C&E Cleaning and Handyman Service

C&E Cleaning did two jobs for me prior to the complaint I have regarding a currently job. The first two jobs that C&E did for me I was satisfied. [redacted](C&E Cleaning) also installed a water heater for my mom. [redacted] stained my mother’s porch which I had to call him several times to go back and do the finishing touches to the porch. [redacted](C&E Cleaning) came to my house to get payment for cleaning gutters at one of my rental properties. I mentioned to [redacted] that I would like to get my deck done. The deck had been painted from the previous owners and the paint was chipping. I wanted the deck sanded and stained. He told me he would give me quote. I couple of days later [redacted] called with a quote. I told him it was more than what I wanted to pay to get the work done. He said he would work with me because he wanted to the work. We verbally agreed to $750.00. I thought it was still a little high but I agreed. He asked me when could he come by and do the contract and get the down payment. I advised [redacted] I was out of town for my job and plus hadn’t done my mother’s porch and I wanted him to complete that before we get started on the deck. I told him I would be home that Saturday. He called me Saturday and I told him I wanted my mother’s deck done first. [redacted] then called me that following Monday and said he finished my mother’s porch when can he come over so he can bring the contract and get the down payment. I told him I was still gone for my job and I would be back home on Saturday. [redacted] called me almost every day after that asking when he can come and get the money. I spoke with my mother and she said [redacted] and finished and she paid him but there was a few spots on the porch that he missed and she wanted him to come back. When [redacted] called every time I asked him when he would be able to go back to my mother’s house to do the finishing touches. He said I will get out there. So I told him I will be back Saturday and he could come with the contract to sign and give him the down payment. [redacted] called me Saturday morning asking could he come by that day and sign the contract and give him the down payment. I told him sure. [redacted] came over later on that day. I told him I thought the deck need to be sanded and stained. He then had me sign the contract and then asked if I could give him $600.00 upfront for the job. I told him I wasn’t comfortable giving him that much money upfront. I had agreed to half on the other jobs because they were small jobs and since he was a small business I was will to pay half upfront on the other jobs. I told [redacted] that the standard for a contractor to get upfront is 20%- 30% but I was willing to give him have since he was a small business. Have would have been $375.00. He then asked if I could please just give him at least $400.00. Reluctantly gave him the $400.00 upfront. After I gave [redacted] the check he then said he then said he would get started that Tuesday. I told him ok. I received a phone call from [redacted] Tuesday saying that he had gotten a flat tire and he wouldn’t be able to make over to my house that day and he probably wouldn’t be able to make it over to my house that Friday. I called him back a couple of hours later and told him that I was very dissatisfied with what was going on. I also reminded him that he still hadn’t finished the finishing touches on my mother’s porch yet. I also told him that the check I had given had cleaned out of my account that morning. He was really apologizing and saying he was going to make it right. He said he would come and work on Wednesday. He said he would first go over to my mother’s and finish the porch and then go to my house to work on my deck and I said ok. [redacted] called me on Wednesday and said he had finished my mother’s porch and he was at my house watering down the porch. He said he would come back that evening to get started because of the sun. He said he would be at the house when I got home from work. I got home from work and he had only did a little bit of work and said he was finished for the day and he would come back the next day. Thursday I didn’t hear from [redacted] I looked and the deck and it didn’t look like anymore work had been done. [redacted] called me on Friday and said he wouldn’t be able to make it over to work that day he said he wouldn’t be able to come back again until Monday. Monday, May 28th I didn’t hear from [redacted] so I called him. He said he wanted to come later in the evening because of the sun. I told him the sun wasn’t even out yet. He said we would get over to my house by noon. He came to the house. I told him I was very dissatisfied. I told him I wasn’t happy with the way he was doing the deck and the length of time it was taking him. I told him the porch need to be sanded and stained and he was stripping it and the stain wasn’t going to look right if he didn’t sand it before he put the stain down. After going back and forth for a while I told him I wanted my money back because I wasn’t pleased at all. He said he didn’t have the money. He said he put the money back into his business. He later admitted to my husband he had not done a deck before where he had to strip it and stain it before. He said he was reading on the internet how to do it and he thought that was the right way to do it. I am very upset and dissatisfied with C&E Cleaning & Handyman Services. I would like a full refund of my money because he gave me the run around and lied about knowing what he was doing.
