specifically requested from the house manager to not participate in the morning check-ins. As previously said, we can offer a certain structured environment but a client can choose to not participate. B. Our exercise component is comprised of requiring clients to complete 5 units of self-care per week, such as hiking, yoga etc. Often clients schedule exercise together as a way to fellowship. This requires action on the part of the client to follow through on. C. We accept clients who have primary substance abuse & primary mental illness issues. The specific client was a non-substance abuse client. Clients with substance abuse issues are drug tested randomly twice a week & breathalyzed randomly which is confirmed by the house manager. The client who was allegedly doing heroin was not using & is still sober to this day. D. Evening check-ins are done nightly informally over dinner. If the client skips dinner, they would not be present. Additionally, our intake documents detail our no refund policy which is reviewed & signed by our clients before move-in. Clients are aware that if they leave before completing their 3-month commitment, they will not receive any refund. This policy motivates clients to tackle life’s challenges instead of defaulting to old self-defeating behaviors. It is a testament to our program and policies that our clients experience overwhelming success in sobriety. While we regret this client did not have a positive experience, we believe strongly that our program & policies are the reason that our other clients do.
