Review: Cassara Contracting Corp. did not honor the terms of the contract we entered in to to repair our downstairs following Hurricane Sandy-related flooding. We agreed that they would install and secure insulation under our first floor, along with removal of all debris from the work that was done. The insulation was partially installed, and not secured sufficiently. There is still significant construction debris in the crawlspace under the house. They are aware of the issue, and as late as October, 2013, they claimed that they would be over to remedy the problem "within a week." This did not occur. Efforts to make contact have not been successful, as the proprietor has not returned any messages left.Desired Settlement: It is reasonable to expect that Cassara Contracting Corp. will finish the job, as they have been contracted and paid to complete it. They should finish installing and securing the under-floor insulation, and remove any large-scale construction debris from the crawlspace. If this is not possible within a reasonable time-frame (1-2 weeks from notification of this complaint), they should refund us the cost of having another contractor come to finish the job they were paid to do. We anticipate that another contractor would charge ~$1,000 dollars to complete this job, and will secure an estimate to support this claim if necessary.

The contractor has not completed the job, and I haven't heard from the business in several weeks.

Review: This person basically stole $74.448.00 of my money. We had a contract for him to renovate my house and for work to be paid upon after completion. The work was incomplete and subpar and almost everything needed to be redone or fixed by new workmen. Our contract explicitly states materials to be used, ie. Andersen 200 windows. He installed the cheapest possible vinyl windows. 80% of the electric needs to be redone. The framing did not pass inspection and is incomplete. I paid an additional $7000 for materials that were never furnished, including stairs. I thought all that was horrible when I found out, but now I've learned that a friend of his says the entire job was subcontracted to him and he has not been paid. If his friend is to be believed, [redacted] basically took the $75k and ran. The friend subcontractor is now threatening to hold me liable though in the two years I've waiting for him house to be done, I've only just learned of his existence now. It's a scam they colluded together on to basically get me to pay for the renovations twice.Desired Settlement: Refund for all of the following = $70200:

Windows replacement of the crap windows placed on my house $16,000

Electrical work to be redone and [redacted] fully paid for through final finishing $7200

Materials paid for but never furnished $7000

Framing incomplete and did not pass inspection with the municipality $15000

Roof incomplete $1000

Loss of time $24000

= $70200

Review: [redacted] of Cassara Contracting was the primary contractor on rebuilding our house after Superstorm Sandy. As time went on I started noticing many mistakes and problems with the work they were doing. many of these problems were found after [redacted] finished his work. One of the main issues was our brand new roof that [redacted] installed was leaking. While he was working on our house we notified him of this problem. he told us his guys took down the sheetrock, found the problem and fixed it. When I got home I noticed the sheetrock was never removed and that is when I found out he was not being honest. After a couple of weeks it rained again and the leak occurred again. I notified [redacted] and told him about the leak and also told him to bring in an actual roofer to fix the problem. He brought a roofer in and the roofer told him he can fix it. [redacted] didn't end up using him and agreed to pay the roofer of my choice to fix the problem.

The roofer I brought in opened up the roof and found many problems:

1. He did not have the proper base layer down.

2. He did not have an edge drip protection around the roof (the roof is semi-flat)

3. The roof was not properly lag bolted to the house and if we built the deck that was in our plans the whole back of the house would have collapsed because the nails would not have held the weight.

4. He did not have the proper Flashing around the sliding door that went out to the roof, so the door had to be removed and reflashed (along with all of the siding on that part of the house)

5. He did not use the proper type of flat roofing material

The company that I brought in charged me $5,000 for the repair. I paid the company and then sent [redacted] the bill and I have not heard back.

Another problem was the front stairs. The stairs were not built as per the plans. The treads on the stairs he built were only 9 1/2" deep. They are supposed to be a minimum of 11". Because of this both me and my wife [redacted] had fallen down them in the winter because your feet couldn't get a good grip because the majority of the weight bearing part of your foot would hang off of the edge of the stair treads. My wife recently became pregnant with our [redacted] child and we decided these stairs are too dangerous since we have both already fallen. Also the stairs and front porch were also not lag bolted to the house and they used an illegal way to bypass using Tico's to properly support the porch and stairs to the house. We had a company replace the stairs and fix the tico issue at an additional cost of $5,000.

We are worried what our future in this house holds after finding all of these issues. [redacted] also installed roughly 1500 square feet of hardwood flooring and instead of using the proper flooring nail/stapler he had his employee use a finish nailer. Their is no doubt in my mind that eventually all of our floor will be lifting. We already have spots that are and we have only been living in the house for 8 months.Desired Settlement: I would like to be repaid $10,000 cash for the repairs of the problems of his workmanship.
