Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# ***, and have determined that my complaint has NOT beenresolved because:
Merkel Racing Engines (Scott M***) was paid $1,for two full days of dyno tuning my engine with MSD distributor in October The MSD distributor was supplied to Merkel before the dyno tuning job was performedThe Dyno tuning took place October *** 2015, billed on 10/**/I picked up the engine at end of business day on 10/**/with the MSD distributor installedMerkel will not take ownership or responsibility for engine tuning work never performed that I paid for.Merkel Racing cost me a tremendous amount of time, money, and aggravation failing to tune the MSD distributor I paid them to tune.I have paperwork (scan attached) showing my Mallory *** distributor was replaced under warranty with a MSD distributor in September 2015, before Merkel dyno tuning took place in October Scott M*** recommended the MSD unit be used on my engine and also for ease of adjustability while dyno tuning.NOTE: On original complaint I have an error with "2015" instead of "2016" and this sentence should read "During/after March speaking with ***, Lunati, and MSD technicians in-depth to trouble-shoot my performance problems it was discovered that Merkel Racing Engines DID NOT ADJUST, TUNE, or CHANGE my MSD distributor from its default stock settings (including 4,RPM acurve) when I paid them $1,to dyno tune my engine on 10/**/15."It would have been more accurate to state above, "Starting June speaking with ***, Lunati, and MSD"My letters to Merkel Racing outside of the Revdex.com complaint state the time-frame correctly.Scott Merkel makes many statement to distract from the fact Merkel Racing Engines never tuned the MSD distributor over the course of two full days of dyno tuning that I paid $1,forAlso, leading me to believe the distributor had been tuned. To address confusing statements Scott Merkel makes to distract from my complaint and discredit me:-My racing engine was custom built at a cost of approx $9,(long block alone) with Dart block, forged crankshaft, rods, pistons, etcand was contracted to be built with 10:compression (no less than 9.5:compression)Engine builder supplied me with an engine with less compression and they made things right on their errorThis has absolutely nothing to do with my complaint related to Merkel tuning my engine.-Merkel was paid $to install, degree, and brea camshaft in January on my engineScan of bill attachedThis has nothing to do with my complaint of dyno work not performed properly in October 2015.-Merkel was paid $1,for two full days of dyno tuning my engine in October Scan of bill attachedThis has everything to do with my complaint against Merkel Racing.-Merkel was paid $to install, degree, and brea replacement camshaft in June Scan of bill attachedThis work was unnecessary and being performed to fix a performance issue Merkel Racing created by NEVER tuning the MSD distributor they were paid $1,to tune in October The engine did not perform correctly in the vehicle below 4,RPM'sScott Merkel stated "nothing more could be done" to tune the engine and recommended I install another camshaftThe chamshaft change was work performed per Merkel recommendation to fix a performance problem they created by never tuning my MSD distributor. To address Scott Merkel's rhetoric of "*** also boasted about the free rocker arms that he got out of Scorpion because he didn't like the look of the anodizing, the carburetor that he was returning to Quick Fuel because he thought the return spring was too stiff, the MSD distributor that he got from MSD(even thought it was out of warranty)to replace the Mallory, and a free camshaft specification check from *** because he refused to believe that they ground the original correctly".-The Scorpion Rocker arms were replaced under warranty with Scorpion directlyMy Scorpion rocker arms were mailed to them and replacements mailed to meNo "free" rocker arms were obtained as Scott statesThe reason the rocker arms were sent to Scorpion was in June when I was having the camshaft replaced at Merkel Racing engines it was pointed out to me by Merkel that the blue finish was deteriorating on every rocker arm with hardly any usageMerkel Racing engines pointed the problem out to me! Scott M*** personally supplied an empty rocker arm box for me to use to mail the rocker arms back to Scorpion for replacementHis statement about me bragging of "free" rocker arms is simply not true.-The Quick Fuel carburetor I had with annular boosters was sent to Quick Fuel to have down-leg boosters installedScott Merkel needs to check his facts.-Mallory *** distributor was replaced under warranty in September of for an MSD distributor (Since MSD bought out Mallory)I spoke with Merkel Racing engines to get a recommendation on which MSD distributor to use for dyno tuning in October Scott M***'s statement that I replaced the distributor out of warranty is simply not trueScan of replacement under warranty attachedScott M*** needs to check his facts.-*** volunteered to machine check the camshaft I used for dyno tuning in October The reason for this was the engine Merkel dyno tuned in October was grossly underperforming below 4,RPM'sAt the time it was unknown to me Merkel NEVER ADJUSTED AND NEVER TUNED THE MSD DISTRIBUTOR they were supplied for dyno tuningSpeaking with *** they helped me trace the problem back to the distributor never being tuned by MerkelYes, I did receive a "free" camshaft check from *** to diagnose a problem that Merkel Racing created by not tuning an engine I paid them $1,to tune.In summary of my complaint, Merkel Racing Engines (Scott M***) was paid $1,for two full days of dyno tuning my engine with MSD distributorThe MSD distributor was never tunedFollowing October engine tuning by Merkel I took Scott M***s performance troubleshooting recommendations to change camshafts and further expenses were incurred of $Negligence on the tuning work performed in October was discovered in June after a tremendous amount of time and money was spent with Merkel RacingScott M*** failed supervising the tuning work performed on my engine in October and will not take ownership or responsibilitySincerely,*** ***

