Mr*** brought his Mazda in because his key would not turn in the ignition cylinderHe warned us that if we turned
the car off & removed the key that he could not get it to turn to start the car againHe said his quick "fix" that he found on Youtube was to use a vibrating sander and a block of wood held against the key to vibrate the pins & tumbler to allow it to turn and startHe was quote "worried that it might leave him stuck somewhere"We quoted Mr *** the cost to replace the ignition lock assembly & codingThis would eliminate his "sander & wood" required to start the car
He authorized the repairWe found out that the part needed was on "national back order" from MazdaThe parts was priority ordered, and arrived within a weekHe had taken the car, and returned when the part arrivedWe replaced the ignition lock assembly as estimated & approvedNow the key works properly, turns easy, and can be operated without any issue(no sander needed)
Mr***'s wife came to pick up the vehicleShe
became upset when she said the keyless entry & smart key would not open the carI told her that I was aware the the keyless entry did not work when the vehicle was dropped off,(prior to any repair) as I tried to lock the car on the lot the day it came in....Mr*** was using the key in the lock cylinderMr*** never mentioned this, nor asked us to repair thisI think Mr*** may have assumed that if we fixed the ignition key/lock cylinder, that the other issues would go away...He kept that logic private, and never asked us to look into the smartkey problemI since asked Mr *** how long he had been using the "auxiliary key" he said at least a few weeks...I explained to him the reason he was using the auxillary key was the smart key system had failed first...To help address their concerns, Car-Doc looked into the additional smartkey concernWe located a Technical service bulletin that was issued by Mazda #TSB XX-XXX/06, it explained his smartkey issueMazda has released a new module & software to correctBut to be absolutely sure & to calm his concern, we took his car at our expense to the Mazda dealer...They agreed that it needed the TSB performed...It is not covered under warranty, the additional repairs if desired would be about $1,We furnished the TSB document & estimate to Mr***He said that he seldom drives the car, and since we fixed/now he can start it & drive it just fine with the key he would forego the extra expense & not fix the smartkey systemCar-Doc has full documentation on our work order outlining the original problem, the scope of work & the estimate to repairWe performed the repair as outlinedThis extra repair that Mr*** may have assumed would be fixed by "default, or association" is not covered nor included for free
Car-Doc has all signed documentation, as well as copies of the factory service bulletin & supporting documents from *** *** available if needed
