Campion at Lafayette Response • Jan 31, 2020

The Campion at Lafayette Management team was notified on August 14th, that the previously scheduled move in date of August 17th, was being delayed to August 31st due to construction delays. As soon as the team was notified of this, an email was sent out to all residents offering them either a hotel room or a gift card for the inconvenience. In addition to the email that went out, the team also started calling all of the residents to inform them of the news and find out which option they were choosing, as they were also having to book hotel rooms for the residents. Attached is the email correspondence that went out, along with the email response from Michelle Stone, Brennan's mother, with the date and time stamp. At no point did the management or leasing team lie to anyone about move in dates or the status of things. We only communicated exactly what we were told by the general contractor and the owners. The management and leasing team had nothing to do with construction of the property, as this was managed by the General Contractor.
On August 29th, the management and leasing team was notified that buildings 3-11 were issued Certificates of Occupancy and would be allowed to move in on August 31st. And additional email was sent out to all residents stating this. On September 11th, we were notified that buildings 13-15 were issued Certificates of Occupancy and would be allowed to move in on September13th. On September 7th, Brennan Stone and his roommates were called to see if they wanted to move into a different 4 bedroom unit, that was immediately available. They declined stating that they wanted the unit they were promised regardless of the fact that they would be waiting an additional week for the unit. On September 13th, the leasing and management team moved residents into buildings 13-15. On September 16th, the team was notified that buildings 16 and 17 could move starting at 3pm on September 17th. At that point, the team began contacting those residents to let them know about move ins. The day of September 17th, the construction crew had pressure washers at the site, cleaning the exterior of the units and streets. Additionally, painters and maids were there doing last minute touch ups in units and the maids did have a bit of re-cleaning to do in a couple of the units. City inspections were delayed and still taking place in the units, when move ins began that afternoon.
Both the ice maker and dishwasher was a warranty issue that was brought to Sears' attention and scheduled with a service technician to remedy the issues, which were in fact resolved. The WIFI and cable came online at the end of September. August and September rent was not charged to the residents of the affected buildings. This particular unit did have some additional issues with cable in the living room and all of those issues were resolved on 1.24.19. This only affected the cable in the living room and not the cable in the actual bedrooms. However, the residents within the apartment were given a $25 credit on each of their accounts for the months of October, November, December and January.
Both the management and leasing staff has had several phone conversations and emails with both the parents and residents themselves. The advertised amenities are as follows, along with the completion dates:
Pool and Lazy River completed and officially open to residents on 9.28.19
Gym and clubhouse opened to residents on 10.31.19
Fire Pits, Outdoor Cooking area and Dog park opened to residents in November 2019
Sand Volleyball opened to residents on 12.12.19.
Shuttle has been running since 8.21.19.
Gated entry is still currently under construction.

Customer Response • Feb 04, 2020

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
First of all many of the maintenance requests that were put in upon move-in in September were not done until I sent in this complaint. Also, the cable did not work in the bedrooms either. My son had multiple phone calls with the cable company to try to get it to work but it never did. The refrigerator and dishwasher was not a problem with the appliance like they are stating. It was because of the rush to move them in and no one hooked up the water to the ice maker and no one hooked up the sewage line to the dishwasher or even mounted the dishwasher. You could pull it straight out of the cabinet. No compensation was given for all the cleaning that had to be done by the parents because drawers and cabinets were full of sheetrock and dirt along with floors, etc... The maintenance request for chalking around the tub and toilet was sent to us as complete but it still isn't even done. Apartment sprinkler system still doesn't have trim work around it in the ceiling. You can see into the ceiling and back porch is still missing cover over pipes in the wall. You can see the pipes and straight down the wall. Sheetrock behind downstairs extra bathroom is a mess behing the toilet where the plumbing is so the plastic piece won't even stay on the wall. Nails are popping out in the sheetrock in the ceiling and walls all due to such a poor rush job on the apartment. It is nothing like the place we were given the tour of and what we agreed to upon the showing of the sample apartment when contract was signed. Also, the contract states they will have tanning beds to be used by the guests and they are now stating that will not be happening due to safety reasons. It seems to be okay for them to break the contract but they have wording for everything in it where we have no ability to do anything but pay them and not get what we were promised. And a $25 a month credit for the inconvenience of no cable is not like they are doing us any favors. It just shows how slow they are on taking care of anything that needs to be handled at this complex.
