UNACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOR! LESSON LEARNT.
Due to severe financial restraints following several unfortune events, ( In part to my own actions) I was in a desperate situation and couldn't do without a car. I needed to work. A co worker, who doesnt have a mean or dishonest bone in his body, (in no way is this aimed at him) recommended I go to his friend's auto business. I still rsesearched as many options as I could but I was truly limted. I found a deal I could work with and agreed to purchase that vehicle. Working with [redacted] and [redacted] (finance dept), I was approved for a loan. All the papers where drawn up before and only after I physically asked was I told the loan was at 21% interest! I fully understand that my credit ( which I checked several times prior to this date), was in the low 500s but I owed a house, never filed for brankrupy and was fully employed for greated than a year. I inquired why this rate was so high as my work partner who had filed for bankruptcy and no credit had recently purchesed a vehicle at this dealership, and was offered a 14% interest rate. I fully understand that the dealership does not select the rate but it seemed rediculous. Never the less I stupidly accepted the deal. During the process, I asked REPEATEDLY about the tag and taxes for my new car and was CLEARLY told by both [redacted] and [redacted] that this would handled by them and I would receive my registration and sticker in a few weeks.I DIRECTLY asked if I had to pay any additional fees or had to go to the tag office and was again told, NO.I was asked to put some money down. Which I agreed to pay $500 along with my trade in. That was accepted and [redacted] asked for an additional $300 for my vehicle tags/taxes. I wanted to keep my license plate and they agreed to have it transferred to my new car ( at a fee ofcourse) and my plate was transferred without an issue ( or so I though). I told them it would expire in December of this year but they said I should have my new registration before then and not to worry. However only after receiving the bill of sale did I note that there were already fees assigned to this and I inquired again about it, but was told the $300 was for the taxes on the vehicle? Two weeks after the purchase I received a call from the financial company managing my loan. During the comfirmation phase, they informed me that their records showed I had put down $800 and not $500. I made it very clear that I was informed that the $300 was for the taxes ( per [redacted]) and not part of the down payment. A month past and I still had not received my new tag or even the registration. I contacted the DMV and they informed me the tag was still registered to my old car but it could take up to 60 days to transfer. But my tag was expiring and all I had received from the dealership was the bill of sale. SO I once again called [redacted] and inquired about my tag. It was during this conversation that I was informed that I should of received the registration by now but that I would still have to go and pay the property taxes. I immediately asked how this was possible as I was directly told that ALL fees had been paid prior to leaving the dealership! And the bill of sale showed the fees (excluding the additional $300) added to the total amount of the car. The DMV provided a break down of the fees required and they were a lot less than what I was being charged on the bill of sale and I could not see why an additional $300 was needed when the fees came to below $290. No proper explanation could be provided. I went back and forth with both [redacted] and [redacted] over this but was repeatedly told "there were new laws regarding taxes etc'. None of which the DMV in Cary knew anything about. Finally and not been able to locate my paper work, I was told they would call me back.Later that same day I was recontacted by [redacted] who again told me I still had to pay the taxes, I again informed him that per our contract, I had and that he and [redacted] had told me that they would organize all of this. He finally agreed and ONCE again stated over thephone that it would be handled and would be sent the new tag. By the 28th of December I still had not received any registration or tag info, so I called again. This time only the frontdesk women called me back and stated that my new tag and registration had arrived. I had to drive back to the dealership on the 29th and retrieve the plate. After getting home I opened the package only to discover it was a TEMPORARY tag with a bill from the DMV for property taxes. The temporary tag would expire on the 1/31/16 if fees were not paid. I had enough at this point and sort legally advice. The GM [redacted] was outstanding in trying to resolve the issue and immediately responded to my concerns but it could not be resolved and I have had to pay the taxes in order to use my own car. Facts are Facts. The bill of sale clearly shows fees added to the total cost of the car regarding taxes/tag