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# ***, and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:Merkel Racing has refused to reimburse engine services I was billed for and never performed.Scott Merkel's response to my dispute is composed of confusing and misleading statements made to cover up Merkel Racing negligence, or work intentionally never done, that I was billed for.For the record:1) My first engine work performed by Merkel Racing (billed on 01/**/2015) was for a *** camshaft install and bredyno only$I have receipt to verify.2) My second visit was to have my engine dyno tuned (billed on 10/**/2015)MSD distributor was supplied at beginning of dyno tuning per Merkel Racing recommendationI paid $1,for 2-days of dyno tuningEngine was picked upAT THIS TIME I DID NOT KNOW MERKEL RACING DID NOT TUNE MY DISTRIBUTOR, which they were paid $1,to tuneI have receipt.3) Engine was installed in vehicle it did not perform properlyI was told by Merkel Racing that "nothing more could be done" to tune the engineMerkel racing then recommended I install another camshaft as a solutionAGAIN, AT THIS TIME I DID NOT KNOW MERKEL RACING DID NOT TUNE THE MSD DISTRIBUTOR, which they were paid $1,to tune in October and left it with manufacturer default setting (4,RPM curve).4) Engine was brought back to Merkel Racing to have another camshaft installed at their recommendation (billed on 06/**/2016)I have receipt to show work in amount of $I would NOT have installed another camshaft had I know MSD distributor was never tuned after I paid Merkel $1,to tune my engine in October 2015.5) Engine still did not perform properly after new camshaft installationAt this time working with *** and MSD technicians it was discovered Merkel Racing did not tune my distributor that they were paid $1,to tune in October 2015.The last two-paragraphs of Scott M***'s response are strangely very personal and full of untruthsIt appears many points are being made to confuse the reader and distract from my claim against Merkel Racing. For the record:-Merkel Racing (and Scott M*** certainly did recommend another camshaft be installed when I told them the engine would not perform after I paid $1,for dyno tuningI have to seriously question whether confusing comments made by Scott M*** are to cover up purposely not tuning the distributor.-I never followed a magazine build and consider that a complete untruth on the part of Scott M*** to discredit me.-Scorpion Rocker arms were replaced under warranty by Scorpion since anodizing/finish failedI never received "free" rocker arms since first set was returned to ScorpionScorpion agreed blue finish should not have chipped/lifted/pitted on every rocker with little useageScott M***s untrue comments on my warranty claim are strange and appear to be made to discredit me somehow.-No warranty was ever made on the MSD distributorThis comment appears to be made by Scott M*** to confuse reader or somehow discredit me.-My custom engine long-block ($9500) was specifically ordered to be ~10.00:compression (9.50:at minimum)Engine received was discovered to be built with less than 9.50:compression so work was not performed as paidEngine builder (not Merkel Racing) made good on errorI was considering having Merkel Racing (local to me) increase the engine compression and a quote was generatedThis quote was before any work was performed by Merkel on my engine and has absolutely nothing to do with my Merkel Racing disputeI find it very strange Scott M*** is twisting this quote to somehow relate to my disputeI can only assume Scott M*** is again trying to distract the reader and discredit me.-The reason the *** camshaft was verified by *** (at ***'s recommendation) was to rule out the camshaft being ground incorrectlyOnce camshaft was verified being correct it was discovered working with *** and MSD technicians that MERKEL RACING engines did not tune or adjust the MSD distributor they were paid $1,to tune with engine in October 2015.In summary my dispute with Merkel Racing is for paying $1,to have a Ford engine dyno tuned over two-days (October 2015) and later discovering absolutely no tuning to my MSD distributor (supplied at start of job to Merkel) was done that I paid forAfter tuning work was performed and engine installed in vehicle severe performance issues were presentI was told by Merkel (since Merkel tuned the engine) that "nothing more could be done" to fix performance issues and Merkel Racing recommended I change camshafts to fix performance issuesI paid Merkel Racing $to change camshafts in June at which point the engine still did not perform correctlyAfter throughly investigating and troubleshooting with *** and MSD technicians it was discovered Merkel Racing never tuned the MSD distributor during October and left it with default manufacturer curve and total advance settingsA distributor 4,RPM curve was not appropriate for either camshaft installed causing the performance issuesOnce this was adjusted by me the problems were fixedUnfortunately a lot of money and time was spent finding the problem that Merkel Racing created by not performing work they were paid to do. Scott Merkel will not own up to his shops incompetence or work intentionally never performed that cost me a lot of time and money.
