Review: This business was re-opened under new ownership in the summer of 2015. We became aware of the business through signage advertising that they were now renting weekly. We informed them we would be looking fora long-term room, and inquired/requested a monthly rate in which we we were told there was none. We were offered a "suite" @ $350 per week with a T.O.T (transient tax), 12% of $350 which made the weekly total $392. After the 1st month of continuous renting (which makes us no longer transient), we requested the tax not be charged, (once a week), we were denied and we were required to "check-out and check-in" each time. Each time once a week we would pay the over charge in order to remain tenant, and cthis has continued into the new year of 2016. A "managent team" (in place now) has also refused to stop charging the transient tax. The "hotel" has wrongly evicted tenants by threatening to call police, those who did not pay, were locked out wrongfully which is an illegal eviction, without due process. After many conversations before and after the "management team" to no resolve, we and other tenants are taking it on our own to seek legal representation, Against this and other illegal actions which will remain confidental between our legal reps.Desired Settlement: We would like this business to follow the Sacramento City code 3.28. To also credit us or give us credit towards rent for all the over charges, to stop harrassing tenants to leave. To no longer require tenants to check out and back in each week, like transient guests, in order to keep charging us a TOT, (civil code section 1940.1). To stop threatening tenants for practicing their legal rights.

Response:
The Canterbury Village Hotel is under new management as of January 1st, 2016. As of this time, all guests have been informed of the new management, given an explanation of expected changes and adjustments in the property, and information on how to contact management in the event of any questions or concerns. From this time, there have been absolutely no guests that have been 'threatened' with any illegal eviction or police action; the only conversations that have occurred to this effect have been in regards to criminal (drug and/or violent) activity engaged in by certain guests, wherefore we explained that this behavior was not accepted or condoned at our property, and that the police would be called if necessary to ensure the safety and security of our staff and other guests. At no time has any guest been "checked out and checked back in" in any attempts to circumvent the law - any guest that has extended their stay with us has only had their existing reservation extended, which is easily evidenced by the lack of any guest having to actually vacate their room and/or relocate to another room.
