I did come back but the discussion did not go as statedI explained their condition of the home which was effected by changing moisture conditions at the base of the foundationThey proceeded to argue that other parties had given them other information and that it was a major problemI reviewed
the foundation and interior like I did the first time and found and additional 1/inch of movement at the front corner, total of 3/inch which is insignificant structurally and did not affect the frame, No interior cracking was presentSame condition as first inspection at interiorThe movement is directly related to the improper downspout drainage which was at the cornerCorrection of the drainage is the means to mitigate future settlementThey had difficulty understanding the simple explanation of how their house had minor settlement and the rotation that occurs as well as the installation of the pier systems that they were told would correct their minor 3/8" settlementI can only explain how settlement works, how they were being told something else to sell a productI was professional but with two people that are uninformed and have a wrong opinion It is difficult to get a point acrossI provided my opinion as was asked for and provided again for freeYou can lead a horse to water but you cannot make him drinkI did my job to inform, unfortunately they have believed informationMy years of providing many of the same inspections and information speaks for itself. *** ***

Joe Cattan is a tremendous resource for anyone buying or selling a home. As a licensed structural engineer, a home inspector, and a former home builder, electrician and mason, he has a wide range of knowledge, skills and abilities to help clients. On top of that, he's just a nice guy.
