Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ***, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. First and foremost I want to stress that this is not at all a case of a consumer trying to not pay a contractor as referenced by *** Behm of CB Home Renovations LLC in his response to our complaintThe money is not an issue for usThe issue is we just bought a brand new construction home that we take a lot of pride in and now have a defective fence in our back yard that looks terrible and we are embarrassed to say is ours. CB Home Renovations LLChas not offered to resolve our complaintI do not dispute majority of the details in their response outside of couple of the dates being incorrectIts what he left out of the response is what is importantWe hired him in part because of the work he had performed in our neighborhoodAll the fences he built close to us were full privacy fences that looked good upon completionWe (myself and two neighbors, *** *** and *** ***) contracted him to build shadowbox style fences, not a full privacy fenceHe said he could do it and provided us an estimate with a picture of what the final product would like like which is far from what we received. This has been a painful processMultiple no call, now shows from *** Behm when he would schedule times for us to go over problems and now thisEveryone involved is extremely disappointed*** *** settled with CB Home Renovations LLC because he didnt want to waste any more time and energy over thisIt's ridiculousAs a consumer, you hire a professional to do a job in a set amount of time and you are supposed to get what you pay for.We are now in a situation where we have had two other professional contractors look at our fence and its going to cost us more to fix it than we originally agreed to pay in full forChambers Construction and Struck and Irwins comments are attached. A picture is worth a wordsPlease take a careful look at my attached documentsI want this to be doneCB Home Renovations LLCperformed work that is not up to professional standards and is not taking any accountability for their actionsAfter seeing the comments by other professional contractors I do not believe CB Rennovations LLCis competent to repair our fenceIf they are not willing to release us from the money owed we will be suing for our initial down payment back, cost of professional removal, any attorney fees incurred plus personal damagesRegards, *** ***

I am writing in response to a complaint filed by [redacted], ID# [redacted] contracted CB Home Renovations LLC to build a 4ft cedar fence around the perimeter of his property at [redacted], WI. The contract was signed on April 6th and a deposit of $2500 was...

collected. The fence was one of three fence projects grouped together with two neighbors to get a discounted rate. We scheduled the fence installs for 4-5 days each. We started the project on April 15th digging post holes and installing 4x4 posts. I told [redacted] the pickets were backordered and delivery was delayed until April 26th at which time we started to install the pickets. [redacted] expressed some concerns which were addressed and corrected on April 27th. We finished up details and gate installation on April 27th. When [redacted] emailed the following. [redacted], Thanks again for taking care of the details, it looks much better! - [redacted] The next time I heard from [redacted] was May 10th. when we were supposed to do our final walk around but got rained out. [redacted] sent an email stating the fence had so many errors and there was no way to make him happy. He requested that I do not come on his property again and that I should forfeit the remaining money owed. So on May 13th I asked him to pay the final invoice. He didn't agree the fence was complete and now wanted me to come back and make more adjustments. We scheduled a walk around meeting to look at the "errors" on May 18th. To try and reach a solution, I replaced over $500 of pickets that [redacted] & [redacted] marked as "defective" or installed un-plumb. Over the next few days we made minor adjustments raising and lowering sections of the fence to try and satisfy the homeowners. We finished making adjustments on May 24th and after sending another final invoice on June 2nd I received an email from [redacted] stating that he didn't think I fulfilled the contract and he was not going to pay the $1905 balance. We built six cedar fences on [redacted]'s block in the past year and had multiple praises and thank you emails from everyone except [redacted] and his neighbor [redacted] Dregne who are trying to get their fences installed without paying for it.

