Canadian Home Flooring Reviews (2)

Just finished a laminate installation with Canadian Home Flooring An excellent experience from start to finish I came into the store several times picking up samples dropping them off until I had found my flooringThere was zero pressure from the sales staff, Nader was informed, helpful and gave me lots of options to considerJason, who did the installation was on time, quick and had very easy going personality I would not hesitate to recommend Canadian Home Flooring to my friends and family

Write down any quotes you get from Canadian Home Flooring or the price will likely go up when you want to buy. In my case, Nader, the owner, quoted $9.95 / sq.ft. for flooring but 2 days later the price had increased to $11.95 sq.ft. My experience is that these fellows NEVER "forget" what they quote. I should have walked away at that red flag because things got worse.

A huge banner on his store and written on all quotes "We will beat any price on same product" but he refused to honour his promise. I had a quote from another retailer for $9.49 sq. ft. but Nader would not meet it.

Nader did not give me important information I needed about how the flooring and how it should be laid and he would not answer my questions. For example: when I opened the first box of wood, I saw it had blue streaks and small holes. He did not tell me that the pure white floors I wanted, (or the sample he showed me) could have blue streaks and that he was required to order an extra 5% to
cover the marked wood. Nor did he tell me that his installer was supposed to lay out the flooring (and I was to accept it), before any of it was installed. When I asked him about the blue streaks and little holes, he did not respond.

Nader's quotes say there might be an extra cost for levelling and grinding but he does not state how much this charge might be.. Once my old floors were removed, from my small apartment, he said I needed 8 - 10 bags of material at $115.00 per bag and 6 - 8 hours of grinding @ $85 / hour.

I was shocked. I had previously had wood floors for 16 years, with no problems, and Nader did not mention any problems when he came to measure. I told him his price seemed too high. He told me I could check out his price and that he was competitive but he did not give me a chance to do that and immediately started threatening to put a lien on my property and sue me for breach of contract saying I had signed that I had agreed to his price. I reminded him I had paid by visa, over the phone. He said that by giving him my visa I was agreeing to his contract (that I had never seen). He also told me I had "been in his face" since he met me.

He had me over a barrel. He was unwilling to negotiate. My place was torn apart but if I refused to pay him he said he would walk, out put a lien on my property and sue me. Not knowing what else to do, I said to lay as little material as possible.

Later when I was able to get to my computer I checked out other companies. I now have 8 quotes from other Vancouver companies. None of the quotes are any where near as high as Canadian Home Flooring's. The range quoted to me was $40 - $60 per bag for the material and $40 for grinding. Four of the companies mentioned that grinding was usually minimal and one company stated that grinding was usually so minimal that there was no charge. When I gave this information to Nader he told me I was getting "uniformed or bad council".

When I asked the installer if there was enough wood to finish my apartment he said he didn't think so. He said Nader had told him I had measured. (not true). I emailled Nader asking him if he had really said this. He did not answer that question, instead he said that I had refused to order extra (also not true). I even have it in an email, when I questioned if there was enough (when he first ordered). He replied he had ordered tight. I responded, (thankfully), in writing that it was better to have too much than too little. So not only had he not ordered enough to cover my floors, he had not ordered any extra to cover for marked wood.

However, he was happy to tell me he had some returned wood he could sell me. I asked him if it had blue streaks. He responded that he would answer my question AFTER I had paid him for the floors.

Hoping to convince Nader that he will ruin his reputation if he continues to treat his customers the way he has treated to me, I told him I had posted my experience on the internet. He called me a bully. But several people have contacted me saying they too have had problems.
