I have reviewed the response offer made by the business in reference to complaint ID ***, and have determined that this proposed action, which would resolve my complaint, would not do so in a fair and just manner to Campus Auto. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.I greatly appreciate Campus Auto's generous offer to refund me the entire amount of $ However, I do not believe this is fair and I can not accept their generous offer If I did, I would be taking advantage of this situation and that goes against my ethics and principals I only request they refund the difference of $-- as noted in my original complaint Campus Auto did the work and the car is operating in good condition Therefore, Campus Auto deserves to be paid for parts and labor

As stated before the vehicle did not have a decal posted on the window or anywhere about the vehicle.  The vehicle was legally removed according to the rules provided by property management.  The towing charges are established by the Virginia State Code and we charge according to those codes.  We will not be providing a refund of the towing charges.Please let me know you have received my response.Sincerely,[redacted]Campus Automotive, Inc.General Manager

I have reviewed the response offer made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
My son is a resident. There was clearly a sticky area where his decal was. He was unaware that the sticker was even gone. $160 to tow a car directly across the street is ridiculous and if I was treated with any respect at all when I called I would not have been near as upset as I was. This company is trolling parking lots looking for these situations. We proved that my son lived there, the apartment complex even called and spoke with them.  The least they could do was work with us.   This is a community of kids who do not have any money at all. They are working to pay tuition and apartment bills and now ridiculous towing bills.  Thanks for the respect for the community that keeps you in business....I will be sure to spread the word about how unfairly you treat students.

I am writing this letter as my response to the Revdex.com complaint #[redacted] submitted by [redacted].  Ms. [redacted] did in fact have a valid parking pass that was not displayed where our wrecker operator could see it.  In fact on the rearview mirror there was a visitor...

pass that had expired and Ms. [redacted] knew that it was her responsibility to properly display the parking pass for view.  Our wrecker operator did not see any valid visitor pass during the night hours when the vehicle was towed.  The next morning Ms. [redacted] arrived at our tow office and was taken out to the impound lot to view her vehicle by our on duty dispatcher and the pass was located in the fold of the driver seat face down.  I have attached photographs of the way the pass was found inside the car.  At night time it would have been very difficult for our driver to locate this pass and even if he had the pass was lying face down and could not have been read by our driver.  Again, it is Ms. [redacted]’s responsibility to properly display the visitor pass in her vehicle.  As for the damage to the vehicle, there were two scratches found behind the right rear wheel well area on the back bumper.  Our drivers are responsible for taking photographs of any noticeable damage when the vehicle gets towed.  At times it is difficult to see damage especially at night time and in this instance our driver did not notice the scratches until he arrived back in our well-lit impound area and at that time he took a photo of the scratches.  When I checked the time differences on the photos I advised Ms. [redacted] that we would take care of the damage at no expense to her as I could not show that we for sure did not do the damage.  Ms. [redacted] made an appointment with our collision center and we repaired the damage and no expense to her.  Ms. [redacted] made reference to it being apparent that our equipment or trucks had done this damage.  It is very apparent when a 12,000 pound truck hits a vehicle and in this instance I do not feel that we damaged the vehicle but in the interest of superior and professional customer service, we fixed her vehicle at no cost to her.  Most people do not like to be held accountable for their actions or mistakes in life.  Ms. [redacted] made a mistake when she failed to properly display her visitor pass on the rear view mirror of her vehicle and she was held accountable.  Ms. [redacted] could not look at this situation objectively or with reason.  Ms. [redacted] also made another mistake by taking a personal attack on my character without properly following up on my background.  I look forward to small claims court with Ms. [redacted] if that is the decision she makes as I will bill her for every single documented minute that myself and our staff have had to work to resolve this issue to and including court time for our staff having to be there. There will be no refund given and certainly no apology for holding Ms. [redacted] accountable for her lack of action.  Again, I have attached photos as to how we found the visitor passes in Ms. [redacted]’s vehicle.Thank you,[redacted]Campus AutomotiveGeneral Manager