I was able to get inspections and estimates from 2 contractors to back my claims that the fence was not installed to industry standards and, in fact, far below them. I've attached one from Chambers Construction Concepts and Remodeling, Inc. I wasn't able to get an official estimate from Struck & Irwin because they would not bid to fix the fence with the materials that were used. However, Bill Tomer gave an inspection and exchanged his views via email. I will forward this exchange to you directly. I also put together a detailed document with images explaining my situation and why I reject CB Home Renovation LLC's response to the Revdex.com. This is a proposal made by Chambers Construction Concepts and Remodeling Inc. a licensed and insured Wisconsin corporation existing under the laws of the state of Wisconsin, with a principal place of business being [redacted]. This is a proposal for [redacted] whose address is [redacted]. Chambers Construction Concepts and Remodeling, Inc. inspected Mr. Calvert’s newly constructed fence installed by CB Home Renovations LLC. After inspection, Chambers Construction Concepts and Remodeling, Inc. concludes that the fence was installed in a manner that does not meet industry standards for the following reasons: 1. Several posts were not installed plumb. 2. Posts were not installed on a proper layout. 3. Posts were cut off too short. 4. Several cross members were cut too short resulting in gaps at posts. 5. No angle bracing was installed on corner posts. 6. Cedar pickets were not hung plumb. 7. Cedar pickets were not spaced properly leading to gaps and inconsistent spacing that should not be seen in a shadow box style fence. 8. Cedar pickets were not hung to proper elevations with some pickets touching the ground and some exceeding 4 inches off the ground. 9. Several picket fasteners that missed faming were left protruding and not removed or cut off. 10. Cedar pickets with obvious defects were hung that shouldn’t have been. 11. Pickets were installed with electro galvanized eight D framing nails not hot dipped galvanized, full head, ring shank siding nails. To remedy the defects Chambers Construction Concepts and Remodeling, Inc. proposes to perform the following services at the customer’s home address for the prices that follow: SCOPE OF SERVICES Option 1 Remove existing fence panels and gates on existing 287 lineal feet of shadow box fence. Disassemble panels saving as much material to reuse as possible. Dig out around and straighten any posts that need it. Install 2X4 cross members between posts. Brace all corner posts with angle bracing. Layout and install new cedar pickets on cross member sections. Hang fence panels in between posts. Rehang gates. Clean and haul away all debris. Cost $7950 Option 2 Remove existing fence pickets on 287 lineal feet of shadow box fence. Brace all corner posts with angle bracing. Layout and install new cedar pickets on cross member sections. Rehang gates. Clean and haul away all debris. Cost $5,450 1. All pickets shall be at least 1 inch off the ground, but no more than 3 inches off the ground.2. All fasteners will be hot dipped galvanized, full head, ring shank siding nails. Fastener size may vary depending on what is being fastened. 3. All services performed by Chambers Construction Concepts & Remodeling Inc. carry a ten year labor warranty. Plus the manufacturer warranty of any products installed. Proposal Date: 7/11/2016If there are any questions or comments regarding this proposal please contact the sales department at (608) 515-4582. All prices are locked for 30 days or by a signed contract.. We thank you for the opportunity to estimate your project. Best Regards, Logan A. ChambersBelow is the opinion of Bill Tomer of Struck & Irwin Fence, Inc on the quality of the fence that was installed by CB Home Renovations LLC on my property. Please start from the bottom where he gives an estimate for what they would charge to completely remove and replace the fence using their materials. I understand that we allowed CB to use lower quality framing materials (pressure-treated lumber) to save cost, but Bill's comments on the quality of work and structural integrity should carry a lot of weight. [redacted] from CB Home Renovations LLC actually recommended the wood saying it would last just as long as more expensive materials and we took his advice unknowing of the problems it would end up causing. However, if the crossbars were actually installed correctly and securely and the pickets were spaced correctly and hung pumb I wouldn't have filed a complaint in the first place. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks! - [redacted]Also, if this is helpful, attached are the initial estimate/contract that I signed and the final invoice I received. Note the small print at the bottom of the initial estimate that is not on the final invoice indicating that all work will be "completed in a professional manor according to standard practices" and that "work will completed in 4-5 days, weather permitting". I also question whether he can legally charge a 24% interest on overdue payments (overdue as in 5 days according to him) before he sends to collections after 30 days overdue. Again, please let me know if you have any questions! - [redacted]On 7/15/16 6:50 PM, [redacted] wrote: Below is the opinion of Bill Tomer of Struck & Irwin Fence, Inc on the quality of the fence that was installed by CB Home Renovations LLC on my property.  [redacted], I noticed warped, cracked 4x4 posts...rails that didn't reach on center of posts that weren't attached properly which could be a strength issue, and badly cracked, chipped boards that in some cases were not plumb that left gaps in the appearance of the fence. Thank you.----- Original Message -----From: [redacted]To: [redacted]Cc: [redacted] Dregne - Business Services [redacted]Sent: Wed, 13 Jul 2016 18:01:18 -0400 (EDT)Subject: Re: FenceThanks [redacted], I understand. I really appreciate you taking time to come out and look at our fences. I CC'd my neighbor on this email back. I'mgoing to submit this email along with the rest of our case to the Revdex.com and DATCP. If you wouldn't mind, while it's still fresh in your memory, could you please list some of the things that you noticed (besides materials since we agreed to use pressure-treated lumber) that in your professional opinion are not up to industrystandards. This would at least help us with our case against CB Home Renovations to hopefully get some of our money back. Thank you in advance! - [redacted]On 7/13/16 4:52 PM, [redacted]Hello [redacted],I spoke with the owners, and unfortunately I won't be bidding to do repairs to your fence based on materials used by the original installers that we wouldn't be comfortable working with. After looking at the fence, it is my opinion that the installation was less than what would meet our standards, and I believe you have a legitimate reason to feel that what you received was not up to the industries standards of professional workmanship. Based on 287' of 4' tall cedar shadowbox fence with 3 gates, the approximate replacement price based on Struck & Irwin's materials would be approximately $ 9,200.00 installed. Please let me know if I may be of further assistance. Thank you.[redacted]
