Do not order from here
I ordered 7 chicks and they all arrived dead. Company offered a replacement or refund. They only refund the chicks and charge you the shipping fees.

Non-existent customer service
Ordered 12 ducks. One of them was clearly sick upon delivery and died within 24hrs. I sent an email showing the deceased bird but did not receive any response. Their phone number doesn't allow for leaving messages either. Most alarming, the animal had characteristic symptoms of hepatitis, (not eating/lethargy/ perpetually half-closed eyes/major problems with ataxia). Within 48 hours of that bird dying the disease had incubated and I lost another duckling with the same symptoms (including opisthotonos). I again reached out now with a deeper concern as I might lose the flock to the disease. Again, No response. I've been trying to keep the birds isolated and in as clean an environment as possible to prevent disease spread. I'm not upset that there was a sick bird in my delivery (not everything can be controlled) but I am very frustrated that there has been ZERO customer support or communication from California hatchery. After the fact I looked into their BBB rating and I should have done more research into the type of company I purchased from.

Dear Revdex.com, regarding the breed sexing complaint received for ID: Our official response is as follows: We received notice from the customer that an error was made in sexing two of the chicks in the customer’s orderIn order to address the error, we immediately issued a refund of $to the customer as soon as the sexing error was reportedThe customer received a full refund for all chicks in the orderThe customer was not refunded for the shipping charges as they had received two female chicks as originally ordered which were sent with the requested sexAdditionally, we did not issue a replacement order as requested by the customer as we cannot safely ship fewer than three chicks, and a sexing error occurred in only two of the chicksWe notified the customer that we could not issue a full replacement order for the two chicks sent with a sexing error, and that we would issue a full refund for the chicks that were sent with sexing errorWe also issued a full refund for the chicks that were sent with the correct sexIt is extremely rare that a sexing error will occur, however, in very rare occasions it is possible to identify the wrong sex for a breedOur policy regarding safe arrival is stated as follows: “Poultry, ducklings, or any other breed of bird offered by californiahatchery.com that does not survive shipment will either be replaced or refunded at our discretion and availability“ Additionally, our damaged item policy states, “ In the event that an item arrives in damaged condition, the decision to offer a replacement item is solely the decision of californiahatchery.com and the decision to offer a refund or replacement item will be determined by californiahatchery.com.” We appreciate the customer’s concern, and in order to provide more clarity regarding our sexing policy, we have added the following policy to our website terms and conditions, “Breed Sexing Policy- We guarantee the sex of all breeds of chicks or ducklings ordered when the sex is specified at checkoutIf a sexing error occurs, we will refund the entire original price paid for each chick that was sent with a sexing errorWe require that all sexing errors must be reported no later than weeks after the hatch date.” Regards, Californiahatchery.com