This letter will serve as my response to the Revdex.com complaint filed by [redacted].  After receiving and reading the complaint it was realized that [redacted] misread or misunderstood the Town of [redacted] Towing Codes.  It is true that as a towing company we must...

advise the police department of the tow before towing a vehicle IF that vehicle is located on a public right of way or publicly owned property.  The vehicle related to this complaint was towed from private property, [redacted].  When towing from private property the codes read differently.  As a tow company we have 30 minutes from the time of the tow to report the vehicle information to the [redacted] Police Department when the tow takes place on private property.  Please see section 12-424 of the Town Code.  The [redacted] Police Department requests that we send this information to them on a Town form by way of fax.  This is the protocol that we follow on a routine basis.The employees of Campus Automotive have followed the Town of [redacted] guidelines as well as our own Company guidelines.  The vehicle in question was towed from private property for not having a required resident decal.  The tow was a legal tow and Campus Automotive has complied with all towing guidelines.  It is clear that no accountability on the part of the complainant or the person parking the vehicle on august 29, 2015 wants to be accepted.  The real complaint seems to be that the complainant is upset the vehicle was towed and not concerned about their own lack of responsibility as to why the vehicle was towed.  It is for this reason that I have chosen to refund the owner the cost for the tow in good faith that Campus Automotive is a superior customer oriented Company, always accepting our responsibility in the services we provide. In order to issue a refund check we will need the information on the person who claimed the vehicle from our company and an address to mail the check to. Sincerely,[redacted]Campus AutomotiveGeneral Manager

I have reviewed the response offer made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
I am never going to accept the response but I realize that they do not care about the students or the complex that contracts with them and I will spread my story and will definitely advise people to never use or support  Campus Automotive.

My daughter a sophomore went there because a headlight was burnt out. I applaud her for doing this without getting me involved. Would have been great until she picked Campus Automotive. They quoted her $44.85 and when it was all done they took her for $218.21. The oil change was reasonable. They charged her $73.98 for two Wagner BP1255/H7. Please look that part up. $3.14ea at RockAuto. The highest price I could find to pay is about $8.00. Then they charged her $82.29 to install them. I have done this job before and even if I shift the battery I can do in 20 minutes. And then they tried to sell her a timing belt and water pump change, fuel injection service and a brake fluid exchange. They completely tried to take advantage of a college girl. A reputable place would have asked to speak to her parents first. They should be ashamed of themselves. We called them and emailed them and they thought since the bulbs were under warranty that this was a good deal. I would be happy to share the invoice for any disbelievers.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution would be satisfactory to me.  The business has performed this action and I have deposited their check.  Being that I do not want a full refund, I will write them a check for $294.00 to cover the repair costs.  I will consider this complaint resolved.

My car was illegally towed by Campus Automotive on Feb 28th@ 9:40pm from Shanandoah TH, Blacksburg, VA without any police report in advance.

Per towing policy, towing companies will need to contact the police department prior to towing .Tow truck services must report each and every tow to the police department prior to towing, which Campus Automotive never did, per my call with police department.

I spoke with Jessica , Manager on March 3rd and told her that it is illegal. She said , they usually fax the towing info to police dept 30 minutes AFTER towing! Notifying the Police department after is illegal; she stated that there is nothing she can do.

Campus Automotive would not refund the $160 towing charges for the towing charges which is not obviously followed by Campus Automotive

Students are working hard to pay their tuition and apartment/Util bills and now seeing this ridiculous towing bill. Thanks for the respect for the community that keeps you in business.

Desired Settlement: To have my $160 charges refunded as what Campus Automotive is doing is illegal.

Response awaited. Thanks.

Review: This complaint is against CAMPUS AUTOMOTIVE, INC. [redacted], VA 24060, for unethical practices, pushing unnecessary services and [redacted] gouging.

Summary: The merchant grossly overcharged for the purchase, removal and replacement of a starter motor for my car (their charge was $611.34). They also attempted to “sell” several other services which were not needed for the vehicle, and charged for cleaning battery terminals which I had personally cleaned less than one month before. Noted below are quotes from other providers in the [redacted] area that range from $195 to $498. Additionally, the merchant (who was the towing service) towed the vehicle to their garage in direct contradiction to what was requested, being “[redacted] VA.” As you will see below, [redacted]’s estimate is $294 total, so I am requesting a refund of $317. 34, which represents the difference from what they charged and what [redacted]'s would have charged. In sum, CAMPUS’ actions demonstrate unethical practices, sales fraud and [redacted] gouging. End summary.

