This matter was brought to our attention on December 8th, The reason for not being able to complete the extern was due to a conflict with her work schedule She stated that she had originally enrolled as a Diploma Student and then upgraded to an Associate Student CPC pulled her file and the only enrollment agreement in her file reflects the original enrollment date as an Associate Student The student cannot provide any conflicting documents A representative from our Corporate office invited the student and her family to view her file prior to the end of and to my knowledge that has not happened After receiving this complaint our Corporate office again reached out to the student The student was going to provide medical documentation to support the inability to complete an extern; again to my knowledge that has not happened The catalog that the student enrolled in requires the student to complete an extern CPC will do everything possible to accommodate the student in the completion of this extern so she can become a graduate

We are sorry that this graduate feels as though this is a "bogus school/loan" and are more than willing to assist students in finding employment in field.  As stated in the first full paragraph of the "Enrollment Agreement": that the individual signed on December 22, 2004:  "I understand...

that guaranteed employment on the part of any legitimate institution of learning is unethical and this school does not subscribe to it.  However, the school offers employment assistance to all graduates".The tuition charged on the enrollment agreement is $15, 000 and the student received test out credit for CPT 119, CPT 321 and CPT 324 which reduced the tuition by $2581.00 bringing the cost of his education to $12,419.00.This individual did very well in school and based on grades and attendance should have been able to be employed in field. His diploma is not "useless" and Career Point did hold up its end of the Enrollment Agreement. Career Point College offers refresher classes and graduation to all students in good standing with their loans.  This individual defaulted on his federal loans in 2011.  On January 4, 2005 the student signed a "Consequences of Default" form that states 11 items that may happen should he default on his loans.  The student also took a one page quiz on the same day and in his handwriting responded: 6.  Three consequences of default are: 1.  garnish wages 2.  bad credit 3.  take away income taxStill, 10 years later the College "assists" graduates in finding employment after graduation.  This individual is more than welcome to reach out to our Career Services department for assistance should he choose.

I am rejecting this response because: Career Point College is ignoring the specific and the issues I have provided. I would love to sit down with a neutral party to discuss my unsatisfactory experience with Career Point College.
Regards,

This student has verified attendance from May 25, 2010 until September 10, 2010.  Our semesters are 8 weeks long and she attended 1 week short of two semesters.  Her tuition on her "Enrollment Agreement" that she signed on May 21, 2010 states that the tuition for this program is...

$24,400.00.  Based on attending 15 weeks of a 52 week program the student attended 28% of the program.  She was enrolled under Catalog 47 dated April 12, 2010.  On page 19 it states the "Refund Policies".  Number 5-e states that "after 25% up to 50% of course 50% refund of tuition".  Based on that information Career Point was entitled to $12,200.00The student received two separate stipend checks from the school in the amount of $222.22 each.  The original balance on her loan with Navient (previously called Sallie Mae) was $4750.00 which is substantially less that the entitled amount.   Career Point College did not "bill my student loan sallie Mae as if I graduated".To date the student has signed six forbearances and has made one ten dollar payment three days prior to filing this complaint.  Any increase in the balance owed to the loan company is between the student and the loan company.  Career Point College has not received any additional funding for this student.  The student, not Career Point College, is responsible for any positive or negative information that is reported to a students credit bureau.

I am rejecting this response because:
Good Afternoon,Thank you for your reply. You stated that because of my test outs and passing scores my tuition was credited bringing the cost of my education to a total of $12,419 however my credit report reflects that I owe a total of $15,000 to USA Funds for student loans.I would like to have a copy of the “Consequences of Default” form, the one page quiz that I allegedly was administered, a copy of the terms and conditions of job placement asistance and the job placement statistics for the graduate's of the Computer Network Techs for the location that I attended my classes. Please don’t confuse this with the externship, I’d like to see the actual rate of real employment.I agree with you, the fact that I maintained perfect attendance along with continuously making the Deans List there should not have been a problem gaining employment but the fact of the matter is I didn’t gain employment in the field with or without Career Points assistance as promised then and now “10 years later” the diploma is useless to me as it was the day I graduated and went home unemployed. Let's face it majority of the people that attend Career Point attend with the assumption of job placement upon completion just as I did if I just wanted to go to school and compete for a job without assistance from your "job placement professionals" there are quite a few other accredited schools to choose from in the San Antonio area.

