When [redacted] pick up his boat yes the starter was out. We had given hem a new [redacted] straight bolt starter. He had a gentlemen that was working on his motor come in and return the starter because he wanted a staggered bolt starter. We ordered in a new [redacted] staggered bolt starter for him. Part...

Paul L[redacted] my service manger took it out of the box to show him that it was a staggered bolt unit, And it was new not rebuilt. Then the gentleman came back with a rebuilt unit that was beat up with hammer marks. This was not the starter we gave him. We do not use rebuilt starters in our shop. The main reason there is no guarantee on parts and labor. If it was the [redacted] starter we gave him we would have replace it or gave him his money back on the unit. It is not right that he says my service manger gave him that starter. Paul L[redacted] has worked for me for 7 years with no problems with customers and would not lie to me.

Review: I had my boat serviced at this shop in July 2013. The starter was replaced with 5 years guarantee. Right after the starter was installed I had a problem with my engine and I came back to the same shop. The estimate to repair engine was too high and I decided that I will not complete it at this shop at that time. Meanwhile, they removed my brand new starter that was fully paid ( parts and labor).When I came to pick up my boat, they told me that they needed that starter immediately for another boat and will provide me with same replacement. They took my property from my boat and I was nice enough to accept the replacement and even told them that they don't have to reinstall it since the engine had to come out anyway. It took almost one year to rebuild my engine and when it was time to install the starter-- it was wrong starter. When I ask for replacement they gave me rebuild(not new)starter that broke after 10 min. Dishonest!!!!Desired Settlement: I would like a full refund for non provided service. I would like to make other consumers aware of potential outcome dealing with this business. I would like for the owner of this business to understand that it is illegal to remove a part that was fully paid for even from non functional boat. I consider that stealing!!!

I am rejecting this response because:

The business had no right to remove original starter installed into my boat since I payed in full for parts and labor. ( total $307.54)My receipt states [redacted] starter-- not [redacted]-* that they claim they gave me.Not the gentlemen who worked on my boat, but me personally brought rebuild and defective starter back to the shop.That starter was painted black and was different then the picture on the box.Joe, the mechanic, admitted that they made a mistake and gave me the wrong starter. He accepted that wrong starter from me on 8/5/2014 and gave me the receipt stating that he received it. I have that original receipt he gave along with pictures of that rebuild nonfunctional starter on top of the shop counter.Joe, the owner of this shop agreed to issue a refund when he was contacted on the phone. when follow up phone calls were made, he changed his mind and stated that he will not do anything in regards to this matter.I have copies of the original reciept 7/3/13, reciept for non working starter 8/5/14, and pictures

He was not the one who picked up the starter. But he brought it back and that is when toke a picture on the counter. That’s is what my staff said. I will offer a refund for $185.00.

This will be my finial offer to close the case.

Mr Joe M[redacted] (the business owner) had promised the refund pertaining to this issue in the past, but never followed thru with his promise.
