We purchased a custom built Carey home in 2004, a one of a kind all brick bungalow with an *** stone front.
Almost immediately, we noticed cracks in the mortar between the stones. The immediate response from Carey was that the cracks were "acceptable", that this was a "normal occurrence", and "the mortar cracking around the stone is neither abnormal, nor indicative of a problem", and it is "merely an esthetic issue". Repeated calls and e-mails over the years indicated that Carey Homes would not take any action.
An Engineer's report revealed TWO VIOLATIONS OF THE BUILDING CODE. The lintel was under designed, causing the beam to sag, and the mortar to crack up to the roofline.
"Safety is a concern, and remedial work was unavoidable", according to the Engineer.
$32,000 later, we now have a properly constructed exterior.
There are several other builders in the Region that you may contract with.
this client believed there was a problem, and his own engineer verified it was normal 10 yrs ago, well past any warranty; the client then hand a contractor do work 15 yrs after it was built, and removed and replaced and demanded Carey Homes pay despite his own validation there was nothing wrong. once we declined reimbursing for the work, he assured us he would do everything he could to disparage our company and as such he is apparently finding your venue a suitable means to start.
Carey Homes has not yet addressed the safety concerns, nor the violations of the Building Code, as outlined in the Engineer's report.
