***, Complaint Handler Revdex.com Bryant Woods South Amherst, NY Re: ID #*** Dear *** At or about pm on September 9, 2015, *** *** walked into my office, sat down and began telling me (very loudly) about how upset she was that we canceled our after school
program by letting her know the night beforeI reminded her about our signup sheet that was posted with the premise that we needed at least ten children in order to make the program happenWe had eight sign up, which I was ready to make work; however, as we began calling the parents on the list three, two and one day before school to make sure the children were set to start, parents were canceling, telling me that they had just received calls from the school (where they had been waitlisted for their much sought-after after school program), saying that they would not be joining us after allI had confidence that I would still be able to run a smaller program so as not to disappoint anyone, but the final calls made the day before solidified the fact that I would only have one child *** said she did not believe me, so I showed her the sisheet which included the dates and times calls were made to parentsShe waved her hand at it and said she didn’t need to see itBecause I don’t see ***’s boyfriend (I was never notified that they were married, by the way) at pick up time, I had left a message with my closing supervisor to tell him that we were worried that there would not be a program*** was aware of our need to have more children in order to run a successful programLast year we were able to take ***’s daughter and other half day kindergarteners at 11:every morning, but because our school district went to full day kindergarten this year, and because NYS regulations changed effective June 1, (new regulation now states that school-age children are no longer allowed to mix with any other age group), we had to rethink the programWhereas we could always blend in two, three or four children with our pre-k classroom, we now have to have a totally separate classroom for themHaving a separate teacher for so few children is not cost effective, which is why we were aiming for at least ten children to make it work*** immediately became verbally abusive, saying that I was not “equipped” to run the centerShe then told me that she was able to get her daughter into another after school program, luckily, and needed her medical paperworkI told her I was glad that she was able to find another programI also told her that I had no medical records on her daughter, that we do not require school-age families to provide medical paperwork as per NYS regulationsShe then accused me of “losing” the paperwork, saying again that I wasn’t “equipped” to run the centerShe refused to listen to anything I had to say, got up, continued to yell at me and walked out into our “Village” where there were no children, just my supervisor, Miss Victoria and another teacher, Miss ShelbieI followed her in to tell her that her daughter was not in there and closed the door to maintain privacyI also told her that I was disappointed in her reaction because she had always told me how happy she was that we took such good care of her daughter through her many, many challenges while in Kindergarten and at the centerAs I was saying “your daughter”….*** cut me off and repeated that I was not equipped for my jobI opened the door to walk out, and she yelled, “That’s right, Janice, keep walking.” Meanwhile a parent and another teacher, Miss Tanya, were in the lobby and had witnessed *** yelling in my office and now yelling in the hallI told Miss Victoria to walk with her into the other classroom and escort her out of my center when she was done picking up her daughterI contacted my licensor at the NYS Office of Children and Family Services about the incidentThe next day she showed up at my center to tell me that *** had filed a complaintShe took my written statement, privately interviewed and took written statements from four witnesses: Miss Victoria, Miss Shelbie and Miss Tanya and called the parent witnessAfter the interviews she suggested that I consider making a CPS call on *** for her actions***’s daughter has had behavior issues not only in Kindergarten, but throughout the year that we had her as a school-ager. During her tenure here, there were times when she cried whenever we needed to send a note home about her behavior, saying that her mother would use a belt on herOur licensor said that what we witnessed should be taken into consideration when evaluating her daughter’s behavior and claims of abuseThe next day I received a call from our licensor that she submitted a finding to her supervisor of “unsubstantiated”I received the formal paperwork dated 9/17/a few days laterBy the way, ***’s report to you and the state were very different and inconsistent from one anotherRecently I received a phone call from ***’s mother explaining that her granddaughter had left a special toy at the center and that *** said we would have her arrested if she “stepped foot on the premises” to get itI told her that was not true and that we want her to have the special toyShe said she was sorry for ***’s behavior and that she knows how “she can be” but was there any way to get the toyI told her to tell *** that she could come in to pick it upLater that day ***’s boyfriend and daughter stopped by to pick it upThank you for giving me the opportunity to support the policies and regulations of our Center by explaining our part in the events described aboveIf you need anything further, please let me knowSincerely, Janice MB*** Director Kidz Korner Childcare & Learning Center Old Niskayuna Road Latham, NY