Specifics: On 27 September my son, who is a student at [redacted] and one with limited knowledge of automobiles, contacted AAA as his car would not start. When the towing service arrived it was determined the vehicle had a problem with the starter. My son asked that the vehicle be towed to “[redacted] VA.” At some point during the interaction between my son and the tow truck driver, the towing destination was “switched” to CAMPUS AUTOMOTIVE, INC. I thereafter spoke with [redacted] about this, and discovered (not surprisingly) that the [redacted] contracted towing company was none other than CAMPUS AUTOMOTIVE, INC.

CAMPUS’ repair bill was $611.34, as follows: LABOR: $210.38 + PARTS: $336.99 + SHOP SUPPLY: $43.79 + TAX $20.18 = $611.34. In addition, they charged for cleaning the battery terminals, which I had done one month prior and thus was not needed. They also claimed, among other things, that the transmission fluid needed to be replaced. This was done, however, by the dealer within the past 7000 miles, and transmission fluid has a life span of at least 60,000.

When my son advised me of the repair costs I was shocked. I am a former mechanic (4 years prior to serving in the armed forces, and an additional 4 years in the USAF). I am current on auto repairs and [redacted]s, and therefore knew this was an outrageous repair [redacted] for a starter with R&R.

I first contacted my mechanic ([redacted] VA 20175) for his opinion. He agreed that CAMPUS grossly overcharged, and he provided his estimate as $423.19 (LABOR: $133.50 + PARTS: $255.08, + SHOP CHARGE: $19.31 + TAX: $15.30). He noted that the most expensive [redacted] for a starter is from the dealer, being $250. I then contacted CAMPUS to complain. They responded that their prices are “not negotiable” and that they can “charge whatever they want.” I pointed out their actions are unethical, clearly demonstrate taking advantage of a college student, and show they attempted to sell other unnecessary services and parts.

I then requested estimates from several local [redacted] garages for this repair and received the following:

- [redacted]: $498 (Parts, labor and tax);

- [redacted]., [redacted]: $414 (Parts, labor and tax);

- [redacted]: $377.50 (Parts, labor and tax);

- [redacted]: $330 (Parts, labor and tax);

- [redacted]: $294 (Parts, labor and tax);

- [redacted]: $195 (Parts, labor and tax).Desired Settlement: CAMPUS needs to adjust my bill so that I receive a refund of $317. 34. If this is done, their charge would then represent a reasonable, honest profit vice their price gouging. They need to cease in their unethical attempts to sell unnecessary items and services, and should be reprimanded for towing a vehicle to their service center when another location was specifically requested. They need to admit to and apologize for their deceptive ways and unethical practices. Lastly, they must be monitored so that other students are not taken advantage of in this way in the future..

Response:

I am writing this letter in response to the complaint you received about our business

from Mr. [redacted] with ID number [redacted]. It is clear that Mr. [redacted]'s complaint is

only about our price and that he feels we are trying to sell customer's services they do

not need. At Campus Automotive it is our feeling and desire to offer a greater value for

customers in regards to repair work. We do not only want to fix the item the vehicle

was brought in for but also educate our customers on the services needed to help

ensure that their vehicle will continue to be reliable and ready for use. We explain this

process thoroughly to our customers so that they understand that we are here to

educate them on the issues with their vehicle, good and bad, and it is ultimately their

decision to decide what services they would like performed. Each service we

recommend is based on our more than 30 years of experience in the repair business. It

appears as though Mr. [redacted] did not understand that the items we recommended for

his vehicle were not in an effort to be unethical but to allow him to make a better

educated decision on what services he needed done in order to make the vehicle

reliable. The decision is his whether or not to have the services done much like

anywhere else one might go for any type of service work.

