Calvin's Irrigation & Handyman Services Reviews (%countItem)

Calvin's Irrigation & Handyman Service LLC sent me a legitimate looking proposal to replace pavers on a back patio space. After a phone conversation with *** he assured me he had a license
and was experienced and could handle the job in a timely and professional manner. He quoted a price then after sending a deposit and beginning the work he keep adding on additional costs.
The job cost increased from a $1200. quote to over $1900.
The job took over 2 months to complete and was not professional looking at all.
Then the City of BOYNTON BEACH, FLA. ISSUED A VIOLATION ON THE PROJECT.
BECAUSE *** DID NOT FILE FOR A WORK PERMIT FROM THE TOWN AND ALSO HE DOESN'T HAVE A STATE OR LOCAL LICENSE. OR WORKMAN'S COMP.
HE TOTALLY DEFRAUDED ME ON HIS ABILITY AND CERTIFICATIONS AND PERMITTING PROCESS.
NOW I'M DEALING WITH ADDITIONAL COST OF $2000.00 TO HIRE A REAL CONTRACTOR TO CORRECT THE PROBLEMS AND ACTUALLY FILE FOR A PERMIT. AND PAY THE ADDITIONAL VIOLATION FEES AND PERMIT FEES.
Product_Or_Service: PATIO PAVER REPLACEMENT
Account_Number: JOB # 111

Desired Outcome

Refund *** SHOULD ABSORB THE ADDITIONAL COST TO FIX HIS JOB AND COMPENSATE ME FOR ADDITIONAL PERMIT AND VIOLATION FEES. WHICH NOW TOTAL $1750.PLUS $1900. TOTAL $3650.00 FOR PERMITTING AND PLUS VIOLATION FEES. VIOLATION FEES HAVE NOT BEEN CALCULATED YET. THE SITUATION IS NOW BEING CORRECTED WITH THE TOWN OF BOYNTON BEACH, WITH A LICENSED CONTRACTOR.

