Initial Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2015/05/15) */
Regarding repairs to customers Rolls Royce, The customer had me go to his shop to look at the vehicle, He informed me that this was an insurance claim for damage caused to the body by the mechanic thereSince this is a specialty car I
informed him it would take a couple of months to do the repairs and the car would need to be running when delivered to our shopThe vehicle was towed into our shop on 4/3/@ 1pm with the engine disassembled not drivableRepairs proceeded on 4/8/with hood disassembly, customer had us stop repairs on 5/4/and had the vehicle towed out of our shop on 5/5/15, The customer signed a release that the hood would not be released until paid for by customer or the insurance companyThe insurance company is sending out an independent adjuster to look at the vehicle and they will issue payment to us once they inspect but we were advised not to release the hood until payment clears witch could take business days once depositedThe customer informed me that there was a restoration shop in Florida that quoted them $15,on the hood repairsWe informed them that Olson Sheet Metal in Minneapolis can do the hood repairs since they have specialized in specialty metal repairs and polishing since There is no conflict of interest since the customer and insurance company both knew who was doing the repairs and it would be a significant time savings by repairing the hood locallyAs far as the cost invoice that would be provided to the insurance company if requested by themCustomers do not receive copies of our cost invoices as in his business or any businessPrice changing in one hour is incorrectThe first pricing was what I believed the metal shop had in repairs I got the current repair price from them and the customer had us do other separate part repairs bringing it up to the $9800, and $was the completed repair cost on the hood portion of repairsThe customer was not allowed into the shop in Minneapolis to see the repair process on the hood because the shop owner was not there and the tenant in the shop next does not have authorization to bring people into the buildingAlso due to the type of shop, the shops insurance company does not allow people other then employees in the shop, Photos of the hood before and during repairs have been provided to the insurance companyAs far as threat over phone he stated that the hood would not be released without payment to shop because the customer said he was going to come down and take the hood from the shopThe hood on this car is polished aluminum (no paint), Special equipment is needed for repairs so there are few places that can do this type of repairs and it is always done on a time and material charge, Once the insurance company has paid for the repairs done to this point and payment has cleared we will release the hood and other parts that the customer had us repair
