On the morning of April 9, 2014, I neutered a male dachshund for the client who has made a complaintThe surgery was uneventful, recovery from anesthesia was normal, and the dog was discharged that afternoon on the routine medications that are given to all neuter surgeries. That evening the owner called me with concerns that the dog was bleedingI offered to see the dog at my other clinic, near my home, where I often see after-hour emergenciesThe client refused and chose to wait until the next morning, requesting an appointment at the office where the surgery was done.I saw the dog the next morning and the dog presented with bleeding under the skin and discoloration characteristic of bruisingUpon examination, the condition of the dog was not critical and it had not experienced significant blood lossI suggested the possibility of a clotting disorder and dispensed antibiotics and pain medicine before sending the dog home with the ownerI gave the client my cell phone number, by which many of my clients communicate with meThis is by no means uncommon in my practice, either with myself or any of the other doctorsSince we do not charge for a return visit following surgery, no office fee was chargedAdditional medications, however, are expected to be paid forThis client took the medicines and left the office without paying. The client called back with questions the same afternoon and spoke with one of my associatesAgain the possibility of a clotting disorder was suggested, which would require further testing, but would be valuable health information for the client if the dog needed to undergo surgery at another time. The client called back the next week to make another appointmentThe client was informed that she had an outstanding bill for the medications from the last visit, payment for which would be expected when she came in for another appointmentAn appointment was made for the dog, but the client later called to cancel the appointmentI have not heard from this client again, and the bill for the medicine that she took is still outstanding.Sincerely yours,

I am rejecting this response because there are many false statements in his rebuttal.  He stated my dog was sent home with medication, that is untrue. We were not sent home with any medication until the following day when I went back so he could check my dog. It was at that visit, that we were given antibiotics and pain medication. I was also sent home without a cone but was sent home with papers on how to care for a spayed dog. My dog is a male so I should have gotten neutering papers. This just shows the carelessness. I also had the dog micro chipped  that day. Included in the price is the registration. I decided to check a couple weeks later to assure myself the information they  registered is correct. It was never done, so I did it myself.
Another false statement in his rebuttal is he claims he offered a nearby clinic, he did not. He offered his home for a check up.
He claims his associate spoke with me about a disorder. She only explained to me how the neuter is done and how "only the main vessels are tied off" and "he must have bled out".
I still feel I am NOT responsible for the medications for a neuter that went wrong. If it was done correctly, I would not have any monies due. Due to his negligence I incurred almost three hundred dollars in follow up care at a different veterinary hospital, so I do not think it is fair to be charged sixty dollars for two medications that did not even correct the problem. My dog almost died on April 9, 2014.  I have attached three photos. The third one was the incision TEN DAYS LATER!

Review: My husband and I brought our 2 yr old 10 lb mini dachshund, [redacted], to Carbondale Veterinary Hospital for a neuter, microchip etc. on April 9, 2014. We dropped him off at 9 a.m. & picked him up at 2 p.m. Everything seemed fine until later that evening, when we noticed serious internal bleeding, or hemorrhaging under [redacted]'s skin on his abdomen. I called the office & was transferred to Dr. [redacted]. He said if I wanted my dog looked at, I can bring the dog to his home in [redacted]. It was 10 p.m. at night & I wasn't about to go traveling in the dark with my dog to an area I have never even heard of. He said make an appointment in the morning so [redacted] can be seen. I stayed up all night with [redacted], thinking & hoping he would not die. [redacted]'s breathing was shallow, he was shivering & shaking, not eating or drinking & extremely lethargic. The next morning, I made an appointment. My husband & I brought [redacted] back to see Dr. [redacted]. He looked him over quickly & gave 2 medicines, one for pain and the other was an antibiotic. Later that day, over 24 hours after the surgery, [redacted] was still lethargic, not eating, drinking or going to the bathroom. I called the office again & spoke with Dr. [redacted] and she explained to me "only the main vessels are tied off for the surgery" & "the secondary ones usually clot" Obviously the bleeding didn't stop because [redacted]'s entire lower lower was almost purple. I have pictures to taken every few hours. Dr. [redacted] called me on April 11, 2014 to check up on [redacted] & gave me his personal cell number in case there was a problem over the weekend. (if [redacted] wasnt in serious danger why would the doctor give me his number?)I received a bill for the medicines on Saturday April 12 for $64. I'm not responsible for the cost of this since I did nothing wrong. I called to inquire about why I was billed for this and the woman I spoke with transferred me to Dr. [redacted]. He got very nasty & told me this will go to litigation & my bill will go to collections. He then hung up on me!Desired Settlement: I would like his license looked into very deeply and possibly revoked for butchering my dog. I have talked to other people who also have had problems with this same doctor. I would like a full refund for the neuter and to remove the $64 I am being charged for.
