The purpose of this complaint is to protect potential customers from Carolina Flooring Company's unethical practices and poor estimate policyThe purpose of this complaint is to protect potential customers from Carolina Flooring Company's unethical practices. They provided an estimate via email, front page only. The flooring delivery man arrived and his dirty shoes tracked marks all over the carpet. When they arrived to remove hallway carpet and install flooring, they identified a hump which was not detected by the estimator and realized that they did not have the correct piece for finishing, which needed to be ordered. [redacted], the owner's wife, confirmed that there would be additional cost and I informed her that we proceeded with this project because it was within budget, so I would need to be advised of any cost increases. Two weeks later, the installers returned to install, which was a surprise because I never heard back from the company to discuss the estimate and they removed carpet and leveled the hump. Midday on onstall day, [redacted] sent me a revised estimate and let me know that the installers incorrectly cut the piece that needed to be ordered, so another installer would be out to finish the job. When my husband and I went upstairs to assess the situation, there were wood chips/slivers EVERYWHERE, wall dents and scrapes, flooring was uneven in one place, and nail heads were obvious in places where you should't see nail heads. The job could not be completed for several days, but upon review of my credit card statement, [redacted] charged the additional, fees to my credit card without authorization without discussion and before the work was complete. She lied to both my husband and myself, came to our home and blatently lied to us about her estimator, installers and the entire situation. Further, my neighbors saw the installers smoking in my front yard, they made my house smell horrible, used my bathroom, which I shut and asked them not to use. After a very heated discussion today with [redacted], we found Revdex.com complaints and [redacted] complaints with Carolina Flooring. I am hoping to raise awareness for other Raleigh residents to avoid this company at all cost.Desired SettlementWe requested a refund of $384, the additional amount charged, which was unauthorized, but this was not granted by [redacted] at Carolina Flooring.Business Response The original estimate was on May 01, 2013. There estimate front and back page of terms and conditions was emailed to them on 5/3/13 both were sent as attachments. We maintain all original emails to and from clients for up to 25 years based on the work performed and materials used. Therefore all of the client's correspondence is on file in our electronic system. These dispute her facts as being erroneous and a fabrication. The client contacted us on 11/05/13 inquiring if the estimated price was still good. In her email request the exact same attachments were still on her email inquiry as she simply sent it as a reply to our original email and did not send a separate original email of her own. The project was scheduled and the deposit paid by credit card. Upon delivery product is normally placed downstairs, the client on site insisted to place it upstairs even after he expressed "it is never done that way". She insisted, he complied and the request had an impact. She reported to our office a complaint about soiled carpet, we agreed to pay for cleaning it, which she set at a cost of $50 and we credited that. During the original appointment 5/1/13 the estimator pointed out the stair nose in the hall is normally replaced for the new flooring, as the original nosing was placed for carpet. The customer wanted instead to keep the original nosing in order to reduce the expense and connect the new wood to that original nosing. When our installers arrived on time, on the date scheduled, 12/13/13 and because the client had previously requested not to change it, we had no nosing nor was there a charge in the estimate for it.I discussed this with the client and I after her reviewing the area with our installers they explained it would require two-stair nose's to meet her request to keep it to a minimum, again prior to exposing the sub floor. The client requested us instead to only put one stair nose across the steps and just meet on the other side. I explained it would look unfinished. It would not look correct and I would prefer to do it correctly. Again, in an effort to assist I stated we would only charge her the cost of the nosing, as it is a custom piece not a standard item. She was advised of the approximate cost and she agreed. We ordered the nosing. Our installers also reviewed the rest of the project, noticed a hump in the hall.Once this was shown to the client it was explained that until the carpet and pad were removed we wouldn't know exactly the corrective requirement or how to cost it.She saw the problem, stated she thought it was covered in the estimate. I responded that it was not and that her estimate information outlined this potential. I asked her if she had read the information sheet in the original email estimate attachments. She indicated she had not and would look them over. (See estimate statement about this issue in the information originally provided which states;)On the estimate in the terms and conditions it clearly states: SUBFLOOR VARIANCES OR DAMAGE if not identified on the estimate, is unforeseen. CAROLINA FLOORING will price this work for CUSTOMER if needed. Installers are not authorized to quote pricing on these items. This issue is not visible at the time of the estimate. CAROLINA FLOORING will contact CUSTOMER for approval if additional work is required. CUSTOMER is responsible to provide us with all contact phone numbers prior to the installation so we may communicate. If CUSTOMER is not available to CAROLINA FLOORING, CUSTOMER pre-authorizes any additional work, up to a limit of $450.00 to avoid delays in completing the flooring. Delayed completion time due to any additional sub floor repairs may be unavoidable. Initial Sub floor surface repairs are for items we can see. If multiple layers exist, lower sub floor areas may reveal additional repairs such as rot and will be priced separately. We rescheduled the project with an additional day to insure completion, and per my discussion with her we agreed to move her install date and not leave her at Christmas time with her carpet removed, she agreed and now is complains about delays. We reschedule her install for 1/2/14 & 1/3/14. On 1/2/14 our installers arrived. There was no one home. We tried to phone and we sent an email attempting to make contact. She finally called and indicated she didn't know we were supposed to be there that day and she had a doctor's appointment. I informed her that it was she that previously had set those exact dates. So because of her no show, it would be rescheduled again, instead she had her father come and let us in.We proceeded, identified the sub floor variance and I attempted to reach her to discuss the now known costs and only got voicemail, I left her a message to call. So