Catalano Concrete Construction, Inc. Reviews (11)

My husband and I were looking to finally get rid of our old driveway and had no idea where to begin! I researched companies in our area and found Catalano Concrete through *** *** I was a bit hesitant however upon meeting with the owner, my husband was positive this was the company to hire! As the project went under way, they were quick and efficient, no cutting corners, to get rid of the old driveway and set up for the new one! We are beyond pleased with how our driveway, walkway and sidewalk turned out!!! I would NOT hesitate in recommending this company for future projects and have actually given out their information to friends!! Thank you Catalano Concrete for doing an EXCELLENT job on our project, we are grateful!!!!

Initial Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2014/09/26) */
The driveway was built 18' feet wide, which is the width that was listed on the contract and also submitted to the villageIf it needed to be inches wider we apologize for the miss communication however we always follow what is listed
on the contract
It is true that the control joint, which are the lines you see in concrete designed to accommodate shrinkage and to relieve internal stresses is not exactly in the center however it is cut straight and meets village code and industry standards according to the *** *** *** which states "ACI recommends that control joints be provided at to times the slab thickness in both directions." The current joint spacing on the driveway falls well within the industry standards and will not compromise the structural integrity or performance of the slab
We understand the customer is more concerned about the aesthetics rather the structural integrity of the driveway however we feel a full replacement or refund is unreasonable since the driveway was built according to the contract, village code and industry standardsI did meet with the customers to discuss the issue and had multiple phone calls to try to come to a resolution and offered installing brick paver ribbons along the sides at no charge however they declinedWe are still willing to offer the ribbons
Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (2000, 7, 2014/10/05) */

Catalano Construction is only correcting part of the problem and the only reason I'm accepting this because they will not correct the lines in the driveway that are not centeredSomething is better then nothing
Final Consumer Response /* (3000, 24, 2015/10/12) */
Catalano Concrete Construction, Incdid come out in the spring of and said they will be back in two weeks to put a ribbon of brick down the sides of the driveway to make it the size that it should have beenIt is now October and haven't heard from them yetI only agreed to this because they will not give me any kind of refund or the driveAs I stated before none of the sections of the drive way are equal and the center joint is not down the center off by several inchesThe side walk joints are not straight, and there was some damage to the existing side walkI would not recommend the company

We apologize for the delay with thisMy farther and I have discussed this issue and we are willing to replace the public walkway squares that are of concern
We will be there next week on Thursday Oct 29th

Catalano concrete did an excellent job on the removal form work, pouring and finishing of our concrete driveway, Pete walked me through the entire process The landscaping was minimally disturbed While carefully monitoring weather conditions, the pouring and finishing was done without incident We decided upon a California finish which looks greatOur front walk was also completed with gentle sweeping lines towards the drivewayEverything was graded properly, so to drain rain fall away from the house Upon completion of the finished driveway and forms removed, his crew came back with extremely clean fill to back fill all areas which I seeded to give it a nice finish look All in all it was a painless non-invasive professional experience

The driveway was completed during the summer of 2015. The following year we received a call regarding a hairline crack at the top section of the driveway. We met with the customer and explained hairline cracks are not covered by the one year warranty since they are common and not
a concern however the customer was concerned that it will get worse overtime. We agreed to extend the warranty another year in the event the crack got worseDuring the spring of this year the customer reached out to us and informed us of another crack at the top section of the driveway. We came out and repaired the crack with a repair compound, which is a common practice when fixing such types of cracks. We were unaware the customer was not pleased with the look of the repair until receiving the former complaint. In order to bring a resolution to this situation we agree to reimburse the customer for the two top sections of driveway, which we determined to be worth $1,200. Please let us know if this is satisfactory. Thank you

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ***, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me
Sincerely,
Nick ***

The information supplied by the customers appeals to be mostly true regarding what has taken place thus far however the customer must be aware that our warranty as written in our contract only covers major cracking
We feel our
warranty is fair and inline with industry norm since scaling is something that is commonly caused by de-icing products, which is beyond our controlAs a residential concrete contractor customer satisfaction is our main priority, which our A+ Revdex.com rating and multiple *** *** Super Service awards are proof ofWe treat every customer with respect and do what is fairHowever, in order to stay in business, we do from time to time have to enforce the terms and conditions of our warranty
Despite this, we have made a goodwill effort to respond to the customers issue thru visits and emails and have even agreed to try to repair the driveway in July despite the customer having no proof the damage was caused by poor workmanship
When we get to July a day and time will be provided but it is difficult to do so at this time due to the unpredictable circumstance surrounding the work we do (weather, customer availability, change orders, ect)
We feel we are going above and beyond our contractual obligations in order to resolve this issuePlease see attached email transcript of our conversations for more details regarding this issue

