Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that the response would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.I am not okay with this response for a few reasons. The dress was not previously altered, the manufacturer cut the additional material so it could not be let out. I found this out after some investigating on my own. Kay is right, the dress could not be properly let out because of that issue. The dress was discounted because the owner of the store was moving (this does not mean it should be tailored any differently than a $5000 gown). The example that Kay showed me, was a piece of paper that was cut out into a keyhole shape. I was told that this keyhole would be the size of a balled up fist. I agreed to these as Kay is the "professional tailor" and reassured me that the dress would be perfect. I understand that Kay is unable to do all of the alterations on her own. With that being said, the person that was going to do the alterations on my gown, should have been the one taking the measurements in the first place, not Kay. The dress was too tight in my waist, which is where it needed to be let out. According to Kay, the keyhole was the only option to making the dress fit. Instead of cutting a small keyhole to start, they just cut a huge hole in my gown which made it way too big. In order to fix this issue, they put a seam in on each side of the zipper, in the back of the dress. The seams were so poorly done, that they pulled the appliques away from my gown and put holes in the material. I may also add, that the initial cuts were so crooked and mismatched, they couldn't be fixed. They also added hook and eyes which when hooked, they didn't even close that part of the dress. You can see this on the closeup of the back. Because the dress had been so poorly altered, we decided to go in and pick up my gown and leave. I did not want to leave the dress in their hands to let them chop, sew, or anything to attempt to fix my dress. I took my dress to another alterations gal and her suggestion was to use material from the hem and add it to the underneath side of the waist band to make it bigger, or better yet, use the material that was cut out to replace the hole and put appliques to cover the new seams. The material that was cut out by Carmel Tailoring was thrown away! I called around the world (because it is a Spanish designer) to find the material, but because it is a discontinued gown, I could not get the material. With that being said, my mother called Kay at Carmel Alterations and said because of the issue, would you be able to reimburse us for the gown since it is ruined and cannot be fixed? Kay responded with "I will have a check for you at 4:30 for $500. My mom went to the store around 1:30 and Kay refused the check and told my mom she can finish alterations for free or give us $500 off of a new gown. We most definitely would not have alterations finished, because I would have walked down the aisle at my wedding in a chopped up dress and we did not want to give them money toward a new gown. I since had to purchase a new gown because the one I previously purchased could not be fixed. All I am asking is for compensation of $500 for the dress I took in there. I am adding pictures of the gown before and after Carmel Tailoring started work on it.

CASE ID : [redacted]   To Whom It May Concern;   Here at Carmel Tailoring, we strive to give the best possible service to our customers. We apologize that Miss [redacted] had an unpleasant experience with us.  With that being said, we had kindly advised the customer there was no material...

to work with. Unknown to the customer, the dress may have been previously altered. We know this because upon inspection any extra material was cut out.  Since that material was cut out there was no room for the dress to be let out. We were told that the gown had be purchased at a very discounted rate. We showed some examples of options that could possibly help with the fitting. They had agreed to these suggestions.   We have three professional tailors that do the alterations, because Kay cannot do them all herself. Each tailor consults with her about each item to ensure the best quality possible.  In this situation, the dress was too tight on her bust, waist, and hips. We had informed the customer, because of the fit it would be impossible to alter this dress and keep the original style.  To allow for a proper fit, the keyhole had to be large enough to cover those areas. We only cut half an inch of fabric and removed the zipper. Since the gown was too small, the keyhole automatically separated to allow for room, and puckered. We offered a suggestion to correct the issue of it puckering without altering or removing any beadwork.     In a middle of a fitting, the customer would not allow us to make more adjustments and said she had another appointment with a tailor shop and she left with her dress without paying for any previous alterations.   Unfortunately, because they had requested the gown prior to the final alterations being completed, we could not complete the alterations. After visiting another tailor shop, [redacted]’s mother returned to our shop and demanded we write her a check. Although no money was exchanged, we offered other solutions and complimentary completed alterations, which was declined.