I will now address Mr. [redacted]'s issue with our pricing. At Campus Automotive our

pricing is based on the values that we believe are necessary to offer superior service

that no one else in our area can offer. First, we offer a 3 year/36,000 mile parts and

labor nationwide warranty on all non-maintenance items such as brakes, tires, and oil

filters for a few examples. This warranty is not offered by any other service shop in our

area including the franchised dealerships! Also, we have professionally trained

technicians that are continuously trained at the company's expense in order to better

service our customers. All of our employees are background checked, including driving

records, and participate in random quarterly drug testing to insure our employees are

top notch and we can offer superior service. Next, we are in a building that is

comfortable for our customers offering free wi-fi, coffee, sodas, water, TV, and

immaculate customer restrooms, all at company expense to offer a greater value for

our customer. We also offer free courtesy rides at our expense to our customers in

order to get them to class, work, or back home, we even make arrangements with our

customers to get them picked back up when their vehicle is completed. Parts prices

from local parts houses such as [redacted] are "do it yourself"

prices. These parts prices do not take into consideration the cost of doing business

such as building costs, employee costs, or warranty costs on labor to mention a few.

Our labor costs are set to ensure that our employees at Campus Automotive are

productive members of our community. Also, these labor prices are set to insure our

ability to offer our customers all of the aforementioned values in doing business with

Campus Automotive. The other shops mentioned in this complaint to not offer the

same value of service we do at Campus Automotive.

We understand that our business here at Campus Automotive is not for everyone,

sometimes people need a less expensive option and that is why we have many choices

in the service industry. It is clear that Mr. [redacted] has based his complaint on our

pricing structure. I sincerely hope that this response will clear this matter up for him.

Since Mr. [redacted] was clearly not looking for value in his vehicle service and only a

temporary fix to his immediate problem, we are going to refund him the entire amount

of his bill, $611.34. Our only failure in this case was not thoroughly explaining our

service process and that is why I am refunding Mr. [redacted] his money.

Please let me know if there are any further questions regarding this matter.

Thank you,

Campus Automotive

Per [redacted] towing policy, towing companies will need to contact the police department prior to towing (From [redacted] website: Tow truck services must report each and every tow to the police department prior to towing), which Campus Automotive never did, per my call with police department on Saturday.

I talked with the dispatcher, [redacted] on Saturday expalining the situation; however, she said the manager is out till Monday and there is nothing she can do. Also, if I don't pick up the car they will charge me $40 a day!

I called and talked to [redacted] (Manager) on Monday, explaining to her that what they are doing is illegal; She said , they usually fax the towing info. to police 30 minutes after towing! Notifying the PD after is illegal; however, I called the PD once more on Monday, talking with [redacted], she confirmed once more no record of my car being towed!

[redacted] still would not refund the $160 towing charges (max allowed in [redacted]) after all the facts presented.

Review: AGGRESSIVE, INTIMIDATING , BULLYING BEHAVIORS WHICH WERE PHYSICALLY THREATENING AND VERBALLY ABUSIVE BY CAMPUS AUTOMOTIVE EMPLOYEES.My car was parked and towed by CAMPUS AUTOMOTIVE ON 10/04/2013 IN BLACKSBURG VAI went to pay and pick up my car after several calls to THIS TOWING COMPANY (another towing company's employee had to help to get in touch with CAMPUS)on 10/05/2013 I"ve noticed several big dents and paint stain marks on my car. When I asked about the damages, they provided alleged "before towing" pictures for two of the damages and there was no picture for the third damage. Mr. [redacted], the office worker , then took pictures of the 3rd damage on his phone. After consulting with his manager via phone, Mr. [redacted] gave me an ultimatum: leave my car on their lot in Blacksburg for the manager TO TAKE A LOOK ON MONDAY or leave all together I decided to leave the car on their lot as requested .At 2245, I've received a phone call from Mr. [redacted]:" you need to come back to the office now because I have the owner here and he's better than the manager. He can make the decision tonight! And he's only here another 30 minutes". I requested this meeting for the next morning because it was late at night, Mr. [redacted] insisted that I come back immediately .I was innocently accepted the meeting because I didn't think I was being set-up by theses employees. When I got there, one of the drivers, unprovoked, was charging towards me with his arms swinging on my face, screaming, and using extremely vulgar language at me while several male employees were watching.Their tow trucks were all lined up with headlights on beaming on me I was afraid for my life and my daughter so I called 911.The police came but didn't think it was necessary for me to file a complaint because I was on private property. The police were very unsupportive and unhelpful. I was humiliated and terrified by these threatening offensive behaviors I don't think that's how one conducts business with good customer service. I don't believe this person was the owner of this company. I also don't believe this would have occurred if I was a large, white male.Desired Settlement: This company's business practices should be examined and revoked due to their tactics to intimidate and bullying customers.I was humiliated and terrified by their offensive behaviorsThese individuals are criminals and should be tried because they were physically and verbally threaten to female customers.

