Initial Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2015/06/16) */
Customer requested that we cross the curbline and drive into his back yard with our large truckPrior to doing so we requested that he sign our damage release (Attached) waiving us of liability for damage due to their request for us to an area
where property damage is possibly going to occurContrary to the customers statement our driver states that he was under direction of the customers crew at the time the damage occurred(driver narrative attached

Re: Case ID #[redacted]
Dear [redacted],
[redacted], the concrete contractor who placed the concrete, gave M/M [redacted] the option to have granite or gravel as the coarse aggregate fraction of the...

concrete mix. Sierra explained to M/M [redacted] that gravels have the potential to produce rock pops at the surface of the concrete and granite has the potential to exhibit mortar flaking on the surface. M/M [redacted] chose to use granite as the coarse aggregate fraction of the mix.
Cemstone Products Company has investigated the complaint for the above referenced case ID. The issue the driveway is experiencing is scaling and mortar flaking. We feel very strongly that these issues are not related to the quality of the concrete but more likely can be attributed to but not limited to improper curing of the concrete or the environment the concrete was subjected to after it was placed.
There needs to be extra precautions taken for exterior concrete placed in our region after September 30th. Exterior concrete in our region needs to have 500 psi before it goes through its first freeze/thaw cycle and 3,500psi before it goes through multiple freeze/thaw cycles. This driveway was placed on October 13th. There were multiple freeze thaw cycles within the first 28 days of placement. It's possible that the date of placement may have contributed to the issue as the concrete may not have reached 3,500psi before it experienced multiple freeze/thaw cycles
I have attached the "Concrete in Practice" brochure from the National Ready Mix Concrete Association that explains what scaling is and why concrete surfaces scale. We feel the brochure helps support our claim that that the driveway issues are not related to the quality of the concrete as delivered by Cemstone Products Company.
If you have any further questions please feel free to contact me.
Respectfully,

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
There are errors of fact in Cemstone's response. Most notably, the date of installation, which was not October but June/July. Secondly, Matt of [redacted], explained to us that granite resisted popping better than gravel. We don't know where the company obtained this information. Did they discuss it with Matt? To our knowledge, care taken by both the contractor and ourselves to assure proper curing was more than adequate. Finally, as far as we know, NO ONE from Cemstone has ever been out to look at our driveway.
