recommended that the dog be hospitalizedUnfortunately *** did not have the money necessary to pursue hospitalization so the dog was discharged with verbal and written instructions to keep him cool, quiet, have him immediately rechecked for labored breathing, and to see his regular veterinarian as soon as possible the next morningThe doctor who treated *** ***'s dog did not think that the dog would die prior to being seen by the regular veterinarian, otherwise she would have informed Ms*** of that possibility.We received an inquiry through our hospital's online contact form from *** *** on 7/13/I am assuming *** is ***'s motherI emailed *** *** on both 7/13/and 7/20/letting her know that we were truly sorry for the loss of Rico and asking her to please provide a phone number and a good time for me to speak with her or for her to call me but I never received a response to either emailIalso called *** *** on 7/20/and *** returned my call on 7/24/When I spoke with *** I reiterated how sorry we were for her loss and let her know that the treating doctor did not think that Rico would die prior to seeing the regular veterinarianWe discussed that hospitalization was recommended but that she did not have the funds available to pay for that, and that it was recommended that the dog be rechecked immediately for labored breathingShe did say that if she had known her dog would die she would have somehow come up with the money and that she lived a half hour's drive from the hospital so it was too far to return toI asked her if there was anything I could do for her at this point and she said no, there was nothing.Our hospital works diligently to provide the highest quality medicine to pets in the Capital RegionThe services we provide do cost money and unfortunately sometimes our clients have to make difficult decisions based on their financial resourcesIcan only imagine how difficult this loss must be for the *** familyOur hospital and staff are truly saddened by their loss and wish them our sincerest sympathy.Regards, Rosemary BHospital Director