This complaint has been brought to our attention for response. Although the student has completed her course of study and passed her licensing examination, we will nonetheless respond to her list of issues. The student's complaint is very general in nature, and other than specifics about a meeting...

with the owner of the school, contains no actionable items for us to address. In an effort to be compliant, however, we will address each item as it is set out in the lengthy single paragraph.1. The student indicates that she had several issues that she overlooked while at school - The student admits in her statement that she overlooked the issues. Since those issues were not brought to our attention for resolution and are not specified, we will not address them.2. The following issues were part of the same lengthy paragraph, we are not sure they were among those that were overlooked by the student, but will nonetheless address them individually.a. Teacher teaching two classes at one time — without the name of the instructor or course, we are unable to address this or even confirm that this occurred.b. 3 weeks late with books in one class — without a course name and time frame, we are unable to address this.c. Instructor shoved desk at student - Again, with no names or identifying information, we are unable to address this. It does appear from her remarks that she was not a victim of the alleged incident. 3. No consistency in administration — This complaint is general in nature and does not address a particular problem. Nonetheless, the College always retains the right to change administration for the betterment of the program and for the benefit of our students.4. Class schedules changed with < 2 weeks' notice - It is hard to address this with any specificity, but a look at correspondence with the student shows that this complaint may refer to the addition of a Capstone to the schedule. The Capstone instruction was added to assist the RN students to prepare for the NCLEX exam. This instruction was added as soon as was practical, and notice was delivered to the students immediately thereafter. The student completed the Capstone material successfully. The pinning ceremony was re-scheduled to accommodate students that were affected by the change.5. When we complain, we were told to leave by "regional director" or program director — The College does not have a "regional director" so we cannot address this complaint.6. Forced to abide by handbook we never signed or agreed to — The student handbook is a part of the rules, regulations and structure of the nursing program. There is not a provision in the program for the students to "accept" or "agree" to the terms of the handbook.7. Unhappy with clinical sites, never had opportunity to go to labor and delivery — This was an issue that the student addressed with the School Director. Clinical sites were assigned randomly and with consideration of the number of slots available at the site, the instructors available, and the student's schedule. The student wanted to be able to pick and choose here clinical sites, which is contrary to the way clinical sites are assigned. The nursing director at the time did provide the student an opportunity to attend some mother/baby clinical sites prior to the student's completion of the program.8. Kicked out in last two months of program because of threat of complaint to VA — The student was removed from the program not because of her threats, but because of continued unprofessional behavior in the classroom and with staff.9. Escorted off school premises — This is standard procedure when a student is dismissed. This is done to prevent any disruption to classes or the conducting of business at the school. The remainder of the complaint deals with the appeal of her dismissal and the meeting with the VP and owner of the school. The student's name was listed as a complainant in a TWC complaint. The VP and school director called each student that signed the complaint into the office to discuss their issues. At this point the student's dismissal and appeal were considered. The College acknowledges that the student met with the VP of the school (who is no longer employed at the College), the owner, and the nursing director. 10. It was ambush, I was not allowed to bring husband — The meeting was specifically meant to address the student's wish to be reinstated to school. The student's husband's presence was not relevant to the issues being discussed. The term "ambush" is very subjective and general, and is nothing more than the student's perception of the meeting.11. Told by owner he would give money back and issue a transcript, but that the transcript would not mean anything — The College admits that it offered to refund the student's money and issue a transcript for the courses completed to that point. The College denies, however, that the owner stated that the transcripts would "not mean anything." Only the receiving school can make the determination about accepting credits from another school. \12. Would not be allowed to return if money refunded — The College agrees to this statement. The student could either return to school, or have a refund, but not both.13. Owner said "Now, do I ruin your life?" — The College denies that the owner made this comment.14. Made to beg to return to school — The College strenuously denies this statement. The entire purpose of the meeting was to try to get the student to return to complete here studies.15. Owner says he has best lawyers and he was not afraid of me. — The College denies that this statement was made. Even if it was made, there is no actionable issue in the making of the statement.16. Owner said that when 1 attack school I attack him, and by putting name on TWC complaint I attacked him — The College admits that the owner takes complaints personally. That is the reason why the owner agreed to meet with the student, to address the basis of her complaints.17. Owner said TWC complaint would not do anything, he would just show his friends at TWC some paperwork and he is good to go — The owner denies making this statement. All complaints made to TWC are addressed vigorously and with appropriate documentation.18. My $30,000 means nothing to him — The College agrees that the statement was made. The issue being discussed at the meeting was not about money, but about returning the student to classwork so that she could complete her training. No decision would be made about the student solely because of the money.19. He takes young single moms out of the ghettos and puts them in 30-40K jobs — The College admits the statement. It is part of the College's mission to assist a vastly underserved portion of the community and the College stands by its record of doing so.20. Insulted when he asked me who the Vet was in my family — The College does not know how to address this very personal and subjective feeling of the student. 21. Called a problem child. — The College denies that this statement was made. It should be noted, however, that the student had been dismissed for unprofessional and disruptive behavior.22. Never given on opportunity to talk except to answer questions — The College denies that the student was not given an opportunity to address her concerns.23. The issue of the termination was never part of the conversation —The College denies this assertion. In fact, the entire conversation was about the student's return to school.24. Meeting was set up to scare me and it did. If I did not get back into school it would have wasted 16 months of my life — It is the College's position that although the meeting may have tough in the student's perception, it was this "tough love" approach that convinced her to continue her studies and become an RN. The student agreed to return under probation and with specific guidelines for her completion of the program. A copy of her re-entry agreement which set out the terms of re-entry is attached to this letter.25. I was intimidated — See response to #24.26. I was allowed back in school and on my own I persevered and became an RN — The College takes umbrage at this particular allegation. Although the student's hard work and dedication to the completion of her program were exemplary, it was accompanied by extensive instruction, tutoring and support from the faculty, staff and administration.27. I have a hard time dealing with the humiliation and disrespect in the meeting and overall treatment at CPC — The College denies that the student was humiliated or disrespected. See response to #24. The comment about "overall treatment at CPC" is too general and non¬specific to address.28. Issues I encountered were never resolved while 1 was at CPC — As with so many of the other allegations in the complaint, this is non-specific and general and as a result cannot be addressed effectively. The desired settlement is not an option. The student was offered an opportunity to get a refund and walk away from her obligations, and was even offered a chance to get a transcript of her work completed to date. The student chose instead to return to school and complete the program. To suggest that the student deserves a full refund after taking and completing all her training and being prepared to take the NCLEX exam is unjustified and would result in unjust enrichment.Thank you.

