Complaint: ***
I am rejecting this response because: We did, in fact, have a conversation regarding repainting vresiding. I raised that question during the initial quote and the quoting agent assured me I would get a smooth finish and a paint job that lasted 8-years. On that assurance, I agreed to the contact. Certapro, in their written communications, has affirmed that this is what I was told so I am surprised that they would now try to act as if the conversation transpired in another fashion. Please note that paint is chipping and falling off of wood that has been well protected for years under a covered deck. Certapro has been unable to tell us why we have the same results on so called damaged and undamaged boards….Our initial contract with Certapro (drafted by Certapro) outlined that ‘heavy prep’ was required on areas where repair/replacement was not outlined in the contact. Note that we contracted for replacement covering the rot that is noted by the respondent and allowed for additional work as needed and approved in advance of work by myself or my wife; this was specifically drafted into the contact too Certapro was on site to quote the job, drafted the contract, and presumably looked at the siding before they started working so our reasonable assumption would be that they would have understood what was feasible with regards to expected results and would have communicated any concerns to us The crew performing the job on the first go around never raised any concerns about the siding or asked for additional work to be consented to Irrespective of the above, our second contract with Certapro called for the replacement of all damaged boards to provide for a smooth finish. Certapro, again, was on site to quote that job and they told me what was needing to be replaced so the fact that I still have an uneven finish with paint falling off ties directly back to Certapro’s failure on this job. What the respondent failed to note is there are other significant issues beyond the siding issues (as they relate to paint on existing boards). I have overpaint on windows, fences, fixtures, my deck, etcas well as dented shutters and windows (someone took a power sander to the vinyl window frame to remove excess paint), poorly hung siding, holes in my garage inner wall, a blown outdoor outlet due to direct water damage from the power washing, etc. As to Certapro’s assertion that they have worked to fix the issues and make us happy, I still have blue painters tape marking a couple dozen issue spots that were never addressed after being noted on the first go around. Paint on our light fixtures, iron work, fences, deck, window covers, etc. These markers also note smears, runs, drips, and other issues that were outlined after our initial job communication. Our handy man estimates the cost of repairs on these items to be in excess of $7,500; almost 2x the initial contract amount Again, the contracts are specific about protecting non-paint areas A little excess in one or two spots may be expected by several dozen spots is excessive. Certapro is correct, we have not paid them. We have not done so as payment is not required until the contract is fulfilled and we have a successful ‘pride walk.’ Obviously, we hold the contract is not fulfilled and Certapro has declined to perform any additional work to complete the contract. They have also declined to honor they written two year warranty We are more than will to pay for the job we contracted for, Certapro is unwilling to perform Certapro is not correct in that we are out of pocket for an electrician to fix the outlet that was not protected during pressure washing (Certapro said they would pay for this as they agreed they caused the damage.) We are also out many 10s of hours and have been unable to refinance our home on account of the derelict paint job. We have been working with Certapro’s insurance company, since August. Twice the claim has been rejected based on information provided by Certapro regarding their capacity on the job (no one is disputing there is extensive damage). They have tried to tell the insurance company they did not perform any work on my home. That is not true, they had an employee overseeing the second contact, and performing the installation of the siding. Again, more mis-information from Certapro that is refuted by their own written admissions. We did retain counsel after being told by Certapro that they were unilaterally canceling the contract. We did so, not to initiate or threaten litigation, but to help us understand and maintain our rights as consumers as we were being told by experts that the actions of Certapro have caused significant damage to the value of our home ($30,000+). That counselor’s activities were explicitly tied to the contract activities, or lack thereof.I too have evidence. It took the insurance adjuster over two hours to view the job on my 50’x40’ single level home and he didn’t take the time to document all of the poor workmanship, just made note that the issues were ‘pervasive.’ I have the written opinions of painting and siding contractors as well as my insurance and real estate agents, attesting to the damage done by poor workmanship. In the end, Certapro contracted for a job, twice, and failed and refused to meet even the most basic duties under those contracts. Certapro failed to adequately assess the job, twice, failed to adequately manage their crew, twice, and has lied to their insurance company, twice. They have caused both a functional and aesthetic impairment to my home that is estimated in excess of $30,000. Certapro moved as quickly as possible to bid the job, ‘finish’ the job, and move on- leaving us to deal with the damage- and their only solution has been to act like 1.) It never happened, or 2.) They shouldn’t be held responsible.
Sincerely,

Thank you for forwarding this complaint. In the spring of this customer contacted us and requested a full exterior residential repaint at the address listed. This customer was a first time home buyer and had never hired a professional contractor before to perform work. The
house was in desperate need of exterior repairs and it was our opinion that repainting should have occurred many years earlier. There was rotted siding and wood trim with peeling paint everywhere. (We have pre AND after painting photographs showing these areas of the home that were in very poor condition.) During the quoting process a conversation was had about saving the money on paint and putting it towards installing new siding on the home with a siding contractor (not CertaPro). The homeowner elected to paint instead and entered into contract with us (CertaPro). After painting was completed the customer was not happy with the results. We tried touchithe areas of concern and even replaced a small area of rotted siding wood that was not part of the original scope of work. None of our efforts to please this client had any effect on the customer and he continued to escalate his one and dissatisfaction by hiring an attorney to create a threatening letter. He later admitted the letter was created to motivate us into further action and expense not related to the contractNO CHARGES HAVE EVER BEEN PAID BY THIS CUSTOMER AND WE HAVE TRIED TO MAKE THINGS RIGHT. CERTAPRO HAS NOT COLLECTED ANY MONEY FOR OUR SERVICES AND HAS OFFERED TO LET THE CLIENT SAVE THIS MONEY OWED AND APPLY IT TO NEW SIDING. Towards the end of last summer, we turned this customer over to our insurance agency (The ***) and they are working with this individual to come to a resolution. All documentation, photos, material receipts, etchave been turned over to insurance. If anyone at the Revdex.com would like to see this bainformation, please let us know