In order for the Revdex.com to appropriately process your response, you MUST answer the question above
Sincerely,
*** ***

I am sorry that [redacted] is dissatisfied with our services. I hope to clear some confusion of dates work had been performed, as well as our responsibilities for this particular project. [redacted] originally came to my shop in the beginning of 2015 to change a camshaft (not a grind that was...

suggested or supplied by Merkel Racing Engines) and dynamometer test an engine that was designed and built elsewhere. [redacted] was in the middle of a dispute with the original engine builder and was trying to get $500.00 back from the original invoice due to a dispute over listed specifications that were well within industry standards.[redacted] hired my shop on 1**/15 to change the camshaft from the originally installed cam, to his own supplied design, and break in the engine on the dyno. At this point the engine was brand new and was never run before, fresh from his builder. The distributor being used was a Mallory part number [redacted]. The invoice for this job was in the amount of $761.00. [redacted] paid for the “break in” price plus the cost of installation of his supplied parts. [redacted] claims at this time “After installing the engine in my Mustang it was again severely lacking performance on the low and mid range as it was before”. I question how [redacted] felt the engine “was lacking performance as it was before” if this was the first time it had been installed in the car since new. [redacted] goes on to complain that “During/after March 2015 speaking with [redacted], Lunati, and MSD technicians in-depth to trouble-shoot my performance problems it was discovered that Merkel Racing Engines DID NOT ADUST, TUNE, or CHANGE my MSD distributor from it’s default factory settings”.This was the first time that I worked on [redacted]’s engine. At this point he had paid for a break in dyno test only. [redacted] DID NOT OWN THE MSD DISTRIBUTOR THAT HE COMPLAINS ABOUT MY SHOP TUNING UNTIL THE END OF 2015. I can’t tune a distributor that I don’t have. Up to this point, [redacted] paid to install his own proposed, supplied cam and to break in his engine only.[redacted] came to my shop again on 9/**/15 with the same Mallory distributor to do more dyno testing. Over the course of three days worth of tuning, and twenty two dyno pulls we tuned two carburetors and TUNED THE MALLORY [redacted] DISTRIBUTOR. [redacted] came back to me on 10/**/15 for more dyno work. At this point he had brought another carburetor to test, as well as an MSD distributor to install. We tested his new carburetor and installed the new distributor as instructed. Four dyno pulls were put on the engine to test the carburetor that [redacted] supplied. The combined twenty two pulls with Mallory distributor on 9/**/15 (over the course of three days), and four pulls with MSD distributor on 10/**/15 (over the course of a half day), total dyno tuning was billed at only two dyno days for the total cost of $1376.00.[redacted] fails to mention that there was one last dyno session that was billed on 6/**/16. Another camshaft was installed and cam degreed. This last camshaft had [redacted] satisfied to the point that he had called me about two to three weeks after the engine left the shop thanking me. At this time he mentioned that he was very happy with the performance of the car. This was the last correspondence that I had with [redacted] prior to letters stating that he demanded a refund. At no time during the tuning and installation of parts did Merkel Racing Engines sell or recommend any specific part. [redacted] was adamant that this is a proven combination, and he followed a magazine article’s build.[redacted] came to my shop with a current dispute with the original engine builder. [redacted] bragged about the fact that he was getting $500.00 out of said engine builder for machine work that he claimed was done incorrectly. He told the engine builder that he was planning on disassembling the engine and re-machining the block (I spoke with the engine builder that confirmed the conversation), well aware of the fact that this was not necessary. [redacted] also boasted about the free rocker arms that he got out of Scorpion because he didn’t like the look of the anodizing, the carburetor that he was returning to Quick Fuel because he thought the return spring was too stiff, the MSD distributor that he got from MSD (even though it was out of warranty) to replace the Mallory, and a free camshaft specification check from [redacted] because he refused to believe that they ground the original correctly. We have been in business for over fourty years and built and tuned well over 10,000 engines for satisfied customers. Our experience and quality as an engine building and tuning shop is second to none. [redacted]’s engine was tuned on a Superflow SF901 calibrated engine dynamometer by a qualified technician in [redacted]’s best interest. To say that it was tuned incorrectly is strictly a matter of opinion.
