Cascade Mountain Reviews (2)

Review: My family and I came for our very first visit to Cascade Mountain Saturday night. We came for the tubing and paid $94.50 for a party of 6.

We feel cheated by the business. The business was only "partially" opened, the staff unprofessional, and the price we paid was for a full, functioning event, which did not happen.

It was a horrible experience. The tubing staff at the bottom of the magic carpet and the staff at the top were unprofessional and seemed to actually hate being there.

Our party consisted of 2 parents, 3 college kids and a 9th grader.

There were only 2 runs open for tubing and they mainly consisted of young children tired, and crying and whose parents made them go down the hill. There were 4 runs available. When we paid the full price, nobody at Cascade told us the lines would be longer, the tubing was only partially open for business, and they charged the full fair. (For the 5-10pm session of $15.00). There also were no signs that there would be delays on the magic carpet to go to the top of the tubing hill.

We were constantly separated on the magic carpet. In fact the UW Stout male employee told my daughter, "I can hold this stick as long as I want to." So we didn't get to ride up as family, because the 2 closed lanes at the top of the tubing hill were closed and they didn't want a bottleneck. This was AFTER we paid and were not informed that 50% of the tube lanes were closed.

Additionally, the Spanish girl at the top of the magic carpet actually stopped the magic carpet ride on me, a grown male, because I wanted to talk to my family, be closer to them, because it was a family event I paid a lot of money for and she didn't like that I was trying to be close to them so we could tube together.

I sat on the stopped belt for MORE than 10 minutes. It was like they enjoyed the control.

When my wife asked this same Spanish female employee to push her down the hill, (because it was her turn to be at the top of the tubing hill to work), she barely pushed my wife, and again, grumbled and moaned.

It was a terrible experience and I would like my money back. We only tubed 2 hours and left because we couldn't stand it anymore.

So disappointing.

Families should get to stay together on the magic carpet and on the tubing hill and consumers should be told that only part of the ride is open, and that price should be adjusted based on that.

It also might be a good idea to have young children, under 7 have their own hill and if a child is crying (there were several) they should not be forced down.

And you need to hire people who want to engage and be there so it is enjoyable for your guests.Desired Settlement: I would like my $94.50 credited back to my debit card or refunded back in the mail

Although we have no record of a complaint from the [redacted] group at our facility on January 13th, we are willing to refund [redacted] in full. Please either scan and email your receipt to me, or fax it to [redacted], or mail it to my attention at: Cascade Mountain, [redacted], WI.

Review: On 2/1/2014, I purchased lunch items at Cascade's main dining area. Several items were advertised at a certain price, but I was then charged more at checkout. I asked the cashier about the discrepancy and was told that the prices on the sign were incorrect and that the prices charged were correct. I said that it's not ok to advertise a different price than what you intend to charge and asked to speak with a manager. He directed me to the food counter and to ask to speak with the manager. [redacted] (identified herself as the mgr) told me that the prices were different this year due to taxes. I pointed out that some items were priced accurately, but others were not. She said that taxes were rounded and changes in tax rates affect some items, but not others. Another employee came over and said that if their signs were changed every year due to changes in tax rate, it would cost hundreds of dollars.

It is not OK to round tax charged to the consumer and it is not OK to charge a price different from what is advertised. Unfortunately, providing an accurate price is a cost of doing business.

Discrepancies experienced:

Cheeseburger advertised as $4.75, but charged $5

Cheese curds advertised as $5.75, but charged $6

We purchased 2 cheeseburgers and 1 order of cheese curds for a total overcharge of $0.75Desired Settlement: Please refund the $0.75 overcharge via mailed check and update food pricing signs.

Response:

There are no discrepancies between the menu price and the cash register price. We are required by Wisconsin law to collect sales tax on prepared food. We choose not to handle pennies, nickels or dimes, so we round the tax DOWN to the nearest quarter and Cascade makes up the difference out of our pocket. An item with sales tax less than 25 cents is not charged sales tax here. Add 5.5% sales tax to the price advertised and you get what Allison paid for her food. The answer Paige gave to Allison was totally inaccurate; the menu prices are all accurate.

I ask that this complaint be dismissed and not even published on your website as a “resolved problem”.
