Complaint: [redacted] I am rejecting this response because: As I stated before, we were never offered labor costs from the dealership and I don't appreciate the dealerships dishonesty in this matter The product this dealership sold me should be an embarrassment to the way they do business and treat their customersUnfortunately the truck that Capital City Auto sold me is still not useable The transmission is shot and needs to be replaced The truck is sitting on the side of the road dead Dealing with this dealership and the product they sold us has created many hardships and stress I regret ever doing business with Capital City Auto and wish I never stepped foot on their lot Sincerely, [redacted] ***

I have nothing further I can offer Mr. ***. As stated, we did offer to install the requested parts free of charge. Being how he declined and decided to get the work done somewhere else, I do not have anything else to offer. I sorry for the situation at hand but, the vehicles are used and sold AS IS which we make very clear during the purchase process.

Response:[redacted] came into the dealership with the desire to trade in his Dodge Durango and purchase a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado Z71 Pickup. [redacted] drove the vehicle twice, the second time for over an hour then decided to make the purchase. We gave [redacted] 200% of trade in value in order to make the...

vehicle work in his price budget. [redacted] did contact us stating that the check engine light came on and we advised him to bring the vehicle down so we could take a look. At that time the code was for an 02 sensor bank 1. [redacted] was okay with the code and agreed that the vehicle may need a tune up. We sell all of our vehicles AS-IS and include 3 documents stating very clearly that the customer is responsible for any and all repairs after the purchase. It is never our intention to have an upset customer and we do like to help out as much as we can. For this situation, we offered free labor to install the parts needed so long as [redacted] purchased he parts himself. [redacted] declined the offer and just demanded his money back following negative reviews on social media. Our offer still stands, we will install the parts [redacted] is requesting free of charge as far as labor goes.Sent on: 6/28/2017 2:04:11 PMSent by: 63.227.134.14

I am rejecting this response because:Capital City Auto never offered free labor to install parts needed to get this truck running properly.  They said they could get a discount from other mechanic shops.  We asked in person and over the phone for the owner to call us so we can work this out.  We received no phone call.  This is unfortunate because the offer of labor costs covered would have settled this for us, but since we were never offered this and never were contacted by the dealership concerning this matter, we had the repairs done elsewhere.  I needed a truck to run properly for towing a trailer and after no contact from the dealership, I had to get the work done.   I drove the truck off the lot on June 15th.  On the morning of June 16th, after driving the truck about 20 miles total, the check engine light turned on.  I took the truck to Capital City Auto where their mechanic scanned the error, cleared it and told me it was a bad O2 sensor.  This was not a problem for me since an O2 sensor would be only around $70.  I never agreed that the truck needed a tune up, but I did agree that I was fine with changing out the O2 sensor as their mechanic advised.  I took the truck to Les Schwab to have it checked out.  They said it was not the O2 sensor but it was a catalytic converter that needed to be replaced.  The dealership called me to let me know they had given me the wrong garage door opener and it was this phone call that I told them I need to bring the truck back in.  That the problem wasn’t an O2 sensor but it was the cat converter.  My wife and I talked to Kelly about the problems we were finding with the truck.  He told me “it was running fine when we had it”.  He then told me they could get a discount on work needed on the truck.  I asked him to have the owner call me when he got in so we could resolve this issue.  There was no phone call. On Monday June 19th I picked up a travel trailer in Meridian.  After going 8 to 10 miles the truck overheated and I had to pull over on the side of the interstate.  I let the engine cool down and added more antifreeze.  We did this 4 more times before we got the trailer to a safe place.  I then took the truck to Firestone and had them check out what was going on.  Their OBDII scanner found multiple errors, not just one.  They found:Code 0327 – Encoder Circuit MalfunctionCode 0420 – Catalyst System Low Efficiency Bank 1Code P1258 – Injector Circuit Low to High Current Transition Time BankFirestone then checked the cooling system and found the following:Bad Radiator Hoses – Leaking badlyBad ThermostatCrack in the RadiatorCrack in the windshield wiper fluid reservoirThird Brake Light outI had these replaced costing $1,165.00For someone who had spent $500 over budget to buy the truck, this was not something I was expecting.  I was expecting to put a couple hundred dollars into the truck as it was a used truck, but I was not expecting so many issues that needed to be replaced or fixed.  I had assumed the dealership mechanic would have found these problems and either fixed them, or disclosed them to any prospective buyers. My wife called the dealership on Tuesday June 20 and requested that the owner call us.  Again, no phone call was returned.I still needed to fix the cat converter.  On June 27th I took the truck into Boise Muffler to get the cat converter replaced.  After Boise Muffler had a chance to look at it they found not only had the cat converter been bad but the exhaust manifolds were leaking badly.  Most of the manifold bolts were broken off.  They recommended replacing the passenger side manifold and bolts and resurfacing the driver side manifold.  They could not get the truck to pass the 5 gas test and found the truck was misfiring.  After they took the spark plugs out they found that the truck had the wrong size spark plugs in it.  They also checked the spark plug wires and found they had 3x the Ohms that they should have had.  The wires were relatively new, but they were the wrong wires and they were the cheapest wires they had ever seen.  After the manifolds, cat converter, plugs and wires were replaced or repaired, the cost came to $1,957.10.So, within two weeks of driving this truck off the Capital City Auto lot, I have had to put in $3,122.10 just to get this truck running properly.Responding to a couple things the dealership included in their response:I did test drive the truck twice.  The first time was around the block.  I couldn’t go any farther than that because the fuel gauge was on empty and I didn’t want to run out of gas.  After test driving another truck, the dealership put ¼ tank of gas in the Silverado, so I decided to test drive it again.  I drove it about 15 miles.  I drove it straight to my place of residence, parked it and checked it out for about 10 minutes, then drove it straight back to the dealership.  Again, with only ¼ tank of gas, I didn’t want to drive it too far.  I did not test drive it for over an hour as stated by the dealership. There was never an offer for free labor.  We would have accepted this offer and been done with this problem.  It makes NO sense that I would decline this offer.I bought the truck as is.  I understand that.  I bought the truck with no check engine light on as well.  There is no way all these problems just happened in the few hours and few miles I had the car.  These were existing problems and if the dealership didn’t know about them, they should have.  If they did know about them, they should have disclosed them, discounted the truck cost to help cover some of the costs or fixed them before selling.  As it is, I can only assume they knew about them, as they have their own mechanic, but decided to hide the problems until a piece of paper was signed.
Sincerely,
[redacted]
