Capital City Pool Services Reviews (%countItem)

Besides the fact that there was a miscommunication with the time of appointment, I am thoroughly satisfied with the service. *** we’re friendly, polite, and knowledgeable. They took the time to answer all my questions, including at the end after they had completed the job. The work was done to my complete satisfaction, and my property was left clean. There were no surprises, and *** at the office communicated with me each step of the way. I will definitely contact them for future needs.

I received a quote by telephone for a job and accepted the job based on the quote. I've now received an invoice four times that amount.
I contacted the company of June 6, 2019, to get a quote to finish cleaning the bottom of my pool to make it swim ready. We had a separate company open the pool but since it had been a hard winter and I'm relatively new at owning a house with a pool I opted to get the services of a larger company to clear out the balance of the leaves at the bottom of the pool. We had already taken out 90% of the leaves but were having trouble in getting out the balance therefore I contacted this company for their services. I forwarded 3-images of the pool in order to receive a quote. I was told that someone would come by to look it over and provide me with a quote to do the job. The following week I received a call from an employee of the company providing me with a quote for a one-time service of $150 which I agreed to. On June 14, 2019, two employees came and finished the cleaning of my pool. They did a great job in finishing the work. At the end, one of the employees mentioned that they provided a weekly service and provided the amount I said that was too costly for me. He also told me how much it would be to get a net to cover my pool in the fall and how that works to make it easier for next year to open the pool which I agreed to since it made sense. They left. A few days later my pool pump started struggling and I didn't know what to do. I called the company and they were too busy to send anyone to come back until June 24, 2019. I kept having to stop the pool motor since the pump kept overheating and I was worried it would break down. Finally on June 22, 2019, I decided to open the main skimmer and found a skimmer sock which is what the company told me it was called which was clogging up the skimmer and forcing the pump to overheat. On June 26, 2019, I received an e-mail from the company asking me for my feedback on the services I received. I reiterated that they did a good job for the $150 I was quoted but also mentioned the issue with the skimmer sock and that I wanted to speak with the head person that came to provide the service in this respect. On July 5, 2019, that person telephoned me and said that he assumed that I knew that the skimmer sock was there. I said that he never mentioned it and as a relatively new owner of a house with a pool how could I know about that. The subject of the fees came up and he said the basic swim ready fees are $450 but my pool is quite big and that it would be $600 based on the work and all the products they used. I said that I accepted a $150 quote by telephone and he said that employee has left the company and he was doing all kinds of shady deals. I said that's not my fault and that he needs to honor the deal I accepted. He says that when he was at my house he told me it would be more which is not true. He never mentioned an additional amount to complete the job. He talked about the cost for a net which would be approximately $500 in the fall, the weekly rate if I chose that for them to maintain the pool and the swim ready rate $450 for next fall if I stayed with their company. I even offered to meet him half way and pay $300 because he made me feel bad and threatened bad debt for me. I've never not paid a bill in my life this is really heart-wrenching for me. I've never placed a complaint before for any company and I've been a home owner for over 20-years. I'm completely sickened by this and it's the principle of it all. As a consumer I accepted a verbal quote for a job to be done at my home. At no point did I receive any information that the job was going to be more expensive than the quote that I received/accepted. Also, how is it my problem that the employee that provided the quote is no longer with the organization and therefore they're not honoring that.

Capital City Pool Services Response • Aug 14, 2019

Initial Business Response /(1000, 5, 2019/07/23) */
We quoted live on site after seeing the size of the pool. We told consumer that we accept the payment offered as indicated by the consumer of $300 (Plus HST). The difference would simply be written off in our books as "bad debts". It is a loss that we have incurred and are simply entering into our accounting. Nothing more. We are also very pleased to know that nothing has changed, the consumer was quite pleased when we left the job and that the consumer is still very pleased with the quality of the work.

Initial Consumer Rebuttal /(3000, 7, 2019/07/30) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
There was no onsite quote for service the day they came to work on my pool. I will pay the $300 plus HST but refuse to accept that this charge will be indicated in their books under my name as a Bad Debt when this is not the case. Again this is the principle of it. I entered into a verbal contract with this organization and was provided with an amount for the job by telephone after I sent photos and someone was supposed to come by and inspect the pool whether I was home or not and then I received this call advising me of an amount for a $150 one-time fee. The size of the pool was never in question. I was forthcoming of the size of the pool, they had photos to work with and an in-person opportunity to work with prior to providing me with a quote. Thank you and all the best! ***

Final Business Response /(4000, 9, 2019/08/05) */
Our response remains that we accept your offer to pay $300.00 (Plus HST). To extend the respect you have asked of us, we WILL NOT write off anything as bad debts.

Final Consumer Response /(2000, 11, 2019/08/11) */
(The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.)
I would appreciate if you could send me a copy of the complete file for my records. My e-mail is ***. Thank you for addressing my concerns and acting as an intermediate between me and Capital City Pools. All the best!
