CertaPro Painters is a painting company. We were hired by this customer to remove the popcorn ceilings, paint the ceiling and walls in a bathroom. Our crew completed the painting and we were contacted by this customer stating the work did not meet his expectations. Kelly, Owner of CertaPro, went...

to the customer’s home the next day and noted there was additional prep work and painting needing to be done.  Kelly also acknowledged that the minor drywall repairs on the ceiling were failing. We scheduled to have a crew return to repaint the bathroom walls. At this time, Kelly informed the customer the issues with the failing repairs were due to excessive moisture in the ceiling. Kelly informed the customer the best course of action was to replace the ceiling by a professional drywall company. Once the ceiling was replaced, CertaPro would return and repaint the ceiling. We do minor drywall repair as part of the painting process – replacing an entire ceiling is not minor drywall repair. The failure of the ceiling repairs did fall under “Unforeseen Circumstances”. The customer indicated he was going to contact a home inspector he knew to get a second opinion. Shortly thereafter, the home inspector called and spoke with Kelly. The mutual conclusion was the ceiling had excessive moisture in it. The right thing to do was replace the ceiling. In recognition that this job did not go as smoothly as most, we offered this customer a $200 refund with a signed Mutual Release. The deadline for response was February 23, 2018. The customer did not respond. The last email correspondence we had with this customer was on February 20, 2018 in which he requested to review the Mutual Release. As with all our projects, if something is not going well, we are highly responsive to our customer’s needs, as we were with this customer. CertaPro offered an appropriate action to address the ceiling issues and to return to repaint the new ceiling at no additional charge to the customer.
