[To assist us in bringing this matter to a close, you must give us a reason why you are rejecting the responseIf no reason is received your complaint will be closed Administratively Resolved] Complaint: [redacted] I am rejecting this response because: Carbide Construction did not fulfill its contractual obligations They: -Did not perform work in a satisfactory and workman like manner; -Consistently failed to maintain a clean job site; -Were deficient in several areas in meeting local building codeVery Specifically, despite of Carbide's contention, Carbide was hired to provide a modular addition AND the foundation on which the addition would rest, including a crawl space under the new mudroom This crawl space was only worked on by Carbide and its workers Neither other contractors nor the homeowners entered or worked on this space until after mold was discovered thereCarbide's failure to remove its discarded construction debris [DC Code RRemoval of debris] from the crawl space, coupled with the improperly installed vapor barrier [DC Code RUnvented crawl space], led directly to the mold growth DC Building Code requires that the vapor barrier: -Completely cover the dirt floor; -Overlap the walls, and; -Be sealed in place Carbide provided a loose piece of plastic that was too small for the space and did not even cover the entire floor In addition, Carbide's worker installed plywood over the opening between the crawl space and the basement thus preventing adequate airflow in the crawl space and further contributing to the mold growth As soon as we discovered the mold growth in the crawl space: -We notified Carbide -We requested that they send the owner to inspect They offered to send the person who had performed the unsatisfactory work Having the work done properly was our primary goal, and we were concerned that it would not be achieved unless someone else from the company came to see it.In addition to not installing the vapor barrier to building code, a DC Building Inspector found deficiencies -In providing access to the attic in the modular addition; -In the construction of the basement stairs Both of these items were part of the work to be performed by Carbide per our contract Finally, once this dispute arose, we asked that Carbide remove marketing photos of our house from its website To date, it has failed to do so In our opinion, this is advertising Carbide is representing its work on our house as satisfactory when it was notIn our opinion, Carbide has not made a sincere effort to resolve these concerns Regards, [redacted]

Customer satisfaction is a key objective of Carbide Construction Co., Inc(CCCI) when entering into any construction project While the allegations in the Revdex.com complaint are not well founded, it is plain that the customer is not satisfied and we at CCCI are truly sorry to hear this CCCI is a family business started in and we pride ourselves on high quality work and customer satisfaction This is the first Revdex.com complaint we have received CCCI was a sub-contractor to the owner and provided a custom/detailed modular addition that was not totally complete The owner pulled the required permits and acted as the general contractor for this project The following is our response: CCCI was responsible for rough grading the job We left the job with positive drainage away from the foundation Finish grade, seed and straw were the responsibility of the owner The request for CCCI to pay for mold re-mediation is without merit CCCI did not cause the mold purportedly in a crawl space The owner and numerous other contractors performed work on the projects and CCCI believes the condition was caused by others Plastic was placed in the crawl space to code CCCI is aware of a small piece of construction debris under the plastic and would have corrected the defect if allowed to do so by the owner CCCI has tried to work with the owner to resolve his concerns without success CCCI recognizes this one Revdex.com complaint may hurt its business but has done all it can to resolve this matter to the owner's satisfaction We are truly sorry that it has come to this
