I would not recommend Centauri to any seeking homeowners coverage. My policy was bound January 2015. The customer service received from the company has been less than average. The company received my "Monitored Alarm Certificate," prior to the binding of my policy. However, a month later, I received a billing statement for the discounted amount received for having a monitored alarm. When I called to advise that the document was submitted via electronic transmission during the time I was communicating with the agent. A week after, I received a notice of cancellation due to nonpayment of the $44. I again called and spoke with a representative who was not the most professional. I wanted to know why I received a 2 week cancellation notification when I had just called the prior week or so, to advise that the company should have been in receipt of the certificate. Additionally, the inspector was a bit pushy. He was trying to meet his inspection due date that was in a week or so; however, I had to schedule the inspection when it was best for my work schedule. Finally, after the inspection, I received a notice of cancellation for 3 very minute issues. I was given a 30 day cancellation date. I am a former personal lines underwriter. After an unfavorable inspection, our customers were given between 60-90 days to correct the matter and provide proof of repair or replacement; unless it was something dangerous or totally against the guidelines. I called the agent today and I explained that I wasn't allowed an opportunity to correct the issues. After I told her about the company that I previously worked for, she said that I had until the cancellation date to correct. Once corrected, I could send photos and the policy would be reinstated. I asked her why wasn't this information in the cancellation letter. She stated that when customers call and inquire about an inspection, they will inform them. What if I had not called? This is NOT good customer service, even if it is legal. She stated that there is certain wording that has to be in the letters; which I am aware. I am positive that giving a customer an opportunity to correct issues is not illegal. I was an underwriter in personal lines, I am aware of the policies and guidelines. Although, each company is different, there are state guidelines that all companies must adhere to. One issue stated that there were a few shingles lifting from my roof. It did not state location. the agent sent me the photos during our conversation; and two shingles are slightly bent on the edges, as the agent also stated in our telephone conversation. The other issue was a small hole in my soffit. These are not major issues that call for cancellation. Centauri is a smaller insurer with not as much reserves as nationwide companies. So, for homes that are older, even with minor issues, I think they seek ways to cancel. As a read the cancellation policy, it is totally permittable, although unjust. So, if you are considering insuring with this company, please think again. It is better to pay a bit more now, and save the hassle later.

Cancelled homeowner's insurance after only a month and a large down payment stating my roof is unacceptable. There is nothing wrong with my roof that a good pressure washing and sealing wouldn't fix. That will have to wait for the rainy season to be over and the neighbors' trees to be trimmed. It does not leak, it's metal (wind resistant to 120mph), and I've received discounts for this roof in the near past. Very big problems with insurance companies in Florida anyway. Now they insist you insure for rebuild costs instead of actual value. My rebuild costs have been estimated at $300k where the actual value of my home is about half that. So insurance companies now want you to pay for insuring a Cadillac when you only have a Kia. Something's not right about that.
