Hi - I appreciated your time today as we discussed my complaint regarding Cass Construction As per our discussion, I have attached a copy of our contract herein The issues as I see them:Refinishing the trim throughout the entire house (sand, paint, prime)Laying new hardwood floorsSanding all new and existing hardwood floorsSanding, staining, refinishing stairway and railing postRefinishing the trim throughout the entire house (sand, paint, prime) - Cass Construction completed the trim refinish of the upstairs only They did not perform any work on the trim work downstairs 50% of the work was left unfinished In order to complete this work, I had to pay a painter $2,to come in and finish the work left incomplete in the main level.Laying new hardwood floors - Cass Construction was responsible for laying hardwood floors in bedrooms, a hallway, and a staircase landing I have found there to be several issues with the work completed by Cass on this job 1) In the Master Bedroom Cass laid two pieces of hardwood flooring that (either after or before laying) became twisted I had asked Cass to replace these hardwood planks with new planks whereas he indicated that they were fine and he would be able to fix them through "wood filler and sanding" These planks had to be replaced by a specialized contractor (images attached) 2) Cass indicated that the hardwood floors did not need to run across the floor joist; whereas the specialized contractor who came in advised that they should have been run properly with the floor joist (this problem is too late to fix) 3) Cass provided us with the exact wood to purchase prior to purchasing which is why we selected red unfinished oak in the grade indicated by Cass Sanding all new and existing hardwood floors - This is by far and away the biggest issue with the work completed by Cass Construction Cass began sanding the floors, once installed, with a handheld belt sander - at which time I indicated that a walk behind sander is what is typically used in situations such as this Cass indicated that they prefer to use a belt sander as it gives the wood a better finish - I disagreed; however, Cass is the expert Several issues found once the sanding was completed and staining began 1) there were gouges in the floor where the belt sander dug into hardwoods 2) sanding practice was such that left side to side scarring of the wood 3) the staining practice used was inconsistent at best and left variations in the wood 4) Cass placed wood-filler between all of the slats on my existing hardwood floors When having a flooring expert, with over years experience, review he indicated that the hardwoods were "ruined" and that he would do his best to recover; however, they will never have the beveled edges as they were meant to have again - this was also something that is unable to be fixed 5) I have been told, again by my hardwood expert, that an underlayment should have been used for under the hardwoods which was not done either I have attached images of the gouges in the wood, the floors after they were "finished" by Cass - which show the scarring from sanding and the staining practice by Cass, I have also attached images of the hardwoods with wood-filler in-between the slats In order to get the floors sanded and stained back to a state of acceptance, I had to pay $5,800.Sanding, Staining, Refinishing stairway and railing post - When laying the hardwood, Cass Construction did not take into consideration how to handle the bull nose of the stairs They had cut the hardwood floor past the point of the bull nose which caused a significant ledge to exist beyond the bull nose In order to resolve this situation, I had to pay $for a contractor to come in, remove part of the hardwood floor, raise up the bull nose, and join with the hardwood floors again Further, Cass did a poor job with sanding the railing post which caused there to be significant discoloration with their staining jobI have paid my painter hours of labor to sand the railings back down so that they can be stained properly, by me.Ultimately, the job done by Cass was incomplete and unsatisfactory I have been left with an overage bill of $9, This does not include the work that still needs to be completed 1) Sanding/Refinishing steps (quoted $2,100), Crown Molding in the family room (quoted $+ material), Baseboards in family room and master bedroom (quoted $+ material). If you have any questions or concerns please call me or email me directly.***

Revdex.com: I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted] , and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below Again, the hardwood purchased had nothing to do with the work completed by Cass - I am not certain why this continues to come up The same hardwood is currently installed in the home and I am EXTREMELY satisfied with the vendor who came to resand and refinish the hardwood floors (correct the issues that were left from Cass) The bottom line is that 1) Cass did not finish the work they were contracted and paid to do and 2) it is quite clear they do not know how to sand, stain, and refinish flooring For your reference, I have attached (again) the image of what the floors looked like from Cass It is quite apparent in the photo that the sanding caused cross-scarring on the wood and that the staining job was poor (at best) Regards, [redacted]

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
Again, the hardwood purchased had nothing to do with the work completed by Cass - I am not certain why this continues to come up.  The same hardwood is currently installed in the home and I am EXTREMELY satisfied with the vendor who came to resand and refinish the hardwood floors (correct the issues that were left from Cass).  The bottom line is that 1) Cass did not finish the work they were contracted and paid to do and 2) it is quite clear they do not know how to sand, stain, and refinish flooring.  For your reference, I have attached (again) the image of what the floors looked like from Cass.  It is quite apparent in the photo that the sanding caused cross-scarring on the wood and that the staining job was poor (at best).

I have paid my painter 15 hours of labor to sand the railings back down so that they can be stained properly, by me.Ultimately, the job done by Cass was incomplete and unsatisfactory.  I have been left with an overage bill of $9,100.  This does not include the work that still needs to be completed 1) Sanding/Refinishing steps (quoted $2,100), Crown Molding in the family room (quoted $600 + material), Baseboards in family room and master bedroom (quoted $750 + material). If you have any questions or concerns please call me or email me directly.[redacted]
