August 1, 2016—[redacted] contacted me about a roof leak. My co-worker and I were in the area, so we stopped by the address, and [redacted] told us approximately where the roof may be leaking. The section of the roof is extremely high, and we did not have a ladder long enough to access that area, so...

I told him we would return “tomorrow” (which would have been August 2, 2016) to have a look and make the repair. At no time did [redacted] request an estimate or tell me that he did not want a repair done if we were able to easily find the problem.  August 2, 2016—My co-worker and I returned to the residence and [redacted] was not home. We brought the 40’ ladder with us. My co-worker found the areas of the roof needing repair, took photos (which I still have), left to purchase the proper repair materials, and then he repaired the areas. It was not an expensive repair, and we proceeded in good faith to fix the issues. Had [redacted] specifically asked for an estimate on Monday, after looking at the structure, I would not have returned the next day, as the roof is extremely high and a difficult area to just “have a look,” however, if it had required a more extensive repair, we certainly would have consulted with [redacted] before proceeding. I have been in business for many years, and I take pride in my work. I do not conduct business dishonestly, and I take offense to [redacted]’s implication that I was deliberately trying to cheat him in some way, as well as this effort to tarnish my reputation. It is my opinion that [redacted] is trying to swindle a free repair out of the deal. As a compromise, I am willing to deduct $50.00 from the original invoice, however, I am still appalled that this report was filed or that this is even an issue.  The remaining $200.00 balance is due immediately. I’ve also attached a copy of the invoice (which at this point has cost me more in truck fuel, work time, materials and labor), and I request that this report be stricken from the Revdex.com reviews. I am rejecting this response because: other roofers did indeed give us estimates and we planned to compare.  another roofer came out the following day and saw what was done and told us that rubber is not meant to be nailed and that a quick fix was done and that it would not last long term.  we are not interested in a quick fix and we spoke with others who knew that rubber should never be nailed.  Also, we did not sign anything as is the case with EVERY OTHER ROOFER- present an estimate, get the owner's consent and then proceed.  Also, EVERY OTHER ROOFER came with a ladder and NO ONE said that it was too high.  We are not paying one cent AND we feel like he owes us for damaging the rubber roof which will now need to be sealed because of the nail holes.  So, how about giving us $50 rather than taking $50 off your shabby, unauthorized work!!!!!
