Caroll's Custom Sewing Reviews (%countItem)

I had contacted Caroll regarding 6 panels of curtains. I told her I would need them in a week to 10 days. She agreed to complete them in this time and to charge $20 per hour for her work and left $50 for deposit. I called her one week later, and she hadn't even started the curtains: consider that this is about 3 hours of work in total. She said she would call me back with the information on completion the next days and didn't. When I called her, she said she can't refuse new work and that hemming curtains is a lot of work. I said that I can take the material to someone else who can do this. She said she would call me back once the curtains are done. She called back the next day, saying that she wants an additional $370 for the work on the curtains. I asked her if she had spent 21 hours on this and she said yes. I told her that this is an exorbitant price and she said "Well if you want them, that's how much you're going to have to pay." I asked to meet and come to a solution, bu she has ignored my phone calls and the note I left at her business. She still has the material, the $50 and the curtain rod she requested for measuring.
Product_Or_Service: Curtains

Desired Outcome

Refund I would like my material, curtain rod and $50 back.

Caroll's Custom Sewing Response • Nov 30, 2018

In response to your letter of Nov 9, 2018, which I received on November 19, 2018, due to a mail strike, my reply it as follows:

*** asked me to make sheer curtains for a house that she was selling. She gave me a deposit of $50 and I gave her a receipt dated October 11, 2018. Nothing was said about a deadline; however, I knew she wanted them quite soon. I always have a backlog of work, so two weeks even for a small altercation job is customary. I do all custom work and my work takes time. I work alone. She called me and was very angry and abusive. She said it had been over two weeks and why weren't the curtains done. She said she would pick them up and get someone else to finish them. I told her that was fine, but that she would have to pay for the work done thus far.

She did not come to pick up the curtains - I continued working skipping lunch.

The curtains were finished one day less than two weeks on October 24th. I called called to let her know immediately.

She said she did not have access to a car. She said my price was outrageous, keep them.

Please keep in mind that I was given six panels roughly cut from the fabric store. The fabric has to be lined up on a table so that they can be evenly cut at the top. Sheers like to move around so it takes time. The bottoms also have to be marked and cut moving them across the table. This is not the way it is customarily done. The fabric is usually brought to me all in one piece, consequently, the next piece is already evenly cut at the top and only the bottom needs to be cut, and the next one and the next one.

There was not enough material for a double top and bottom hem, so again, it took longer.

The panels were as follows in size:
2 panels - 155" finished length
2 panels - 42" finished length
2 panels - 93" finished length

I allowed her to pay a deposit of only $50. The balance was to be paid at the time of completion at a rate of $20/hr.

She said my price was outrageous and she would come pick up the curtains for what she wanted pay.

She put a note in my door as follows:
Dear ***
You have my curtains and my curtain rod. Call me ASAP to resolve this amicably, otherwise, I am calling the police.
***
***

Incidentally what she left was part of a curtain rod and yes it does belong to her.

I got her receipt ready and dated it October 24, 2018. The Police Officer did not come. All she had to do wasd pay the balance due of $370 for the 24 hours I spent making her curtains.

That is what she agreed to. I have an answering service so that she could leave a message anytime.

It is however, my policy that I do not have to respond to abusive phone calls.

After writing this lengthy letter I have decided to give *** the curtains which took 21 hours to make and the rod, which, as I said, it hers. The deposit however, is my only protection against customers lake *** who choose not to pay their bill.

She can contact the Revdex.com with the day and time she wishes to pick up the curtains and rod. I will put them on my front porch for her.

My phone number is ***. Please leave a message if I do not get to the phone. Thank you.
