September 7, 2017This is in response to your letter dated 8/31/re: complaint ID ***.Let me start by saying that I am truly disappointed that a customer I worked very hard for and went above and beyond what was expected of me felt he had to contact you, but as I'm sure you are aware there
are sides to every story.First of all, he caused the following:-delays due to materials either coming in wrong or not on time -that cost my company money which I never billed him for-I was to build according to the prints provided, and had I done that it would have causedproblems because the plans did not work...but I did the right thing and again, did not charge him for it.Feeling sorry for him, I personally picked up material he needed and also returned material with my own truck to save him money, but apparently that was not appreciated.I also met with the building inspector who told me that it was a good frameIf there were problems, why were they not documented in writing and given to me to correct?He claims he was unhappy on 8/3/17, why then did he pay me on and say everything was OK.Below are examples of things I did that were not part of the original plans:Adding windows next to the fireplace; Framing of stairs from 1st floor to 2nd floor; Removal of all existing sheetrock in kitchen and living room; Construction of basement wall due to alteration of given construction plans; Jacking up of existing floor area also due to altered construction plansI told him the above items were extras that amounted to $which he agreed to pay for but never came up with the money.Therefore there is $2K left on the original contract for the decks I didn't do, and $2.4K that he owes meWhy would I go back and do the decks when he refused to pay for the work II did.This home owner is taking it upon himself to be his own GC (general contractor) and is going through a learning curveHe is definitely making mistakes and it appears he is trying to get his sub contractors to pay for them.At this point I no longer desire to work on this jobHe can use the $2K left in my original contract to hire someone else to do his decksI truly hope he is man enough to pay the $he owes me, and if not I will have to pursue payment through legal means.Sincerely,John N
