Applied for a loan to renovate my pool. REASONS FOR DENIAL. The factor(s) below are the reason(s) for this denial: Current income does not meet the minimum loan guidelines

However, when we called to inquire how much income you would require to borrow $21,000 to be paid back over the course of 6 years.... you told us that was NOT the case. You weren't approving our loan because we are self employed.

We were also told that because we pay our bills on time and pay off early, you won't make enough money on our loan!

Great way to do business!!!

Financed car through CFCU, had my account wrongfully depleted, don't feel that their "resolution" was right.
In March 2016 I purchased a 2013 Nissan Altima which I financed through Carter Federal. (Member ***, #XXXXXXXX; loan #154) On July 12, 2019, I received a call from *** of CFCU who stated that my car payment was overdue. It was auto drafted out of my husband's savings account, and we put in $260/month which covered the payment. She then explained that in October 2017, we had "let our insurance lapse" and insurance was being purchased for us as a result. They were taking out $299.44/month. After 21 months of taking out extra money, they depleted $1899 from the account. This was the first notification we had of this change to our account, or to the fact that our insurance had "lapsed". That day I provided her proof of insurance from the purchase date of the car through the present insurance cycle. I was then instructed that once it went through review we would not, in fact, have the money restored to the account, but that it would be applied to the principle of the loan. That was done on 7/18/19. On 7/22/19 I paid off the loan in its entirety, and closed the account. ON August 10, 2019 I received three past due notices on this account dated 7/2/19, 7/9/19, and 7/16/19. This were posted on 8/7/19. My account was wrongfully depleted, and I feel that not only should my account have been restored (not putting the money on the principle of the loan), but I should have been restored the lost interest which had not been accrued. Had I been notified in October 2017, extra money would not have been taken out and the problem could have easily been rectified. Ms. and *** are both unable to give me any answers as to why I was not contacted, why it went on for so long, and why after I have paid off and closed the account I have received past due notices. Nor were either of them able or willing to restore my account. Their explanation was "that is just how it is done". I understand that if I had done anything wrong, but the error was in October 2017 just that-an error. After the 21 months they let it go on without contact to me I don't feel it is an error anymore and I feel that money, and its interest should have been returned to my account.

Desired Outcome

Since I have paid off the account in full, I would like to know if what they did was in fact legal, and if restitution of the interest that should have been building during that time can be obtained. I am really unsure that anything can be done, however this is poor business practice on the part of Carter Federal in regards to the amount of time this was allowed to continue. I am angry about the whole situation, but I find it unfair that the "savings" part of the account was not returned to me to do with as I wish. As a result of their poor business practice, I was "forced" to apply that to the loan instead of continuing to pay it off monthly, which I was doing originally by depositing the payment due through payroll deduction. I also am unhappy about the fact that I received past due notices AFTER I have paid off the loan and closed the account. As a result of that, I would like to obtain the title to the car, and then no longer be contacted by Carter Federal.

Carter Credit Union Response • Sep 10, 2019

I have reviewed the records and found that Carter Credit Union did nothing wrong related to this case and precisely followed the contract that our member signed to get a loan. Regardless, In this case, we are reaching out to the member to see if we can reach an agreement and have them cancel the complaint. We did not want you to think that we were ignoring the complaint due to our response extending past the deadline date. Thanks. ***

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
My problem is not with the fact that the money was applied to the principle of the loan. My problem was the fact that I was NOT NOTIFIED until the money in the account ran out 21 months later, yet I was still penalized. I DID NOT let my insurance lapse at any time from the car's purchase until I received their phone call stating that there was no money in the account, and was not at any time notified that they were purchasing additional insurance for the car. I did nothing wrong on my end, and sent them irrefutable evidence of no lapse of insurance on the same day of their first notification to me in July. I also have not been contacted regarding their asking us to cancel the complaint. I will not cancel my complaint.

I got a secured credit card with Carter to build my credit. I had good credit to begin with and now 2 years later they still will not reimburse me the amount put down for the credit card. I have constantly had problems with this bank ex: shared branching constantly down, online banking i.e. paying my credit card is a complete hassle and the list goes on. I have a form of income through the military that they will not accept and it is completely frustrating that I cannot make my card unsecured. If I have always paid on time and kept a good credit score then what is the problem?

