The client will receive the requested refund even though it is $more than the sales generatedThey were already given an additional $credit and their deposit was returned So essentially I am not only saying I am extremely apologetic about the outcome but I'm giving them an additional $over the money generated to ease their pain and frustrationThe client did sign a contract for an estate sale at a cost of $When we arrived in the home to begin work, we immediately saw there were not enough items remaining to generate that amount of sales I tried to contact the clients by phone and email as they were out of stateNeither was successful I felt the best option to generate revenue for them was the auction, where the bidders determine the selling price, in comparison to proceeding with an estate saleAll the on-line auction clients are told their items will start at $This situation was different because I could not reach the clients to explain the transfer from the physical estate sale approach (where they would definitely come up short.) I was trying to generate revenue for them by using the on-line auction tool since I could not reach them My goal was not to devalue the items or have my clients be disappointedIt was to meet my obligation to sell their items for the best price possible and have their home ready for the movers when the clients returned from their vacation I cannot control the bidding, or the perceived value of the items by the biddersThe auction was advertised on the same web sites as all the other auctions are, it received all the same advertising effortsHowever, I do understand and acknowledge their frustrationsI also was frustrated I could not reach the clients and apparently should have just left the items in the house and walked away from the situationInstead I am refunding all sales generated plus $despite my payroll and advertising costsHopefully this will resolve the situation and I am truly sorry for the outcome [redacted]

The client will receive the requested refund even though it is $500 more than the sales generated. They were already given an additional $200 credit and their deposit was returned.
So essentially I am not only saying I am extremely apologetic about the outcome but I'm giving...

them an additional $700 over the money generated to ease their pain and frustration.
The client did sign a contract for an estate sale at a cost of $3500. When we arrived in the home to begin work, we immediately saw there were not enough items  remaining to generate that amount of sales.  I tried to contact the clients by phone and email as they were out of state. Neither was successful.  I felt the best option to generate revenue for them was the auction, where the bidders determine the selling price, in comparison to proceeding with an estate sale.
All the on-line auction clients are told their items will start at $1.00. This situation was different because I could not reach the clients to explain the transfer from the physical estate sale approach (where they would definitely come up short.) I was trying to generate revenue for them by using the on-line auction tool since I could  not reach them.
My goal was not to devalue the items or have my clients be disappointed. It was to meet my obligation to sell their items for the best price possible and have their home ready for the movers when the clients returned from their vacation.  I cannot control the bidding, or the perceived value of the items by the bidders. The auction was advertised on the same web sites as all the other auctions are, it received all the same advertising efforts.
However, I do understand and acknowledge their frustrations. I also was frustrated I could not reach the clients and apparently should have just left the items in the house and walked away from the situation. Instead I am refunding all sales generated plus $700 despite my payroll and advertising costs.
Hopefully this will resolve the situation and I am truly sorry for the outcome.