Business

Response:

Dear [redacted],The Complainants’ daughter had her car towed from private property because she did not have a decal. The Complainant was angered because of this and accused of damaging her daughters’ Pontiac Torrent. WE DID NOT DAMAGE HER VEHICLE. The Complainant was very disruptive and after paying her tow bill spent the better part of an hour pestering my dispatcher. In fact she was irate and stated, “You will fix my car”. My Dispatcher [redacted] was very attentive to her concerns and was very polite. I investigated the concern and determined that we were not at fault. She was lying the whole time. I don’t know what she thought she was going to do or who she thought she was dealing with but I WILL NOT tolerate someone in my building behaving in the manner she did. I decided that I wasn’t going to allow her to disrupt one of my managers on their day off over a FLAT LIE so I had my dispatcher at the time call her and have her come up to the shop. I met her and introduced myself as the owner and she stated the she wanted to see the pictures again. I told her that she had seen enough and told her to get her car and her daughters’ car off of my parking lot. I am not going to stand around and listen to her try to negotiate her way out of a tow bill. I told her to leave. She would not leave. I was angry. One of my drivers called the Blacksburg Police Department and she was asked by two officers to leave. She told the officers that she was “Ashamed of being in America” and tried to say that I threatened her. Again she refused to leave. I DID NOT THREATEN HER. That’s a lie too. I will not be held hostage because of a $150.00 tow bill. They knew they were wrong and were trying to pull something over on us and it is unacceptable. Nobody set her up. She needed to leave my property immediately. I’m not going to let the sit on my lot so they could say more damage was done once it was left there. The Complainant stated that she didn’t think I was the owner of the company. Well I am, and I handled the situation. If The Complainant comes back on to my property again I will have her charged with trespassing. She thought she was going to come in and bully us into repairing damage to her car that we didn’t cause. NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. She is angry because her daughter got her car towed for not having a decal. It cost $150.00. It’s not everybody else’s fault. She must take personal responsibility for her and her daughters’ actions and not try to deflect and cheat a hard working small business owner. I stand up and run an honest and ethical business. I would not be where I am today if we didn’t have an honest and ethical business. My family has been in business for over 35 years. I DISPISE DISHONESTY! I am going to stand up for my employees and stand up for what is right and good in this world. I don’t have time for people like The Complainant. People will do whatever they can do to get out of a tow bill even though they know they were wrong and that’s not right. They will not be getting a refund. Please call me on my cell phone if you have any question. Thanks, Matt McMurray Campus Automotive Inc.

I have reviewed the response offer made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.It was suggested that I needed to request for a refund in order for my complaints to be posted on Revdex.com site. I'm glad my horrible experience with Campus Automotive was posted by Revdex.com.Regards,[redacted]