we waited, I called two more times unanswered, and we proceeded under our estimate terms and conditions, which clearly states; and emailed her an updated invoice. If CUSTOMER is not available to CAROLINA FLOORING, CUSTOMER pre-authorizes any additional work, up to a limit of $450.00 to avoid delays in completing the flooring. Delayed completion time due to any additional sub floor repairs may be unavoidable. On the second morning the installers were trying to work out the odd configuration of the builders existing stair nose. This again at client's insistence to be done without removing the post and existing nosing. The installer cut the new nose and then prepared to remove the lower nose under the original carpet. While removing the lower nose the small existing nose under the post broke because it only had brad nails in it and had been improperly installed at the time of construction. Since our new nose had prepared and cut the only way to install the area properly would require the post be taken down and the nosing under it to be replaced, and now make another new nosing longer and install it under the post and run it further. When I called to inform the client what had happened and why and that our installers could show her and explain the situation instead of seeing onsite the construction facts she became emotional ballistic to me and the installers who were attempting to have her see that the construction we were dealing with created the issue. She finally indicated she wanted it finished, so we completed the hall wood and ordered a new nosing and schedule another installer to come out late that day to review and tried to schedule completion on Saturday the very next day and because of personal conflicts the client refused that day and we were forced into the following Thursday to allow completion. After the installers left that day, the client called me, she said the floor looked great but ranting about the nosing not being finished. We had installed a temporary nose for safety but we were forced again to make a nosing as indicated above.I was asked to come to the home by the husband on the day scheduled to complete, I went we reviewed the flooring, and the clients were abusive and I left. Our installer was put on hold while we were in contact with the clients by phone text at which point they were asked whether we were to complete the project or not, they responded to do so, we did and their parting comment to our installer was that everything looked great.I have photos of this site and the work completion available to anyone who wishes to see them.As far as charging the credit card for payment again on the original submitted terms and conditions it clearly states; DEPOSIT'S and PAYMENTS; A 60% minimum deposit of the total estimate is due upon CUSTOMERS instructions to set a date for installation. If the total project is under 2,000.00 the deposit is the project amount. This deposit is non-refundable if CUSTOMER cancels the installation. CAROLINA FLOORING orders the material when deposits are placed to avoid manufacturing and or distributor delays. Re-stocking, and shipping fees are high from distributors. A cancellation requires that CUSTOMER forfeit deposits, or re-schedule the installation within 90 days or applies the balance after fees to another flooring choice. The Balance of payment(s) including any additional costs incurred or other Additional work authorizedverbally by CUSTOMER is due upon the flooring installation. Use of a Credit Card, Debit Card or Financing to pay deposits or balances associated with installing CUSTOMER'S flooring including all items noted herein, is pre-authorized by CUSTOMER and may be Charged to CUSTOMER'S Credit Card, Debit Card or financing account, by CAROLINA FLOORING upon completion as stated herein. Balances not paid as agreed, past installation date will incur interest charges of 1.9% per month of the unpaid balance. In addition we also deducted 100.00 from the invoice in attempt to appease her behavior. The accusations and comments made by this client are

I paid $6800 to Carolina Flooring. They have not installed the floor or called me back after 24 calls. They refused my letters. I want my money back. I have been trying to make contact with [redacted] owner of Carolina Flooring since 12/10/15 in an attempt to get my deposit money returned. I have visited the show room / office on 3 separate occasions and called more that 2 dozen times. I have spoken to his daughter [redacted] his wife [redacted] and the estimator [redacted] Only to be told that I needed to talk to [redacted] for a refund. I left dozens of messages for him to please return my call. He has never made any attempt to call and settle my complaint. I sent certified letter to the Company and they refused it on 2/4/16. They never completed any job or installed the flooring I purchased but they have kept my money. I handed to Mr. [redacted] personally a check for $6800.00 on 12/4/15. That is the amount he requested I deposit with his company Carolina Flooring. I came in and met with him and I was happy to comply and the funds cleared my account to be sent to his bank. Carolina Flooring sent one employee on 12/10/15 to install the engineered wood flooring I purchased to be installed at [redacted] Their worker was unsure how he would install the flooring on the concrete slab. He was marking the floor with circles. Unknown to me the worker had contacted another team to stop by and look at the job. They walked in, looked at the floor and told me it would cost an additional $5500 labor and materials to install the flooring. I was shocked and said I needed to talk to [redacted], and they all left. Leaving 15 boxes of wood and two 5 gallon buckets of glue in the middle of the house. That was $5500.00 above the original estimate I received from Carolina Flooring company for materials and labor. I called the office but [redacted] would not get on the phone. I was confused with what had just happened. Remember he had sent a professional estimator [redacted] to look at the job. That was when she measured and put together the estimate. I was told by her the job was an easy install. The advisor [redacted] did not make me aware of any irregularity with the floor. Please note the room was empty and the floor was not covered with anything. The estimator was able to see all areas of the sub floor for the job that needed installation. They were to do 3 jobs for me total $11,376. I gave to [redacted] in person a deposit check in the amount of $6,800.00. This is the only time he met with me. Now he is never in the office. They only delivered the wood flooring for the first of the 3 jobs and did not finish any installation. I fired them on 12/21/15 for any of the other work I wanted but have been unable to get a refund of my deposit money or and return calls or correspondence. They owe me $5050.00Desired SettlementRevdex.com, Please contact Carolina Flooring with my complaint. I would request you help to resolve the problem with the owner refusing to take my calls or here my complaint. I ask the Revdex.com to help me get my money back.
