Our technical and career training programs are offered on our east campus (as opposed to liberal arts and general studies which are predominantly offered on west campus)Faculty are often in attendance for the east campus information sessions and they work closely with potential students to share information about the programs, registration, etcIf there are questions for faculty or staff about financial aid, the students are referred to the financial aid office

Registrations are not accepted on a conditional basis, that is we do not accept registration IF financial aid comes through for the studentStudents are informed in the information sessions and in the newsletter they are given at the information session that they are responsible for their registration and if they do not plan to attend, they are responsible for going back online and canceling that registrationJust as students go online to register (via Student Web) they need to go online to cancel that registration if they do not plan to attend

I specifically explained to the staff at information night that I was not ready to register for classes until I had information on Financial AidStaff directed me to do online assessment, fill out forms, etcI repeatedly told them I was not ready to register, but apparently they did it for me anyway
I did not receive ANY information via email, mail, etc about the start date of class, required drop date, etc, The first information I got from Century College was a notice that long past the drop date informing me that I was responsible for a class that I did not want to register for, and did not participate in, even one session
I did not know they had registered me, and I certainly would have dropped the class if I had been informed

The first class that the student registered for involved getting signed permission from the facultyThere would have been discussion with the people involved including the faculty who signed the registration formThere were other issues that came up during the registration process, and again there would have been discussion with those involved - including the student - about the process
The college's staff who work at these events are very clear about the student being responsible for cancelling if they are not going to attendIf there are questions about financial aid, they routinely refer them to the financial aid office
The college still considers this a valid debt