I am rejecting the business response
Reply
to Business Response:
I, the
student, did complete the course of study and passed the licensing exam due to
my continued commitment to studying and learning and determination to finish
regardless of the intimidation and obstacles I encountered as a student at Career
Point College
The business
mentioned that initial complaint did not include actionable items to address so
I will restate initial complaint in summary and then respond to the
bulleted/numbered responses provided by the business below:
I attended Career Point College's LVN to
RN program and graduated in April of 2016. There are several issues that were
over looked or were dismissed by leadership when brought to their attention.
Summary and basis of complaint and
request for refund of course tuition and loans:
I did
not overlook the issues. The experience was that leadership dismissed or
overlooked complaints. In the course of the program, several issues were
brought to leadership with no formal resolution or attention. I chose to focus
on studies given fact that complaints were not addressed.Due
to the rules of Revdex.com I am not allowed to use names on complaints, however the course
in which the instructor was teaching two classes simultaneously was PSYC 2401
which was held Wednesdays, January 21, 2015 to March 25, 2015.  This happened on multiple occasions.  The book delay was in course RNSG 1205. I am
sure the school can locate when books arrived for this course which was 3 weeks
after the class began.  The frustration
an instructor exhibited when being asked questions by students, including
myself in class rather than receiving responses or guidance as to where to
locate the answer. This was not overlooked by the school.  However a student that experienced this was
terminated from the program.  Check your
records on this occurrence.  Yes,
the business can definitely retain the right to change administration at will
however, with 6 different directors during my enrollment; this can contribute
to the lack of consistency or stability. A change in leadership usually means
changes in policy, strategies, goals, responses or ability to be available to
students. It can also signal underlying internal problems when there is so much
turnover within an organization. The
Capstone instruction is included with the tuition and of course, I completed it
successfully. I needed to complete Capstone in order to be able to graduate.
However the complaint is not that I did not receive this training but that
scheduling notice was not adequately provided for those with work or childcare
schedules to adjust. Once I did make arrangements for my personal schedule in
order to attend the Capstone class, the Capstone instruction was not available
for 3 weeks.  This put the class behind 3
weeks which is why the school had to adjust pinning dates.  This is another case of class resources not
being available once the class started.
The classroom was still required to attend a Capstone class with no
Capstone program material available. I would like to restate the class schedule
changed with less than 2 weeks’ notice.
We received a new schedule on January 21, 2016 with the changes
effective for February 1, 2016. On
January 21, 2016, my class was addressed by the Director of Nursing (DON) and
another administrator of whom her title was not identified (withholding name
due to Revdex.com rules). At this time the class communicated concerns about the addition
of Capstone to the schedule. The class was then told they could leave the
program if they did not like the changes. At this time the class and I are 3
months away from graduation.  This type
of complaint resolution was also expressed on February 22, 2016. The
school had multiple handbooks and addendums that the class and I were unaware
of.  When I entered the school program I
signed notification of receipt of handbook.
I never received any other notification of policies and procedures
changing however new policies and procedures were forced upon my class and
me.  One of the policies that the school
was upholding upon the class was the requirement for Level 2 on all proctored
exams within an ATI program.  When
students would try to complete these proctored exams the exams were never
available on the computer.  This gave
students an unrealistic timeframe to complete the proctored exams prior to
graduation.  However the Level 2 criteria
was never part of the handbooks at the origination of our classes program. This
was a new policy for newer students.  This
was one of the major issues that was not addressed until my termination from
the program. This was also the basis of a complaint that was filed with Texas
Workforce Commission (TWC)Clinical
practicum is an important part of the programming and learning experience as a
