Caricofe's Auto Repair & Machine Shop Reviews (2)

On February 18, 2014 my business was dispatched by the VA State Police to mile marker 118 on I 81
North in Augusta County VA. The dispatcher stated that there was a truck pulling a car hauler containing
two vehicles that had gone off the road. The dispatcher was not sure of the damage to any of...

the
vehicles.  Not knowing the exact damage to the dually truck nor whether the car hauling trailer was
intact, upright, and still able to hold the 2 vehicles it was carrying, my business dispatched 2 rollbacks, a
wrecker, and one dually truck in order to be able to tow 3 vehicles and the car hauler.
Upon arriving at the scene, the truck and car hauler were not parked on the side of the road as the
customer states, but were over an embankment on the right hand side of I81-N. The dually truck had
sustained some front end damage as well as deployment of the airbags. The car hauler was upright and
intact, however a Lexus SUV on the hauler was no longer completely secure as a result of the accident.
The driver of the truck was taken to a local hospital by ambulance, not by the State Police as the
customer states. We remain unaware of the condition of the driver at the time of the wreck. Due to
the high volume of traffic on this section of I 81, as owner, I made the decision to attempt to drive the
dually truck and car hauler 2 miles to the next exit, in order to better facilitate the towing of the
vehicles, the safety of my employees, and avoid either congestion or further damage to the customer's
vehicles due to the high volume of traffic along. The dually truck and the car hauler were operable
enough to drive them 2 miles to the next exit, not to our impound lot as the customer states. Once
safely removed from I 81 and taken to the next exit. All vehicles were secured at this point and taken to
our impound lot in New Hope, VA approximately 20 miles from the original location of the accident.
In regards to the method of payment: We are a small family run business that has experienced way too
many bad checks, and our no check policy has been in place for quite some time. We also no longer
accept credit cards from customers that live outside the local area, as this customer does, due to the
difficulty of collecting fees if the credit card is declined.  It is also our policy to impound ANY vehicle we
have towed until payment for towing and storage is received.

Review: On February 18th one of my vehicles for my business was stopped on the side of the interstate due to a health condition. The Va State police came to the scene and he was taken to the hospital by the Va State Police. The police stated they had to call the next business on the list for towing and my company Vehicle was to be TOWED to safety until my employee was released from the hospital. When this company arrived according the Va State Trooper my vehicle was actually driven back to their impound yard. I own a Auto transport company. My Ford dually which was pulling a car trailer that was loaded with two cars was driven away. A total of 2 miles from the scene to the impound yard. The charge was $1575.00 The business wouldn't take a credit/debit card to settle this amount. They demanded a cash payment before my vehicle was released. I had to go my bank the next morning and do wire transfer and until this was in their hands my vehicle wasn't released.Desired Settlement: I feel that considering the distance traveled of 2 miles and my vehicle wasn't even towed.. it was DRIVEN to the impound yard $1575.00 is an extremely high price. I had no choice in the matter of the tow company that used. This was all handled by Va State Police. I've been in contact with the state trooper who came to the scene today and exact words were " I'm very sorry we had to call them" "they are crooks" and he stated complaints are on this business very often. A reasonable charge I understand and willing to pay.
