mortgage protection service or similar services after the closing of your loan with Century Lending Company (“Century'). You also noted that these entities appeared to be using Century Lending's name in their correspondence, which indicated some sort or affiliation with us, or, at a minimum, that they received personal information about you or your loan from us.Please rest assured that Century has not provided your nonpublic personal information to third parties other than the mortgage loan servicer and investor. Century is prohibited by federal law from providing your personal information to any third party other than as disclosed in its privacy agreement, and except to the extent required to facilitate your transaction or comply with legal mandates such as court orders or subpoenas. Century’s written privacy policy is attached to this letter for your review. You will note that it states: “We do not sell our customer lists, customer information, or non-public information.”Unfortunately, the problem you describe is a common one. Mortgages and deeds are recorded through local government entities (in this case, with Montgomery County). These recorded documents are public record, and are accessible by anyone who wishes to access them. Many third party entities obtain lists of recently recorded mortgages from county recorders offices and then target the borrowers with “mortgage protection” or “mortgage insurance' offers thereafter. Often these companies are unscrupulous in their practices, many times attempting to pass themselves off as the original lender. Regrettably, this is not something that Century or any other bank or lender has the ability to prevent. Century can guarantee, however, that these entities are not in any way affiliated with us, and that we did not provide or sell them any of your information.