nurse so if a student is unhappy with this aspect of learning, an opportunity
to evaluate or discuss the experience with the administration should be in
place. Attending some mother/baby skills lab is not the same as the active
participation and experience of clinicals. The school failed to provide me with
an active Mother and Baby clinical site.
When asked if I could change clinical sites I was denied with no reason
except that students are not moved.  Even
after I witnessed another student moving clinical sites I was still denied. I
have documentation of where I addressed this issue with the Director of the
school and sent an email to the VP of the school.  This was never satisfied.  When applying for Mother and Baby positions
as a Registered Nurse I was asked specifically about my mother and baby
clinical experience.  I was denied a
position in that field and I feel this was impacted by my lack of clinical
experience in mother and baby. I have sent into Revdex.com a copy of my denial and
emails of the communication to administration regarding this situationI
have never received any verbal or written warning or disciplinary action about
any unprofessional behavior in the classroom or by staff. This was never
brought to my attention. I was only removed from the program when I expressed
filing a complaint so the removal appears retaliatory in nature. I was removed
by the DON on 02/23/2016. This was only after I sent a message on Messenger to
the school that I was going to file a complaint to through Veterans
Education.  I have a copy of my
termination which does not support the schools statement of continued
unprofessional behavior in the classroom and with staff as reason of
termination.  I sent in a copy to Revdex.com
along with copies of positive critiques from my instructors. When
I was escorted off the premises of the school is a detail of how the school
ridiculed me for an unjustly termination.
The remainder of the complaint does address the meeting between myself,
the VP, DON, and the owner.  The TWC
complaint was not addressed with me outside of this meeting.  This meeting was an ambush. I was
not allowed to bring my husband into the meeting.  My husband did arrive with me but had to wait
outside of the meeting for the hour and a half duration of the meeting. The
school replied that the use of the word “ambush” was perceptive. A student’s perception of a meeting is
important because the perception can contribute to a hostile environment.  I did feel my integrity and character
attacked without factual or professional discussion of complaints that I was attempting
to address. I was also attempting to discuss the reentry into the program since
there was not a clear justification as to why dismissal occurred in the first
place. It appears that the school had every intention to use the intimidation
in the meeting.  It appears that this is
the reason why my husband was not allowed into the meeting.  I know if my husband was allowed into the
room he would have intervene with the treatment I was experiencing. I restate my initial complaint in
which the owner did imply the transcripts would have no weight at other schools
thus leading to decision to remain in program versus accepting the refund and
transcript. The school is denying this, however, this meeting was held February
25, 2016. I was 2 months away from my graduation date.  I was finishing my final class of the
program.  I would have gladly taken the
refund and transferred to another nursing program but I was told that the owner
could ruin my life because the transcripts would not transfer to other schools.
This was my only motivation for staying
and taking the intimidation from this meeting.
I am completely confident that I was a professional student. The school confirms the discussion
occurred regarding an offer to refund of money. The statement that was made by
the owner was that the school would give me my money back so there is no
monetary loss and for my time they would give me my transcript and that I could
take that transcript to (two names of local nursing schools) and that it would
be worthless to them.  The owner said the
transcript meant something to Career Point College but I would not be allowed
to attend there.  And then he asked me.
“Now do I ruin your life?”I restate that the owner did make
this statement in an intimidating fashion. “Now do I ruin your life?I was made to beg for reentry to the
school.  The owner waited until I was in
tears and apologizing and begging for them to not terminate me in order to
allow me back into the school.  The owner
waited to break me emotionally until he said he would allow me back in the
school. I restate it was a hostile and intimidating environment.I restate that the owner stated that he had
the best lawyers and he was not afraid of me. This statement is one of many
