Dog was brought to center to be spayed on 10/24/14. Picked her up that same day. I was told everything went fine and was sent home. Two days later I learned, after my dog lost a good deal of hair across her back, that she sustained 1st, 2nd and 3rd degree burns on her back. Upon examination by another vet, I was informed they were thermal burns from a heating pad that was used during the surgery. When I contacted the Center for Animal Health on two separate occasions the same day I learned of the burns to request my dogs records as well as the pad so that I could see the condition of the pad and contact the manufacture of the pad to determine whether this has happened before, I was told that, despite my requests, the pad had been discarded and was no longer available. In addition, although I was told that the facility would cover all costs related to the care of the burn, I subsequently learned that offer extended only if I went to a facility owned by their clinic. When I went to WVRC for a second opinion on the burns, which visit amounted to $89, the owner of the Center for Animal Health informed me that he would not be paying that bill because it was not within his affiliated hospital network and that "that is what malpractice insurance is for." There are many great vets out there that run excellent facilities. This is NOT ONE OF THEM and I would think twice before you go into the doors of this facility.