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
*** Catalano indicated to me at our first meeting he would have our drive inspectedThat never happened*** Catalano in two subsequent emails which he provided indicated he would have the drive inspectedThat never happenedInstead he just blamed salt damage as the easy way outObviously *** Catalano doesn't do what he says he is going to doHis good faith gesture is meaningless based on his prior actions
Peter acknowledges in his email dated May 23rd that spalling can be caused by poor workmanship and poor materialIf that is in fact the case does he not accept responsibility?
As further indicated by *** mine is the only drive out of installed that has had this happenDoesn't that comment indicate there may be more of a problem here
I am still not satisfied with this company or their response
Final Business Response /* (4000, 13, 2014/07/09) */
Consumer was sent an email on July 9th informing them that we will be there on July 25th to make the repair
Final Consumer Response /* (4200, 11, 2014/06/29) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
No date or time has been given for the repair
I will reconsider once the drive is repaired
NOTE FROM THE Revdex.com:
Please hold off on your complaint until you have contacted the consumer to arrange a date for the repairIf the repair can be scheduled within the next days please hold off on your response until after the repair has been completed
If the date agreed upon is more than days away, please advise us of the date agreed upon

We apologize for the delay with this. My farther and I have discussed this issue and we are willing to replace the public walkway squares that are of concern.
We will be there next week on Thursday Oct 29th.

Performed their services exactly as quoted and scheduled. Hard working and polite crew. excellent product. Owners very responsive to questions and requests.

Catalano Concrete Construction installed a new concrete driveway for me and I am very pleased with the results. This is a family business (father, son and mom) who are very nice people and easy to work with. Pete, the son gave me the estimate and was my contact person throughout the project. He was always easy to reach and made sure I was happy. Sal, the owner, supervised the pouring of the concrete. Very hard working and freindly man. My new driveway looks great and my front yard was left clean. Could'nt ask for more.

Initial Business Response /* (1000, 8, 2014/07/15) */
The consumer's driveway was replaced by our company in 2009. According to our records, the consumer contacted us last year and late June of this year requesting an estimate for stripping and sealing his driveway. Unfortunately, our...

company does not offer sealing as a separate service. We do however seal driveways as part of the installation.
The owner ([redacted] Catalano) has been known to go above and beyond the typical services we provide in order to please his customers. However our current schedule no longer affords us the time to accommodate these additional requests.
We apologize for the inconvenience.

Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 10, 2014/07/16) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
We would like some type of solution as to how to make the concrete appear smooth without the white patches that appear dry when it gets wet. As I mentioned before this has happened since the concrete was initially sealed in the rain back in 2009. We did contact the company last year and was told someone would come out to look at the driveway but we were not contacted about anything and nobody came to inspect the driveway. We feel this problem was due to the sealant being applied in the rain because it has always looked like this. When we asked about the sealant being applied in the rain we were told it didn't matter and it will appear smooth after everything cured. This has never happened.
Final Business Response /* (4000, 12, 2014/07/26) */
We are sorry the consumer is not pleased with the result of the sealer. Sealers are applied to protect concrete from freeze/thaw cycles and salt Unfortunately, they can change the color of the concrete after applied. I did visit the home a few weeks ago and the driveway is structurally sound. While we strive for customer satisfaction we cannot repair cosmetic issues.
Final Consumer Response /* (4200, 14, 2014/07/29) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
The company is welcome to look at the driveway when it is raining to understand what I am talking about. The driveway is structurally sound but would like to know why it appears this way when wet. Other driveways do not look like this. It has been like this from the time the driveway was sealed. It is a shame that it took a complaint with the Revdex.com to have the company finally look at our driveway. We still have no remedy and will have to look elsewhere for one.

The Catalano's did a great job with our walk way and patio. The crew were here when they said they would be and called if there were going to be late or had to cancel due to weather. Over all we were very happy with the experience. It is only been a few weeks but it looks great so far.