that contributed to the intimidating and hostile nature of the meeting.I restate that this comment was
made and contributed to the intimidating and hostile nature of the meeting.  The owner took a grievance process personally
and he addressed the issue in a defensive personal way by attacking me verbally
and emotionally.  It is important to keep
professional in a business setting. I never made any derogatory statements towards
owner or administration.I restate that the owner commented
that the complaint filed with TWC would not do anything, and that he would just
show his friends at TWC some paperwork and he would be good to go. This comment
was made and contributed to the intimidating and hostile nature of the meeting.
I restate that the comment
regarding my $30,000 meant nothing to the owner was made and contributed to the
intimidating and hostile nature of the meeting. The money represents a lot to
me because I earned college benefits as a result of two tours of duty in the
armed forces. This is extremely meaningful to me. The education and classwork
was of value to me. The money definitely means something to someone who earned
it by sacrificial duty. The comment made by the owner
regarding how he takes young single moms out of the ghettos and puts them in 30
to 40 thousand dollar jobs was made and I perceived this comment contributed to
the intimidating and hostile nature of the meeting that stereotyped women in a
disrespectful way by use of word ghettos. The owner asked me who was the vet
in my family and then stated, your Dad. Again, I perceived this comment
contributed to the intimidating and hostile nature of the meeting that was
disrespectful to me, a woman because the consideration that I was the Veteran
was not even considered.I restate that I was referred to as
a problem child.  As I was about to leave
the owner made the comment to the DON that I was her “problem child”  I restate that this comment was made and
contributed to the intimidating and hostile nature of the meeting. I restate
that there was never a verbal or written warning or prior disciplinary action
to support the college’s claims that I was unprofessional or disruptive. This is perceived as a personal attack on my
character.The college has not provided
documentation that supports claims that an opportunity to address concerns was
provided to me        . The conversation of this meeting
was about the me returning to school but not about the reason for the
termination. I restate that there was never a verbal or written documentation
or prior disciplinary action to support the college’s claims that I was
unprofessional or disruptive. The termination reason was not part of this meeting.
I have forwarded the Student Action Notice document that describes the
description of my termination as” Student commented negatively on Facebook
messenger.”  I have also forwarded the
content of the message sent to Career Point College that was cause for my
termination.  and 25.The school claims the
meeting was to have a tough love approach to convince me to with my studies and
become an RN.  I never felt any form of
love in this meeting. I convinced and motivated myself to continue in studies.
The goal was always to finish an RN program. I needed no convincing from the school
to complete the RN program. I would rather have transferred elsewhere however I
was told if I did not reenter and complete program, I would lose the year and 4
months already invested because my credits would not transfer to other local
programs.
I acknowledge receipt of training,
educational programming from the College. This however does not discount the complaints
that contributed to an added stress and a less than positive experience thus
the complaint to prevent future attendees from facing retaliatory treatment
when attempting to make complaints. Fact
is an education was received. The education was below satisfactory when
considering the issues of  inadequate
clinical sites,  instructors teaching two
classes simultaneously, and books and
educational resources not being available at the required times.  My hard work and dedication and personal
perseverance and motivation led me to overcome obstacles faced.  I feel that the school has lost touch with
its commitment to the student.  Without a
student you are not a school.  I am a
customer who has received an unsatisfactory and very unprofessional service. I
ask the school.  Why was the offer to
refund me and give me my transcripts after 1 year and 4 months appropriate but
not appropriate after only 2 more months of training?  How much more training did I receive in my
final class of the program then in the preceding 1 year and 4 months? Would
refunding and giving me a transcript of my work 2 months short of completion of
the program not be unjust enrichment? And 28. See 26.

