Complaint[redacted].We took possession of our home in July 2012. Within 12mos it was cracking and deteriorating at a much faster rate than is acceptable, even In Saskatchewan climate. We brought it up inside our 12 month window to bring up warranty concerns but were ignored. I tried repeatedly to even have them come look at it and tell me if it met their quality standards but they won't even do that much. [redacted]Desired SettlementI want this concrete repaired or replaced. [redacted]Business Response Century West personal has looked at Mr. [redacted]'s driveway a number of times. What we have found is are cracks present in the driveway slab as is to be expected. We do not consider the driveway to be excessively cracked. There is one area next to the garage door where the driveway joins to the front sidewalk where there are a number of cracks and it has caused a small piece of concrete to break away at the surface. It appears that cracks in this area are due to the movement of the underlying soil. It is very well known that expansive clay soils are present in the Regina and surrounding area and are typically the cause cracking because of the heaving and settling action of the clay. Which is why we include a clause in our sales agreements (clauses #12 and #13) clearly stating that this can commonly occur to slab-on grade constructed elements, such as his driveway, and we are not responsible for the issues caused by this type of soil condition. Mr. [redacted]'s driveway also has some shale popping present on its surface. This is also very common in the Regina area due to the locally available aggregates. We do not believe that the amount of shale popping in his driveway is excessive. In summary we do not believe that either condition is excessive or is a result of poor workmanship as Mr. [redacted] claims it to be. As such we are not prepared to replace the driveway as he has requested.Consumer Response (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)Understood. This is considered normal and acceptable by Century West standards. The "small area" at the corner of the garage is over 8" in diameter and over 1" deep. The cracks are spreading everywhere and are over 1/8" wide in places. Whether the problem is workmanship or materials there most definitely is a problem. [redacted]
