To address the patient’s concerns in regards to our treatment, here is a summary of what happened at his appointment with us on 8/27/2015.M [redacted] was referred to our office by his general dentist, Johnson Family DentalHe was referred to our practice, which is a specialty oral surgery group, to evaluate his wisdom teeth for removal. He brought in x-rays from his dentist, however, these x-rays were individual PA'sWe need a full mouth panorex to even evaluate removing wisdom teethWe advised to the patient that we needed to take a panorex to even perform a consultation for extracting his wisdom teeth.DrM [redacted] performed a consultation, which involves overview of medical history, etcHe also looked at M***'s xray and we put together to different treatment plans for him: 1) a cost of his panorex x-ray and consultation; 2) for the cost of the wisdom teeth surgeryHe asked us to send a preauthorization to his insurance, which we also took care of for himWe did not charge him on the day that he was in our office for the consultation or x-ray, rather we told him we would submit the charges to his insurance, and that they would most l***ly cover his consultation and x-ray fees.M [redacted] is now disputing his balance of $here, which is the cost of his panorex x-ray that we needed to see his wisdom teethUnfortunately, M [redacted] had already gone over the allowable amount of x-rays for the covered time period and his panorex was not a covered benefitA panorex was a necessary component for DrM [redacted] to appropriately look at and diagnose wisdom teeth extractionThis was explained to the patient while he was in for his consultationHe also left our office that day with a walkout statement that indicated the cost of both the x-ray and the consultation feeEvery patient’s account is ultimately their responsibility and we communicate and bill insurance for our patients as a courtesy.Dr [redacted] M [redacted] VC Oral and Facial Surgery

In this letter we would again, as a practice, like to address the complaint from our patient M*** ***Mike is still not in understanding of what type of x-rays are needed by an oral surgeon to safely remove wisdom teethWe do not consult wisdom teeth consultations, which is what M*** *** was considered when saw him on 8/27/15, without first having a PANORAMIC x-ray to viewWe do not accept individual PA films from a general dentist because they do not show wisdom teeth with the rootsIt would be completely unsafe for both doctor and patient to remove wisdom without a full mouth panoramic x-rayM*** *** came to our office on 8/27/with small PA x-rays from his general dentistWe informed him that, in order for us to evaluate his wisdom teeth, we would need to take a full panoramic x-ray to see theseIf Mike was objected to this, he could have declined his x-ray with us and we would not have taken him backInstead, we explained we needed a panoramic x-ray, he agreed and we took itHopefully Mike now is better able to understand that there is a big difference between the x-rays a general dentist takes, and a panoramic x-ray taken at an oral surgeon’s officeWe understand that this is sometimes confusing to patientsUnfortunately Mike had already maxed out on his allowable amount of x-rays for the year, per his insuranceWe do not ever make promises to patients about what insurance will or will not cover, as that is an impossible thing to doThere may be outstanding claims against a patients insurance that our office is not aware of when we submit a claim, which is why there is no definitive way to give a patient an exact amount of what their insurance will cover or not cover

I was assured by the clerk at the counter that my insurance would cover itIf I had known in full detail that it didn't I wouldn't have waited to see the full amountI provided excellent copies of my x raysI am assured I was just scammed to get x rays takenI will not be paying the amountThe fact of the matter, they are practicing very shady business practicesAssuring things will be paid for, rushing the client in just for minutes of talking and rushing them out like cattleI know what my pain was when I arrived and I had already dental x rays done by another serviceWhy would I request another service (x rays ) if I had one alreadyThat doesn't make a lick of sense

evaluate his wisdom teeth for removal. He brought in x-rays from his dentist, however, these x-rays were individual PA's. We need a full mouth panorex to even evaluate removing wisdom teeth. We advised to the patient that we needed to take a panorex to even perform a consultation for extracting his wisdom teeth.Dr. M[redacted] performed a consultation, which involves overview of medical history, etc. He also looked at M[redacted]'s xray and we put together to different treatment plans for him: 1) a cost of his panorex x-ray and consultation; 2) for the cost of the wisdom teeth surgery. He asked us to send a preauthorization to his insurance, which we also took care of for him. We did not charge him on the day that he was in our office for the consultation or x-ray, rather we told him we would submit the charges to his insurance, and that they would most l[redacted]ly cover his consultation and x-ray fees.M[redacted] is now disputing his balance of $121 here, which is the cost of his panorex x-ray that we needed to see his wisdom teeth. Unfortunately, M[redacted] had already gone over the allowable amount of x-rays for the covered time period and his panorex was not a covered benefit. A panorex was a necessary component for Dr. M[redacted] to appropriately look at and diagnose wisdom teeth extraction. This was explained to the patient while he was in for his consultation. He also left our office that day with a walkout statement that indicated the cost of both the x-ray and the consultation fee. Every patient’s account is ultimately their responsibility and we communicate and bill insurance for our patients as a courtesy.Dr. [redacted]VC Oral and Facial Surgery

When did taking advantage of someone and rushing them without fully answering questions become acceptable answer.