Contact Name and Title: *** owner
Contact Phone: XXXXXXXXXX
Contact Email: ***@cihsllc.com
***, the "estimate" I sent you is what it would cost to get the job done. It included materials and labor, which was quoted for 16 hour, the estimate was sent 04/30/2019. You responded and accepted the estimate on June 8, 2019 via text message. I told you I had an LLC, I never stated to you I was licensed. I admit it was my mistake thinking that was all I needed and that I was unaware of needing to pull a permit to repair a patio. It seems you have failed to mention the events that transpired during the process of the completion of this particular project. For example non-stop daily rain for a week at the very start of the job, me having mrsa and needing to get iv antibiotics. On June 22, 2019, when we finally had a break in weather and my recovery, all the preexisting pavers were removed and stacked neatly out of walkways and where your neighbors ok me to put them. You informed me on June 24, I needed to remove demolition debris and that I damaged a sprinkler head in a flower bed so I repaired it. On the 26th of June 2019 there was a delay with the order for the material and new delivery was for the 27th of June. You also told me that your neighbor, *** was calling the board non stop complaining about b.s as you put it so stay calm and do your work. Which I was Prepping the work surface for the new pavers that were coming in. You also asked me to remove the old pavers from his porch, which you neighbor told me that's where to put them so he couldn't trip on them. Unfortunately I was already heading home and off the job site. At 11: 41am on June 27, 2019, after I picked up some wire for the UF run you asked me to make, your neighbor decided to pay his bike buddy, your neighbors words not mine, $50 to break into pieces and scattered all of the pavers near his part of the patio. Keep in mind at the time all was prepped and ready for process of installing all the new material. I had to spend 9 hours to redo everything, it also caused me to be short on base material so I had to get more, also you wanted another quote on adding decorative concrete edgers and stain and seal for the surface I also informed you the the additional time spent on site will be included in the additional estimate. On 28 June I told you all additional costs was to be $450 via text message which you accepted. We have also gotten rained on through out the whole process and the remainder of the job causing obvious delays. On July 3rd,I sent you an updated proposal from $1380.16 to $1900.02. You asked me about the increase and I informed you that it's $500 for all requested material add-ons and $400 for the additional labor caused by neighbor and to stain and seal you accepted and agreed to pay $600 upon receiving pictures of everything in place until we were ready to put the stain and sealer which couldn't go on for 30 days after install. I received payment on July 7th, 2019. On the 8th you asked if we are done for now, which I replied yes for a couple of days and that out of my pocket I would purchase an etcher to speed up the process needed for proper staining and sealing for 30 days to 2 weeks.on July 20 I went to finish everything up but rain delayed me. It rained daily, I was able to finish the staining and placement of the borders on july30th. By 0740 on the 31st of July you paid me the remaining balance of $600. After extreme rain I needed to fix a couple of washout spots. My mother passed and I had a baby so I was unable to promptly address the issue so I sent and employee who repaired and sent pics which's you expressed satisfaction to. I sent multiple pictures of the completed work which you accepted and paid final payment on. Oct 25 you informed me of a violation received for not getting a permit which I agreed to try and help to get one and pay for including fees. It's unfortunate that I was not able to get one in a timely manner. Violation was only on the permit and what seems to be damage to existing patio on neighbors side which I have pictures showing damage before job was started. You decided to get another person to get a permit and redo the whole job which is not necessary. You also demanded I pay you everything back including paying for someone to come and redo the whole job a couple months after the job was done. I told you if you expect me to pay in a lump some you S.O.L. But we can figure something out like a payment plan which you were not wanting to do. I informed you, maybe not in the nicest manner, that only way you will get any reimbursement was through a payment plan because I simply couldn't afford it. So you decide to make this complaint post as if I was absent and not doing anything about this. And that you wouldn't retract the complaint unless I paid you. I'm trying to work with you but your fighting me every step of the way. You sent me pictures saying the job had different color pavers in it, I sent you the same picture from completion of the job a few months back and it was all level and no mismatching pavers. You agreed with me about your neighbor probably messing with things to get his way but said that's not gonna fix the problem you now have. I am always willing to improve and help in anyway but this is ridiculous, I'll take not getting a permit and and pay those fines and fees based off my quote but I will not pay for someone to come redo it all when the inspector stated what needed to be done to pass. All texts and emails between us will be send to the Revdex.com for review. Thank you and I hope we can resolve this in a manner that is fair to all parties. Sincerely, ***

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
His personal problems are NOT MINE.
I paid in full in excess of his quoted price to have this job done CORRECT.
He told me he was experienced and had a State License.
If the job required a Local Permit , that should of been his responsibility. And as a business owner he should KNOW THAT.
Now it's 6 months later and I have incurred additional cost. $2076. $1750. FOR SERVICE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM AND $316. FOR VIOLATION FEES FROM BOYNTON BEACH. I hired another reputable source to get the paperwork and job filed correctly.
If he offered a repayment?
EMAIL me a reimbursement plan to pay me back.
TALK IS CHEAP.
Have *** EMAIL me a repayment schedule.
I sent him a copy of my expense to repair this VIOLATION ISSUE.
I emailed him a copy of invoice from another contractor $1750.00,to correct this problem and he can check with the Town Of Boynton Beach to verify the violation fees, $316.00
TOTAL $2076.00

Problems caused by people you associate with makes it your problem. Life sucks sometimes when I left the job was done it looked good, and you approved and made a final payment. Attached to this response is a picture of the actual violation, which states that the only problem was no permit and damage to existing. YOU decided to have someone else come redo it all that's on you. Honestly every one is entitled to there own opinion with that being said I attached some pictures as well from start to finish of project and a picture you sent me talking about different color pavers. After you sent the picture I said after all your neighbor has done to have his way and cause you problems to include paying someone to smash old pavers and ruin my ready to go areawhose to says he didn't have his buddy mess with it more and you replied even if I agree with you it still doesn't fix the problem. In my opinion it seems to me that you see an opportunity to get it redone with the permit and have me pay for it by using this platform as a way to get me to pay you for your own decision to have it redone.I go above and beyond for my customers but I will not pay for something because I'm threatened with a bad review. Also I have failed to locate the regulation stating it is on the contractor to know to get a permit. Everything I have read states ultimately it is on the homeowner to know if a permit is required or not

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
AS I ASKED *** TO SEND A PAYMENT SCHEDULE THAT HE CAN AFFORD.
THE $2066.00 DOLLARS IS FOR FINES $316.AND GETTING A PERMIT.$1750.00

$1750.00 NOT!! FOR THE REDO OF THE JOB.