Worst bank every, I got a secured credit card with them to rebuild my credit. Pay on time every month they still check my credit, what part don't you get REBUILD CREDIT! An they refuse to give unsecured card went to another bank approved on spot. Getting rid of this bank soon.

Carter Federal Credit Union assists individuals with building or restoring credit by extending loans through our Credit Builder loan program. These are deposit secured loans to limit the risk of loan loss exposure on a higher risk borrower. Once full payment of the loan is complete, or during the current term of the Credit Builder loan, a member can choose to apply to convert a deposit secured Credit Builder loan into an Unsecured loan. At which time the guidelines for the decision of an unsecured loan will be imposed. Carter Federal Credit Union's unsecured loans are underwritten according to NCUA (National Credit Union Administration) standards and Carter Federal Credit Union Board of Directors approved policies. Under these criteria, individuals must demonstrate the ability and willingness to pay a debt incurred without placing collateral on hold to protect the loan. Carter Federal Credit Union cannot disclose the specifics of Ms. banking matters per our member privacy policy.

Thank you Revdex.com same as before.

Agreed to refinance my vehicle for 36 months dating from Mar 2015 to Feb 2018, I was bait and switched to a hidden $3000+ fee without any notification.
Refinanced my 2009 Toyota Camry through Carter Federal Credit union in 2/27/2105 and my final payment should have been due on March 1st of 2018. However, I have recently been be charged for a CPI on my vehicle because they claim my car was never insured during the 3 years I've been financing through them. I've provided them with all of my car insurance documentation proving that my car was in fact insured but for some reason, I still have a $3000+ balance when I should have a zero balance and I've been in constant contact but they cannot give me a straight answer and I do not feel that it is right that I am spending considerate portions of my day waiting on hold over the phone as well as fear of having my credit score damaged because of a mistake on their end.

Desired Outcome

I do not feel that I'm being fairly treated because I feel that I've been hit with a bait and switch tactic. I want my balance set to zero and I wish to stop receiving letter claiming I owe money when at this point, they now owe me money.

We are in receipt of the letter from the Revdex.com to Carter Federal Credit Union regarding a complaint by Christopher Michael Kowalew case number 14024455. Due to federal privacy laws we cannot divulge the details of why Mr. Kowalew had forced placed insurance placed on the vehicle he purchased from Carter Federal Credit Union. We have mailed Mr. Kowalew proof of where he agreed to have force placed insurance placed on the collateral for his loan if certain conditions were not met. We have also mailed Mr. Kowalew the reasons why the forced insurance was placed. Since we have provided Mr. Kowalew copies of the related documents, we consider the matter of this complaint closed. David Smith, Internal Auditor, Carter Federal Credit Union.

Carter Federal Credit Union placed an erroneous 30 day late on my credit report with Transunion.
In November of 2017, I received notification that there was a 30 day late for March's payment. When in fact I was not 30 or more days late AND made a double payment. I disputed twice with Transunion and Carter keeps saying I am late to transunion but denies this to me via email. I corresponded with Cherae Thompson and twice she has told me that she does not know why it is there but has refused to resolve the issue for me.

Desired Outcome

The 30-day late for March 2017 is false and needs to be removed immediately.

Carter Credit Union Response • Jan 31, 2018

Carter Federal Credit Union shows on our system that the member was not 30 days late on her payment. We agree with the person making the complaint that she was not 30 days late on a payment and have told her so. We did not send Transunion information that she was 30 days late as the person complaining has stated in her complaint. Transunion made a posting error and only they can fix it. We told the person making the complaint that if she would call Transunion and file a dispute with them they will start the process of correcting their error. The person finally called Transunion and Transunion fixed their posting error. We have received a report from Transunion that the person's credit history has been corrected. We cannot send you this report as proof as it has detailed personal banking information on it, but the case should now be closed as Transunion has corrected the error the person was complaining about. This was never something Carter Federal Could fix. We consider this case to be closed since Transunion has removed the derogatory statement from the person's credit history that they had placed there in error.