The complaint has been send to the Director of Regulatory Affairs at the College.  We will have the problem resolved by the first of the week at the latest.

This student enrolled in our Nurse Aide program on June 22, 2015.  She achieved an "A" in the first class and a "C" in the second class.  She was unable to complete the third class which involved taking a patients blood pressure.  The college made all possible accommodations including...

trying multiple stethoscopes and paid for the student to be evaluated by a medical professional on July 15th, 2015.  After receiving the diagnosis on the 15th the nursing director met with the student on the 16th and was given the option of a refund which she decided against.  The student contacted the Revdex.com on the 18th and then sent her instructor an email on July 22nd requesting a refund which the instructor replied to. The College has already started the full-refund process that was originally offered to the student on July 16th.  Being able to successfully take a patients blood pressure is a requirement for the class as well as the National test to become a Certified Nurse Aid.  We hope that this addresses and resolves this matter.

This matter was brought to our attention on December 8th, 2014.  The reason for not being able to complete the extern was due to a conflict with her work schedule.  She stated that she had originally enrolled as a Diploma Student and then upgraded to an Associate Student.  CPC pulled...

her file and the only enrollment agreement in her file reflects the original enrollment date as an Associate Student.  The student cannot provide any conflicting documents.  A representative from our Corporate office invited the student and her family to view her file prior to the end of 2014 and to my knowledge that has not happened.  After receiving this complaint our Corporate office again reached out to the student.  The student was going to provide medical documentation to support the inability to complete an extern; again to my knowledge that has not happened.  The catalog that the student enrolled in requires the student to complete an extern.  CPC will do everything possible to accommodate the student in the completion of this extern so she can become a graduate.

Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because:
Regards,
[redacted] I didn't learn anything from the school the teachers don't even show up to class and the students are teaching themselves. Yes I only made a $10 payment because just like every other single mother of two boys you have other priorities besides paying a bill for a class with a fake teacher. I called and called and no one was able to call me back. Fake school who promises fake hopes and can I transfer the credit for as long as I went to school? No so why must I pay for a fake as school who doesn't have real teachers?

Please feel free to contact me should there be any additional questions.

The rejection of our response did not add any additional details or information.   Our decision stays as it is, but we will submit to mediation if that will help resolve the issue.
