September 19, 2014 BBB 720 Moorefield Park Drive – Ste 300 Richmond, VA 23236 Reference: ID # [redacted] Cape School is responding to [redacted] concerns. [redacted] purchased a pre-licensing 20 Hour SAFE Comprehensive Principles of Mortgage... Lending course which is a pre-licensing requirement for anyone looking to become a Mortgage Originator. [redacted] purchase a package which included this course as well as exam prep tools such as Mortgage Loan Originator TesTaker and UST Exam prep course, all which would prep the student in taking the NMLS exam on June 9, 2013. [redacted] completed the course on June 20, 2014. In July of this year, we received updated for the pre-licensing course which at that time we removed access to the course to students who purchased and completed the course. [redacted] recently contacted us and we explained the reason for blocking the completed course material and explained our extension policy. We agreed to open the course and exam prep for a month period of time at no cost and if he needed more time to call us we will continue to keep the material open for his review. Our policy states: Pre-License - All Cape School pre-license courses are good for one year from the date of purchase. Additional extensions may be purchased for students needing more time to complete their course. The materials are constantly being reviewed and updated according to state licensing content outlines which requires us to put the one-year time limit for completion. Our priority is to ensure that our students have the most current and up-to-date information to pass the licensing examination. Cape stresses that it is not our intension to make more money but we look at providing the most updated information so our students are successful in obtaining their license. In many cases we have worked with students in achieving their goal such as we did with [redacted] . Reviewing [redacted] concerns, Cape will keep this course materials open to him for another year. Review: On June 2013, I have purchased an online self study courses package which include [redacted]) pre-license courses to prepare and pass the National exam and Mortgage Professional Package Exam simulator.when I first purchased my online package courses from Cape school website, there was NO time limit DISCLOSED on how long I would have access to the online courses. I received no terms or agreement from Cape School indicating how long the online courses would be available to me. Their responses were and I quote “Cape School feels one year is a fair period of time to complete the 20 hr course or review our material. You purchased the course June 09, 2013. ”And “You have one year to access the course materials. You can purchase an extension for 3 months @ 50.00…it’s our policy.” Then When I asked why they didn’t disclose that policy to the consumers at the time of purchase, Operation manager [redacted] then agreed to grant me access for an additional one month timeframe to access the online courses that I purchased. I did not agree with her decision. I tried to explain to her why I did not access my online package materials regularly; she cut me short and said that she was not interested in hearing what I had to say.

I found the verbiage used within her email correspondence, and the way she handled my transaction very disturbing. Then I asked Why she referred to my online courses package simply as a 20 hour course, She has lead me to believe that this is a blatant attempt to limit my access to these courses in an attempt to charge me more money for the training materials that I already purchased and that I am entitled to. Her deceptive behavior is very shocking and unprofessional.Desired Settlement: Full access to my online courses material that I paid for without timeframe limitation. If they don't agree I demand to receive my full refund.