Review: My son attends [redacted] and lives in an off campus apartment complex. His car was towed out of his apartment complex last night by Campus Automotive. My son is a resident of this complex and with his residency he gets free parking. They give him a decal to put on his car. When he went to pick up the car, the decal was gone. There is a sticky square on the window where the sticker was but it either fell off or was scraped off. Since he doesnt drive his car daily, that is not something he noticed. I called Campus Automotive and explained that he is a resident there and we would send a copy of his lease over to prove that he lived there. The woman who answered basically told me they didnt care and they were charging him $160 for the tow and would charge a storage fee if we didnt pick it up. We had the property management company who manages his complex call and verify that he lived there and again they dont care. I called the [redacted] Police who recommended that we contact the Revdex.com since it is a private business who contracts with another private business (the property management company) There is nothing in his lease about parking or towing. There are signs in the complex that say Residents Only. He is a resident, he proved that he was a resident - but they didnt care. They were rude to myself and my son. When I went on the [redacted] parents page and searched 'towing' there were TONS of complaints from parents saying their child's car was towed out of their apartment lot. This towing company is preying on college students. They dont have the money to pay towing charges but they need their cars. I'm sure this company makes a ton of money driving thru these off campus lots looking for cars. I could see if he was parked illegally - but we proved he was a resident. We have no idea what happened to his sticker.Desired Settlement: I would like them to refund my sons money. I would have at least expected them to offer to drop the price in half once he proved he lived there but they basically told him to pay or he wasnt getting his car and they would begin to charge him a storage fee. The towing company is right across the street from his apartment. It certainly didnt cost them $160 and how are we to prove that they arent over there scraping stickers off. The fact that so many parents have told me the same thing has happened to their kids in various complexes in the area really bothers me that they are preying on these kids.

This will serve as my response to Revdex.com Case# [redacted].While I understand that this gentleman is a resident of the complex that we towed hisvehicle from, there are also parking guidelines that his property management wouldhave made him aware. One of those guidelines is that residents must display theirparking decal on their vehicle so it is visible for anyone needing to verify that it is aresident vehicle. The resident in this instant stated that he has no idea whathappened to his decal and as you can imagine we hear that on a regular basis. Hismother implied that we may have even scraped his sticker off ourselves. This wouldactually be committing a fraudulent act and we could be held criminally responsible forsuch an act. Normally I would not respond to such an uneducated, lack of self accountab¡lity statement, but in this instance I will. We are governed by multiple localand state laws that dictate how we are able to remove vehicles from private propertyor face criminal prosecution. In our case, as a Company, we have removed more than12,000 vehicles from private property over the past 5 years. In all of these instances,at no time have we ever had to go to court. We hold our personnel to a very highstandard and expect all of our tows to be done properly. That being said, we do notset the tow parameters for each properly, property management sets the towingpolicies and we abide by those polices on their individual properties. Our generalpresence in these apartment complexes makes them safer at night to be in and ingeneral helps to deter many criminal or mischievous acts that could occur. As acompany we perform private property towing at an extremely high standard and treatall of our customers with respect. In doing so, we make our community a better placeto live in because private property towing is necessary in a college community. Wereceive many calls from students needed vehicles towed from their parking spaces sothat they have a place to park that they pay for in their lease. Imagine if this was notpossible or students were allowed to park wherever they would like whenever theywould like. Many of the complaints we receive in regards to our removing vehiclesfrom private property is simply because people do not like being held accountable. Wehold people accountable as to how they park on each property that we provide aservice to,78 properties in all. In this particular instance the vehicle did not have adecal as required by the property management, so it was removed from the property.As it were brought up in the complaint about our company possibly removing the decalourselves, on the same token the decal could have been removed by the student to leta non-resident borrow so that they could be on the property, but that would obviouslynever happen.The vehicle did not have the required decal for this property that it was removed from.It is irrelevant that he is a resident as he knew the decal was required. Our companyfollowed all regulations in the removal of this vehicle and we will not be refunding thetow bill of $160, which is also governed by the State.Sincerely,[redacted]Campus Automotive, Inc.General Manager

Response:

As stated before the vehicle did not have a decal posted on the window or anywhere about the vehicle. The vehicle was legally removed according to the rules provided by property management. The towing charges are established by the Virginia State Code and we charge according to those codes. We will not be providing a refund of the towing charges.Please let me know you have received my response.Sincerely,[redacted]Campus Automotive, Inc.General Manager

I am never going to accept the response but I realize that they do not care about the students or the complex that contracts with them and I will spread my story and will definitely advise people to never use or support Campus Automotive.
