The appropriate recourse in this case is a full and complete refund of the more than $400 paid. The facts are clear. My car demonstrably has a blown motor. Given the fact that, between the time Car Doctors surrendered my car to me and today, it was only towed 4 or 5 miles to another [redacted] and then definitively diagnosed by that [redacted] as having a blown motor, there are literally only three possibilities: (a) Car Doctors failed to properly diagnose the blown motor and, in failing to do so, encouraged me to pay for work that could not possibly solve the problem; (b) Car Doctors recognized the blown motor, but nevertheless recommended work that could not possibly solve the problem; (c) Car Doctors received the car without the motor being blown, but surrendered the car to me with a blown motor following work they performed on the vehicle.Given the fact of my blown motor, there is literally no other possibility but for those three. Our offer to [redacted] was fair and timely, and would have resolved his concerns when he received his car back from us.Now it appears he merely wants to blame and punish us, which is completely unfair. We have had customers before who could not be satisfied with any amount of kindness and professionalism that we provided, and were determined to believe we were dishonest and unfair, regardless of the reality. We no longer have them as customers, which is a good thing for us. We have lots of customers who recognize and appreciate our honesty and professionalism, and who know that we back up our work, and ultimately help them have an economical means of repairing and maintaining their vehicles.[redacted]Car Doctors of Westchester

Review: I have dropped off my car for service last January **, 2016 at 05:00 am. I left the car and dropped off the key to their EARLY BIRD DROP OFF BOX. I did not received a phone call regarding service was finished that day. So I called them around 4:30 pm but the phone line keep on saying "ITS BUSY". Tried calling them several times but nobody was picking up the telephone. I came to the business location to personally check my vehicle but the business is close. NO notices posted outside if the business is open or close. I tried asking the deli around and near the shop but they don't have any idea if its close or not. Up until filing this report, the business is still close and nobody would pick up the phone. I went to social media to contact the owner through their webpage but no reply. Tried to message family or friends and employee from what I could find in [redacted] and [redacted] but I have no reply. I called Yonkers Hotline and they advised me to file a complaint to Revdex.com.Desired Settlement: I just need my car keys back. It is still locked in their dopped off box. I could not use my car without the car keys. I need them to call me or email me.

Review: I had a water leak problem. Every time it rained the ceiling of my roof, my seats and floor were wet. I have a sun roof so I brought my car in to determine where exactly it was coming from and what was causing it. I wasn't sure if it was the drainage of my sun roof or the sun roof itself or possibly the seals at my windows. They determined after supposedly water testing my car and having it for more than a week that it was my sun roof and I had two options: 1) to get a new sun roof and have it installed or 2) seal up my sun roof. A new sun roof was $1200 for the part not including labor so I decided to just seal it up. After my car was returned to me and I believed the problem to be fixed, it rained and upon my surprise there was even more water in my car. I called up very aggravated that I had spent close to $500 for the problem to not only NOT be fixed but was worse then before. I returned at a later date and this time they put a painted sealant on my entire roof. My car is gold and I now have a black roof which I didn't care about as long as the problem was fixed. And it still isn't fixed. It is still worse then ever and I have to go around putting a tarp over my car every time it rains.Desired Settlement: Refund my money.

Review: On Thursday, March **, my 2005 Honda Civic would not start despite repeated attempts. I had the car towed to Car Doctors in Yonkers ([redacted].) so the problem could be diagnosed. Later that afternoon, I received a phone call from the business' [redacted], telling me that my car had very serious mechanical issues and giving me an estimate for repairs. I was told the following service was needed: cylinder head restoration; replace head gaskets; replace timing belt and tensioner; tune up (spark plugs, PCV valve, air filter); and oil change. The estimate was for approximately $1952. I told [redacted] that I needed to think about it, and I'd call back in the morning.

The following morning (Friday, March **), I received a call from [redacted] at about 9:30am. He told me that he thought he had a solution for me to get the car back in running shape. He said the combination of a tune up, an oil change and something called engine performance restoration would most likely get the car running again. He also said that, upon further inspection, the initial diagnosis of a blown cylinder head was probably incorrect. He strongly recommend that I follow the new course of action he laid out. I agreed to authorize the work, based upon [redacted]'s telling me that the initial diagnosis seemed to have been erroneous and that the newly recommended work would probably get the car running again. The total cost was $402.01.

Later that afternoon, I received a call from Car Doctors. I was told that they'd gotten my car running and it was idling well, but they'd discovered that the catalytic converter needed to be replaced. The [redacted] told me that "it could go tomorrow or it could go a year from now," but it was badly damaged and it needed to be replaced. That would cost more than $700 additional, beyond the more than $400 of work I’d already agreed to. The [redacted] told me that he'd bring my car on a test drive that afternoon, and he'd let me know how it went. Later that evening, shortly before 5:00pm, I called back and spoke to [redacted]. He told me that catalytic converter problem was "serious," and that he doubted I'd even be able to get the car off the property. He strongly urged me to come in the next day (Saturday, March **) for further discussion.

When I returned on Saturday, the car was in a non-running state. I was told that, if I paid the over $700 in parts and labor for a new catalytic converter, the car would be in good shape. When I said I would not be willing to invest more money in the car, [redacted] offered to forgive my $402.01 balance due and pay me an additional $400 just to take the car himself. Rather than doing that, though, I had the car towed off the Car Doctors property and brought to another shop: [redacted] in [redacted]. Given that Car Doctors gave me one diagnosis on the first day (blown cylinder head); offered me a different solution the second day, saying the original diagnosis seemed to have been incorrect; and then cited a catalytic converter problem that hadn't even been on the initial estimate form, I had grown mistrustful and I'd wanted a different [redacted] to look at the car.

I spoke to [redacted] this afternoon, and the [redacted] let me know that the Honda Civic's motor is completely blown. The cylinders were washed out, so the rings were no good at the bottom of the cylinders. The car essentially needs an entirely new motor, and the [redacted] told me $3,000 to $4,000 of repairs are actually what would be necessary to get the car on the road again.

The reasons I am upset are twofold:

1. Why was I strongly encouraged to get a tune up, an oil change and an engine performance restoration ($402.01) on a car with a blown motor? None of those things would resolve a blown motor...not even potentially. When I called Car Doctors this afternoon to make my initial complaint, the [redacted] told me the fact that he’d gotten the car to idle well argues against the car having a blown motor. However, given the fact that my car was definitively diagnosed by Harpo’s Service as having a blown motor after my car had been towed away from Car Doctors, that would only indicate that Car Doctors themselves blew the motor.

2. After the tune up, oil change and engine performance restoration had already been done by Car Doctors, I was told that the real culprit was a catalytic converter problem, which they could fix for hundreds of dollars more. However, replacing the catalytic converter would also not resolve a blown motor. So, had I spent that money, I'd STILL have a nonfunctional car that needed a new motor. Instead of spending $400 on work that wouldn't solve the problem, it’d have been more than $1100 of work that wouldn't solve the problem.

I can only draw one of three conclusions: (a) Car Doctors could not recognize a blown motor and, instead, felt that a tune up, an oil change and an engine performance restoration, and then a new catalytic converter, would fix the problem -- which it would not; (b) Car Doctors encouraged me to pay hundreds of dollars for work that they knew full well would not address the fundamental, underlying issue of a blown motor; (c) while my car was in its mechanics’ care, Car Doctors rendered my car’s motor blown.Desired Settlement: I wish to receive a full and complete refund of the amount I paid: $402.01.
