Review: daughters car was brought in to have new brakes and rotors replaced ( parts were supplied by myself) in front and rear told owner that one caliper may need to be replaced and if so he was to call and I would supply the part to be replaced

the next morning I received phone call the one caliper need to be replaced . I quickly picked up part and brought to him as soon as possible as requested. We picked up vehicle later on that day. paid for labor only $230.00 in cash ( I should have asked for receipt but unfortunately I didn't) . A few days later my daughter calls and says every time I step on the brakes its making a noise. I said okay stop here after work we will go down to shop and tell him the issue. At that time he was very busy so said stop here tomorrow and I will take it for a ride and see whats going on. That very next morning on her way to work driving down route 287 to New York she steps on the brakes and she has no brakes. She calls me scared and frightened thank God she is an excellent driver. The car now was brought to another shop in Bloomfield. She didn't go to work the next day , being all shook up from what had happened the previous morning. The mechanic called the following morning and first thing he said to her was where did you have brakes done and was he trying to kill you.He said the rotors were never tightened and old caliper seals were used, so fluid was leaking out. Of course we needed it repaired which costs her another $100.00 to have fixed. He also told her that she may hear a small noise for awhile because the one rotor was damaged from the situation that occurred. It may get better in time but the rotor may need to be replaced with another new one. I called the owner of Captain Auto Repair and told him what had happened . He told me that it was impossible for this to have been the problem because he did the work himself and it was done properly.

I have the old ring seals from the mechanic in Bloomfield.Desired Settlement: Refund for additional charges my daughter had to pay for a Job that should have been done properly the first time .

Ms. [redacted] sent a complaint regarding a brake job I did for her daughter's car. The repairs were done on 4/03/2014. she called me on 05/22/2014 later in the evening, OVER A MONTH after the repairs to tell me her daughter had a problem with the car. I told her to come in on 5/23/2014 first thing in the morning and I would check it out, but she never came in. She called me days later to tell me of the incident on the highway. I explained to her that I was happy to look at the car and see what the problem was, but again, she never brought the car in. In the letter it says I was busy and did not have time to take a look at the car, but this is not the case. I gave her a time slot to come in first thing in the morning (we open at 7am), and she was a no call/no show. It turns out that her daughter had some issues on the road and the car went to a different mechanic. I have no factual information from the mechanic stating what exactly it is that he fixed or found; further, the incident occurred a month after the repairs AND the customer herself did not bring the car back in when she complained there was a problem as I was HAPPY to take a look at it and see what the problem was. As it were, her statement that the rotor was damaged but may be ok with time is impossible; once a rotor is damaged it must be replaced or resurfaced or would be unsafe to drive. I am not sure what "ring seals" she is referring too, I used the parts the customer provided, as she herself states in her complaint. I cannot assess if the issue on the highway had anything at all to do with my repairs,I have seen no statement from the other mechanic and have not seen the car since my work on it on 4/3/14; as such I will not compensate for someone elses work - that I have no idea what was done, why it was done, etc. I pride myself on workmanship and customer service and would have been happy to re-as the car, even a month after the brake job...even though it was with parts she brought herself, parts that I do not guarantee, and that I explicitly stated would not guarantee. However, in this particular case, the customer did not show up to her appointment, did not let me evaluate what was wrong - my work or her parts - AND waited a full month before complaining. I do not feel that I owe any monetary compensation for something that clearly was not my fault. Please feel free to contact me with any further questions as I would be happy to clarify or send in copies of my appointment book showing the time and date of her original car service.
