Review: Carrter's Home Improvement LLC , I hired after finding him on the Revdex.com with a A+ rating!

He was suppose to do a garage remodel, which consisted of insulation and wall board, fix ceiling which consisted of re tape and mud. build shelves and paint everything including the floor.

After I thought he was done, I told him the garage ceiling was coming undone where he taped and that his paint job was very blotchy looking.

He came back in re-taped and spot painted again. Got paint all over newly painted floor. Also said he was going to add heat so everything would dry properly. No, he never did. And the ceiling you can see where he painted and where he didn't paint. Same old mess job!

He was a very sloppy worker, never cleaned up after himself. Cigarette butts and spilled coffee, I had to clean up everyday after him. Always had an excuse for everything and lied all the way through the job. For example I brought to his attention where he did a bad job on the wall board (it was bulging out and had bubbles in it) he says its the way the house was build...

I paid $2,456.00 for this miserable work. Charged me extra $60. for a small amount of trim for a small window and door (said it wasn't in our contract).

Will have to hire someone else to come in and fix his crappy workmanship!Desired Settlement: If he can't fix the job properly, then I feel he should give back some of the $2,456 that I paid him, so I can hire someone to fix it !

Response:

In response to this complaint-customer hired me to repair 2 cracks in ceiling, I repaired 3. did not charge for the third. Install drywall on 2 walls, I did 3. Did not charge for the third. Paint walls & ceiling, etch & paint floor, build suspended shelves & install light fixture. This job was for drywall & paint-not a full remodel. I returned the next work day after she complained about one of the cracks, whereupon the son came out and proceeded to scream at me about little issues that I was taking care of. When I tried to explain about the bow in the wall, he became more abusive until his mother pushed him back into the house. The wall will bow, I explained because I can only attach the drywall to the existing structure, it will bow if the wall has a bow in it. I was not hired to rebuild the wall. Absolutely nothing I can do about that. I re-painted with a tarp on the newly painted floor & did NOT get any paint on the floor. A heater was used to dry the mud. I did not smoke on the job site, but her son did with coffee in hand. Don't know what I would lie about, all I'd say was good morning. Because they don't know or understand construction, does not mean I lied. Complaining about small charge for trimming out door & window? It was not part of the contract. How much do they want done for free? I drywalled a third wall, I repaired additional cracks & holes, I replaced a light switch, installed new face plates on all outlets &a switches, returned freezer & bigger objects back into the garage upon completion all at no charge. Furthermore, I let her use a locked cargo trailer of mine to store her things for free. Whereupon, garbage was left & keys were never returned. So much for trying to please the customer. [redacted], watch for my bill in the mail for all the extras & use of the trailer. I checked on prices with storage units & that will be at least $300. If in fact, something that I was actually hired for, is not within code, call me. We'll compare what it looks like now to the pictures I took when I finished the job.Sent from my iPad[redacted]

Review: The trim work in our kitchen is shoddy and incomplete. A list follows:

- most grout work is sloppy

- trim work on baseboard around door not mitered and doesn't match.

- wooden kick plate under some cabinets is not there.

- our bar is too high (50"). As a professional he should have known it was too high.Desired Settlement: We want a refund check for $1,000.00.

We gave him 2 chances to fix the above repairs (except for bar) and he didn't.

We want someone else do the work.

We feel $1,000.00 is a fair amount to have someone else complete this work.

Response:

I will touch on the points she made.

1 trim work incomplete and shoddy-we used left over existing trim that was cut cut off the wall for the new opening. There was not enough so we used matching floor trim.

I contacted this guy from word of mouth. I was currently out of town when we signed the contract. This was nov 25th 2013. He quoted us $5200 to replace and fix exixting water damage to my bay window. We were told we had to put half down before the job started. I worked out of town until dec 29th. For that period of time [redacted] never called or stopped over about the job. On my journey home from working out of town [redacted] called and said windows were still a month out and that he would start soon. [redacted] showed up on jan 29th and then decided to start the work. I told him no. It was -19 degrees outside and he decided to start opening my house to the elements. To make a long story short I told [redacted] that I would buy the windows from him at ten percent over the cost of the windows($785 cost on windows). And that I would expect the rest of the down payment. He told me we had a contract and that he was going to charge us more. After 3 months if phone tag with this guy he finally gave us a check for$425 dollars. My wife went to cash the check and it bounced. Not once not twice not three times in four weeks. We waited about two and a half weeks and tried it again. Alas it went through. Moral to the story....This guy of a crappy businessmen. And furthermore I think he is a thief

Carter Home Improvement recently finished some work on a kitchen remodel for me. They provided a detailed initial estimate including prices for labor and materials, and followed that estimate. I was very impressed with the quality and work performed, including painting walls and ceilings, updating electric, installing ceiling light fixtures. They ordered and installed quartz counter tops, installed sinks, added kitchen light fixtures, built kitchen island, demolished old island and finished/plastered walls. They also installed ceiling molding. Mr Carter and his workers were prompt, arrived when promised and cleaned up the work area. I felt that I received good quality work for a decent price. I would highly recommend this company, and would use their service again.
