Our Story: My wife and I have had two "stick-built" homes constructed prior to making the decision to go with a Modular Designed and Constructed home Our "stick-built" homes were well built but they were not "built great" I am a retired engineer and I was always inspecting with T-Square in one hand and Level in the other We often found ourselves asking contractors to do simply things such as: use three nails instead of one, to insulate more instead of less, to fill voids instead of leaving them open, to keep the place clean, to monitor their language and to show respect to our family members The biggest problem we had on each "stick-built" home was keeping the place dry The last home we built we ended up drilling holes in the floor to drain water from the house It was then that we agreed that we would only go with a "stick built" home as a last resort We spent a long time researching contractors and modular home builders Initially we had chosen a different company to build our modular home but, after seeing the quality of a Ritz Craft home we knew the direction we were going to go Ritz Craft builds a very good home and for the money I don't think you can get a better built home Our home has nine (9) foot ceilings with sixteen (16) inch on center studs, floor joists, ceiling rafters/beams and all other support locations All of the sheet rock walls are screwed (no nails), each 2xstud is screwed, glued and foamed in place We had extra insulation installed and when I say extra insulation I mean extra insulation I walk through this house with the same level and T-Square I used on previous homes and the walls are level and square This is the most well built home I have ever had built and believe me, that is saying a lot! Not Stressful or Challenging\r\nBuilding any home is stressful...even your dream home. Let's face it. So many things have to line up and go right to even start the build (20 years of planning for us after honeymooning in a log cabin).\r\nWorking with Bill S[redacted] in putting together our Gable Log Homes package was fun and satisfying, not stressful and challenging. One of the biggest reasons I selected Gable and Carolina Diversified Builders was the fact that I was working with my builder to get my package right...the opposite of their competitors. That was a huge plus for me because I knew this builder would not compromise their reputation on a sub-standard or surprise-ridden package. In this respect Gable/Carolina Diversified was delightfully different than the rest. Ritz Craft builds a very good home and for the money I don't think you can get a better built home. Our home has nine (9) foot ceilings with sixteen (16) inch on center studs, floor joists, ceiling rafters/beams and all other support locations. All of the sheet rock walls are screwed (no nails), each 2x4 stud is screwed, glued and foamed in place. We had extra insulation installed and when I say extra insulation I mean extra insulation. I walk through this house with the same level and T-Square I used on previous homes and the walls are level and square. This is the most well built home I have ever had built and believe me, that is saying a lot! I would put the construction and insulation of this home against the construction and insulation of any home within a 100 mile area.
While Ritz Craft does build an awesome home that, is only part of the equation. You have to have contractors that know what they are doing to put it all together. Without question the real work is what happens on the actual job site. I can say with absolute certainty that the key to our home's success is Carolina Diversified Builders. Bill S[redacted] sets the tone of this company along with the help and support of his son Daren and daughter Missy. Together they, with additional support of their sub-contractors and team members: James, Joe, Phillip and Randy form the absolute best team you could ask for. From beginning to end everyone knows their role and does their best to give you a home built by expert professionals. This team not only built a custom home for me they built an add-on second floor, they removed a bathroom for me and extended an open kitchen area, they built a two room garage for me with a 16 foot extended covered area, they built a covered walkway from my garage to my house and they built an 8 foot covered front porch for me with three sets of brick steps.
This team is without doubt the best I have ever had the pleasure of working with. Each team member knows his role and how best they can support the team as a whole. When you watch these guys work you know you are in good hands. Even when they don't know you are around, you are getting high quality workmanship. The guys work hard and they do not take extended breaks or extended lunch periods.
I cannot write a letter like this without giving Daren special recognition. Daren leads the field work and he is a master professional. Perhaps even more important is the fact that Daren loves the work he does and it shows. Additionally, Daren is an honest man with high moral integrity. A rare collection of traits in this day and age.

I am very pleased with the craftsmanship that the crew at Carolina Diversified Builders (CDB) used to construct a log cabin that I am truly proud to own. Over the past several months, I have enjoyed getting to know all of the crew at CBD and have come to appreciate their dedication to quality. I believe that the finished cabin is a work of art created by a team of highly professional hardworking artisans. The CBD team incorporated every detail that I requested to construct a cabin that is timeless in both it's beauty and durability.