THE $1750.00 IS TIME FOR A COMPANY TO JUST ENTER AND PASS THE PERMITTING PROCESS. "NO MANUAL LABOR".
JUST LEG WORK AND FILLING FEES.
NOW A SURVEY IS REQUIRED AND I JUST PAID AN ADDITIONAL $350.00 ( TO PRINCIPAL MERIDIAN SURVEYING)FOR A SURVEY ORDERED BY THE TOWN.

NOW MY COST HAS INCREASED AGAIN TO $2416.00 TO COMPLETE THE JOB/PERMITS THAT *** COULD NOT PROVIDE.
HE MAKES IT SOUND LIKE I HAVE COERCED HIM INTO DOING THE "RIGHT THING".
THERE IS A RIGHT WAY TO DO A JOB AND THE WRONG WAY.
HIS INITIAL ESTIMATE WAS FOR $1200.00 DOLLARS.
BUT I PAID HIM AND ADDITIONAL $700.00.
AS HE KEPT ADDING DIFFERENT MATERIALS AND ADDITIONAL LABOR COST TO THE JOB.
ALSO HIS ESTIMATE OF A WEEK TO COMPLETE THE PROJECT ACTUALLY TOOK 6 WEEKS.
AND STILL THE JOB IS NOT COMPLETE WITHOUT A PERMIT.
SO 6++ MONTHS TO COMPLETE.
BY THE WAY?
HOW CAN A HOMEOWNER BE TOTALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS PROJECT.
THE TOWN OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLA.
WILL NOT ALLOW A HOMEOWNER TO FILE FOR THE PERMIT.
IT MUST BE DONE BY THE CONTRACTOR.
I TRIED AND CALLED AND PLEADED WITH THE TOWN.
NO LUCK.
CALVIN'S PERFORMANCE IS UNPROFESSIONAL.
IT SOUNDS LIKE MR. IS PLEADING IGNORANCE.
I WILL AGREE TO THAT.

Look with what's going on in the world right now I Will not be paying for anything trust me I don't like to have to say that I tried to get a scheduled payment to you but or I could you wanted to post a complaint here so not gonna happen I never said Anything about you pulling a permit but it is up to the homeowner to know if his home needs a permit for a job or not that is not my responsibility you called tell me what you wanted done I told you what it would potentially cost an estimate which is not a final freaking number and I did what you asked that's what I mean by is the homeowners responsibility I've spoken to the town of Boynton Beach
About the responsibility of a contractor and knowing if a permit need to be pulled for a job and they told me it is up to the homeowner to inform the contractor if it is not known that a permit is needed it's very unfortunate that you decided to pick somebody that's going to charge you that much money just to pull a permit and it is very unfortunate about the fees are you now I have to pay I will do what I can On the fees as far as a payment schedule you're not getting *** because I don't even know when I get paid it's based off of when the jobs get completed and all kinds of factors come into play so what's the point of making a schedule that I can't stick with at the moment anyway do you want to be a difficult person and try to tarnish my business by putting a review on here rather than waiting for me to give you some sort of something like we agreed upon Tells me you just want to get money back and try to get me to pay for whatever you have to pay for because of your ignorance on knowing what the *** your place may or may not need this isn't my home it's yours you should have known that I really have worked too hard and have way too many good reviews from all my satisfy customers to give a *** about somebody wanting to try and get free stuff again I never just blow you off when we found out you needed a permit months later I tried to help I tried to get somebody I thought I could rely on getting one for me which did not work I tried I tried to make right what you convinced me was a mistake I made in the end it's your mistake call meWhat do you want insult me however you want like you have before I have far far far more pressing matters then to deal with somebody you can't just leave it alone and have waited to get a payment from them because I was certain ready to send one until you decided to do all this green doesn't always pay off I have done just fine I've had over 100 customers less than five of them we're unhappyI tried to pull the same thing you're doing now
