Capital Tire Service Inc. Reviews (1)

Review: In November of 2014, I took my 2005 BMW 325i into Capital Tire Auto (owned by [redacted]). I drove the car to the lot and describe an issue with the car involving a check engine light and error codes related to Exhaust/Intake issues. I met with a gentleman at the counter named [redacted] to whom I described my issue. I agreed to leave the car and [redacted] agreed that he would have it checked out the next couple of days once his technician returned. After a couple of days of waiting, I received a called from [redacted] and he explained to me that they performed a diagnostic and determined that they needed to replace a camshaft and crankshaft sensor and although I disagreed he insisted that this was need to get the car back running ( keep in mind the car was running when I brought it in. After this work the issue which I brought it in for remained so [redacted] called me back and said that he needed to perform another $600 in work by replacing the fuel pump and fuel filter and insisted that they needed to do this because the car was not running. Against my better judgement I agreed to the work but informed them that this had to fix the issue as now I was approaching $1150 in charges, so they did the work and reset the check engine light but [redacted] refused to give me a RECEIPT OR ANY DETAILS OF THE WORK and later that after driving on 40 miles around town the check engine light returned and now the car demonstrated a worse issue. The car would now stall and shut off when reaching speeds above 50 miles per/hour. I called the shop back and [redacted] was rude and determined for me bring the car back in and perform a smoke test when in reality they should have perform the smoke test initially for this type of issue. I asked to speak with the owner ([redacted]). I spoke with [redacted] at [redacted] in [redacted] who owns both shops and he agreed to have the car checked out by his best technician and he wouldn't charge me. So after a few days I took the car to [redacted] and he kept it for a couple of days, after which he said the only thing remaining was a small issue with a value and he would replace it for me at the cost of parts. They claimed that the value would cost $400 from BMW. I told him I didn't have the money but I would bring the car back when I did. [redacted] assured me that the car was safe to drive and this part was only required to clear the check engine light. Well not long after leaving the shop the car performed the same issue which is dangerous and life threatening because I was on the highway going 60 miles per hour and car just cutoff. Fast forward 7 months and I finally had the money to get the car repaired so I took it into a BMW qualified technician who provided me with a report of his repair. He performed a smoke test and determined that I had a huge hole in the intake boot and he informed me that based on the codes he read which I have in his report that the fuel pump and fuel filter and other work was probably not required and it appears that they never made even a decent attempt to resolve the original issue.Desired Settlement: I was like a refund for the $1150 paid to Capital Tire Service as well as $220 that I paid to NYBimmers to get the issue resolved today and $400 compensation for the time that I took away from work during the time was being lied to. This comes to a total of $1770 Cash from Capital Tire Service/[redacted] Tire

Response:

In November 2014, a 2005 BMW 325i was brought into Capital Tire Service for a variety of issues, including that the car was not running properly at the time it was dropped off. Capital Tire Service performed a diagnostic test and informed the customer of the issues with the vehicle. A recommendation was made by the [redacted] to replace the faulty parts with BMW parts. The customer did not want to spend the money on the BMW parts, so he requested that Capital Tire Service use “after market” parts, which are from an auto part store and not BMW brand. The customer was told that the use of “after market” parts is not advisable and BMW vehicles should use their own parts due to vehicle sensitivity, however the customer insisted that Capital Tire Service use the less expensive option. As for the allegation that the [redacted] “refused” to give the customer a receipt, Capital Tire Service maintains that is false and has a copy of the invoice detailing the services. Additionally, the customer claimed that “not long after leaving the shop” the car cutoff while running. How long is “not long?” The car was running well after it was serviced and returned to the customer. Furthermore, the customer did not go to BMW to get the issue “fixed” until seven (7) months later. If the car was truly not running properly and was a safety hazard, how could the customer wait such a long period of time before going to get the car fixed? The issues that the customer claim the BMW technician told him were wrong with the car are not linked to Capital Tire Service, as the lapse in time between the work at Capital Tire Service and BMW is far too great. Unfortunately, Capital Tire Service cannot reimburse the customer for the work done on his vehicle by our company or any subsequent company. Capital Tire Service is a reputable company that handles customers’ vehicles with t he utmost care and prioritizes safety always.
